Just installed a couple of these https://shop.neos.co.uk/

Not the best – obv – but send alerts to my phones (both iphone and android).
Work on the wifi, but into a plug for power.
can get waterproof cases on amazon
Seems to work well at night as well.

    And dead cheap

store 14 days of ‘alerted’ 12 second scans on line for free. I’ve put an SD card in as well, so if things do really happen, I also have a better record.

My brother just put in a Ring camera that came with 2 floodlights. £190, and that’s a reduced price. There doesn’t appear to be much difference…

    Android updates

But that’s why you move to ChromeOS. I get updates most weeks on Chrome. And it’ll be updated for at least 5 years https://www.computerworld.com/article/2897690/chrome-os-upgrades.html

    put android apps on it.

Google are really stopping tablets, and moving everything to chromeos

    we’ve stayed here – https://www.woodyhyde.co.uk/ – just outside corfe.

Very pleasant. Only slight downside is getting to the pub, but you can walk over the common. Small section walking next to the road

i have a viking (the MB545), and it’s been very good for the 4 odd years I’ve had it. Never missed a beat. I think though the 5 year warranty only applies if you get it serviced…otherwise it’s just two. Could be wrong.

    it’s a hardtail. And a hardfront.

    but very good!

i pop up for work once in a while, and also have in-laws nearby.

it’s not an ideal location. Cheap houses, yes, but a reason for that.

Flat as a pancake + straight roads + no real jobs = loads of boy racers crashing in a massive fireball.

If you can find it anywhere, try and watch this https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b00r3qyw – basically unemployed locals offered a chance for a job, then refusing when they realised it would be manual labour in a field. Bearing in mind those jobs are filled by Eastern Europeans, and it’s a staunchly Brexit area.

Edit – hopefully this is it https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bqo-7rtGwOU

it’s not a beaked whale – it doesn’t have the skull shape to hold the size of melon needed for decent echolocation (which beaked whales need, being deep water species)

i went from streatley to compton today and around other local bridleways – not a problem at all. A few puddles, but nothing sucky.

oooh get to use my degree for once, but too late!

yeah – definitely a baleen whale of some description. Upper jaw and skull. Compare and contrast https://www.alamy.com/stock-photo/whale-head-bone.html

probably a minke, but of course be a juvenile any other species

Definitely not a sperm whale, or any toothed whale/dolphin.

Found out the recommended Australian removal ideas last week (they have a type of tick that causes anaphylactic shock, so need to get it off quickly)

Basically freeze it with wart spray. Kills it instantly. The other method is smear it in Scabies cream – again, kill it instantly.

    Interesting idea! https://ticksafe.com.au/tick-bite-first-aid/

    something like this https://www.amazon.co.uk/MG-Chemicals-403C-235G-Super-HFO-1234ZE/dp/B07CCHPC1R

surely the soak away will be compromised.

A tree root is normally the culprit. Had to do it a few years back; find where the soak away is (easier said than done, but you can often work it out by digging where the down pipe enters the ground, find the angle the underground horizontal pipe takes, then follow that 5-10m). Dig down 1 ft or so, and you’ll find gravel/rocks etc/ That’s the soakaway. You’ll find the end of the underground pipe, and there’ll probably be a root growing up it. Cut it up, pull it out. Build a better soak away, cover it up etc. Then put hedgehog in the gutters .

It’s messy and hard. So you can pay someone instead

never used harry’s (obv i follow the STW massive in using a old fashioned safety razor – much nicer)

but, i do have a cartridge razor for weekends away with only hand luggage. It’s one of these https://www.boldking.com/uk/products/the-kit . Nowhere near as nice as a safety razor though

On the old school MTB front, funnily enough I bought this https://www.chainreactioncycles.com/marin-pine-mountain-27-5-hardtail-bike-2019/rp-prod186798 on Friday. Nicely cheap

Load of fixing points, decent steel frame, nothing to go wrong.

Oh the beer in Malmo was very pleasant. IPAs, APAs, Weisse, Mini Weisse etc. Lovely hot day, so all went down well.

was just pleasantly surprised. I’m used to needing a second mortgage to get a round in anywhere in Sweden.

    Stop whining

Funnily enough I was in Copenhagen and Malmo last week. I found Malmo a lot cheaper – went to the Street Food Market, but the interesting thing was all the beer there was under 3.5% .A flat 40 SEK (£3.30) for draught. But then saw a cafe with stronger beers, and they were heading to the 60-70 SEK.

In Copenhagen even the weakest Euro pish was about 50 DKK (£6) a pint (a “special offer” at Tivoli for the football was 300 DKK for 6 – including 5 DKK recycling on each ‘glass’). So that’s still £6 each. For carlsberg.

Went to Mikeller – and excellent though it was, it was pushing 90 DKK a large can – over a tenner.

I’ve heard say the best solution is chilli flakes. Buy a kilo, spread around where they go, wait a day.

Because they’re tidy animals, they lick paws etc where chilli has rubbed.

They’ll also go to the same spot all the time, so you need to get rid of the smell there. Diluted vinegar/ammonia will get rid of the scent. Tidying it up all the time will help – removes the scent.

Obviously none are ‘permanent’ but it should cut it down

West Berks/Renegade do a few at the moment

Dead Men Brew No Ales – black IPA. 5.4% – lovely!
Smoke on the Porter – uh, porter. 6%
Stay Grounded – Imp Stout – 10%. Very nice, but quite strong.

and a superb DIPA called Snake Oil (7.5%). Not that dark, but I love it.

it’s been a little dire recently
I have an Ambit 3. Unfortunately they’re not supporting it really. I migrate back and forth between SA and Movescount, depending on what I’m doing. But it is rubbish. It’s put me off moving up to a more modern Suunto.

Don’t know if you read this https://www.dcrainmaker.com/2019/01/suunto-announces-decommission-plans-for-movescount-platform-impacting-some-watches.html but it’s helped convince me that it’s not really worth sticking with Suunto

Just waiting till wahoo bring something out, or i may just get a Coros.

    not just Vodafone

Ah! Really? Okay – it was trumpeted at the time (last year) by Vodafone. Obviously getting in with good PR before the rule change. Shows how much I’ve needed it in that time though

    I wouldn’t touch Vodafone with a barge-pole personally

as a counterpoint to this, we’ve been with vodafone for three years (?) now; whenever they started broadband basically
never had an issue with it (or them). Got them to contact Openreach on our behalf recently (over drop outs on the line). All very smooth considering both companies’ reputations.
they also give you money back if you don’t reach the speed they think you should get. https://blog.vodafone.co.uk/2018/02/28/broadband-ultimate-speed-guarantee/

    this is in our deeds

TO HOLD the same unto Purchaser in fee simple Subject to any rights of way or other easements or quasi-easements affecting the strip of land on the North eastern or Eastern boundary of land thereby conveyed then used as access to the rear of the adjoining properties

and this is one of the neighbours

Notice entered in pursuance of rule 254 of the Land Registration Rules,1925 on 27 March 1984 that the registered proprietor claims that the land in this title has the benefit of a right of way over the land tinted brown on the filed plan

See – absolutely nothing about stopping or parking. It is just ‘passing’. If yours is similar, you shouldn’t park there. He may have been flexible in the past, and has now just got annoyed, or you’ve annoyed him, or something else. But he’s doing nothing illegal, unfortunately.

we have a private road (track really). Five other houses are allowed to pass at all times; they are not allowed to park (or indeed even stop) on it. It’s private. All they’re allowed to do is pass.

So by parking you’re [probably] breaking the terms of your easement. Cannot say without looking at the deeds. You can come to an agreement….
