We were across in April and did Dalbeattie, Mabie and Drumlanrig.

For me it was a very close call between Dalbeattie and Drumlanrig as to which I preferred. Drumlanrig reminded me of many of our local trails and I thought it was superb.

But the bottom line was we had 3 days of simply fantastic riding, weather and craic!

Similarly, Ive bought stuff from Ground Effect in New Zealand and its been here within a couple of days. Sometimes faster than stuff Ive ordered locally! Go figure…

Im 6' and ride a large Blur Classic

Its perfect for me, although I often wonder when I see so many pics on this site with really high seatposts if I should be riding a smaller size!

    SLX

    WD40

I dont really get the seatpost thing though. Shirley a post is a post. Is it to do with weight?

The rear Superleggera just never ever missed a beat. Always engaged instantly and rolled ultra smoothly.

My Superleggera hub was seriously impressive for 6 months then the freehub failed suddenly. A new freehub was fitted but then the hub itself failed after 15 miles! :-(. So I swapped it for Hope.

My front Superfast hub is absolutely, totally and amazingly fantastic. It is as smooth as a smooth thing and just keeps rolling.

CLUBBER – You are about the same as me weight wise so Im going to try your settings. 110 +ve and -ve?

And what way have you the rebound set? Tortoise or Hare?

    Thanks

My Ignitors are amazing. Without a doubt they have improved my ( poor by anyones standard) riding.

Got a pair last month and used them in Scotland at Mabie, Dalbeattie and Drumlanrig as well as local trails here at home, and they grip and perform flawlessly. Really fast and really grippy – I can corner better than ever. And they are fine on the tarmac to the trails too!

Im an occasional STW reader and have just finished reading this months issue.

Must say its the best Ive read and I was seriously impressed. I believe I finally have begun to appreciate the quality of the mag and understand the whole STW ethos.

    Well done to all concerned!

She really does suit it…and Im not by any means a tattoo aficionado.

But I think you are more excited about it than you should be…..

Every Allied soldier mistook every German tank for a Tiger which I suppose reflected its fearsome reputation. It was a great tank – but plagued with problems and very expensive to produce. Hindsight suggests Germany should have stuck to a basic tank or two rather than waste valuable resources on technically superior but ultimately flawed machines. Panther was superb though…..

Thanks 13thfloormonk. I should have added that I never get anymore than around 80mm travel ( Forks came from Merlin originally on a Malt2 but are now on a SC Blur Classic)

Also the fork originally had the Poplock but I broke the bar mounted lever in a tumble so removed the entire mechanism. I have the little gold knob turned all the way +ve. Is that correct?

    Thanks again

Yes you could have done serious damage and not be aware of it. So from personal experience dont mess about and go to hospital. A few hours in casualty is probably better than life in a wheelchair.

Well I took apart the freehub and found one pair ( there are two pairs) of pawls had become unseated. They are held in place by a thin wire ring and had somehow moved out of their recess and onto the freehub body but still had the wire ring gripping them.

They were a wee bit dirty so a good clean and lube was required and the hub is now running smooth as a smooth thing again. It will get a good run out on Thursday so Im hoping that it will be fine!

    Pretty easy to dis-assemble too!

Ive been using a Superleggera and a Superfast for about 6 months. They are used in generally wet, very wet and muddy XC conditions and I have been very pleased with them. They spin very smoothly and until last weekend they performed faultlessly. But now the freehub wont engage immediately and it can take up to half a revolution for it to engage.

Im leaving the bike into RC tomorrow to have the hubs built onto DT 5.1s and they will have a look at the freehub. Hopefully it just needs a bit of TLC!

Im generally a standard 9 but I had to go for 9.5 in the FiveTens – they were just a tad tight in the 9

    Brilliant piece of footwear!

Most of the land in NI is owned by the government whose agents do not officially sanction access to bikes. Hence all the forests, hills, mountains etc, despite the cracker natural trails, are generally ridden illegally. And they do remove/destroy trails from time to time.

The rest of the land is owned privately and very few landowners allow access. Quite a few do turn a blind eye but every now and then get upset for various reasons, and remove the trails/features.

Most bikers in NI hope todays event might encourage/shame our own FS into taking positive steps. But we arent holding our breath, and meanwhile we will continue to make frequent trips to Scotland and enjoy the benefits!

I just despair at the irony of our own FS supporting an event that encourages activities, beneficial to the entire community, in another FS domain!

    NIMBY or what! :-)

Thats very true Northwind and lots of us do that trip every week! But we would like a decent centre of our own – rather than spending a lot of time riding illegally, avoiding sabotaged trails and watching hard work and effort being bulldozed with scary enthusiasm! Not to mention spending a small fortune with Stenna and all the local pubs and eateries in Scotland!

We are really despondent over here….each and every attempt to gain recognition for the sport is ignored and rejected with tedious regularity.

Todays event was to promote the facilities available to riders in Scotland and encourage them to visit.

The irony is that the NI FS consistently fail to acknowledge or facilitate the local MTB community and we had the Scottish FS in Belfast to entice even more of us to visit! And apparently it was also supported by the NI FS!

It was a great event – well organised, entertaining and informative.

Attendance might have been a bit iffy but that didnt reflect the true passion for MTB in NI.
