I had a couple of leg massages last year when I was training for a 100mile ride. The guy doing it recommended using ice after a ride and it does seem to work. Just leave a plastic beaker of water in the freezer and when you get a post-ride shower flip over the block of ice and use the beaker as a holder for the ice, apply the ice to your legs for around 5 minutes.

Same thing applies – no tax difference.

Not sure it is ATP, Salary Sacrifice is all about NI savings. I currently contribute 6% to the pension plan which attracts NI but obviously not income tax. By taking a 6% ‘cut’ in salary and getting the company to put that 6% in the pension plan means no difference to my tax but saves me a little on NI and the company a bit more on NI.

Yeah, sorry I was specifically referring to the Salary Sacrifice scheme not bog standard pension contributions.

allthepies – tax is paid after pension contributions have been take out so that makes no difference to the 40% tax rate. You pay 2% NI over £42,475 so the amount you would be saving without a contribution from the employer would be naff all.

The fundamental problem to all these project issues is that not enough people actually understand how computers work.

All sorted now. Other insurance company is settling our claim for repairs ‘without prejudice’. Solicitor looking after the whiplash claim.

Got a witness statement for my insurer but the other insurer was playing silly beggars by saying it needed to be filled in on an esure form.

On a positive note my insurer, Quinn direct, have been brilliant. They assigned me to a regional claims director and gave me her mobile number, and I’ve been talking to her and her alone about the accident and the claim process. Excellent service.

Having to sit with my foot on the brake at traffic lights.

My merc auto has a neat feature. Just press the brake pedal a bit firmer as the car stops and it applies the parking brake. Leave in D and when the lights change press the accelerator to move off – simples.

Most of the time auto is fine but I did nearly bin it on the snow last winter on a slight downhill country road. I realised that if I touched the brake I would be in the hedge so I used the tiptronic to change down from 4 to 2 which still involved a fair bit of fish tailing but I managed to save it. Without tip I would have been in trouble.

enfit – there is a well known answer from the left. Fair tax, go after tax avoiders seriously, tax non doms. Stimulate the economy and growth will do it over time.

Thing is companies such as news international and tesco pay next to no tax. if they paid their fair share then the issues would be far less

Just for the record TJ in 2010 Tesco paid £840m in tax on profits of £3,176m, hardly “next to no tax”. Sure, they get away with few dodgy off-shore tricks, but not on the scale you suggest.

Given all the bitching that has taken place on this forum about bankers I’m surprised this thread died so quickly. There again, people wouldn’t have as much to moan about

I stayed at the Hilton Metropole by Edgware Road tube station last night and they have a Maclaren F1 in the lobby which you can get real close up to. It’s a number 22 so the one after they got banned and demoted to last place. I spent about 15 minutes gawping at it and was amazed at the aeordynamics design which TV doesn’t do justice to. Worth a look if you are in the area.

Why should schools have to teach kids to ride a bike safely? It’s the parents responsibility to do this not the state.

Agreed, the land we want has part of an old steel barn on it which will have to come down at some point in the future so we’re not looking to use the land straight away.

It’s quite a big piece of land overall and I’m looking to buy a small slice on the perimeter.

Funnily enough £3,000 was the figure I had in mind. The extension would bring our boundary in line with next door who are in a different street but the farm has been granted planning permission to redevelop some barns although there are no signs of redevelopment given the current economic situation. I guess it all depends on the cashflow situation the farmer is in.

Change of use should be OK as we’re not planning to build on the extra land.

I wonder if some cases are caused by years of using mobile phones. Not much is known about the long term effects yet.

Had mine about a year now. Seems to get worse when the stress levels start to rise. Doc said I could get some therapy to help me filter it out but haven’t got around to it. Anyone tried the therapy?

My wife has a Freelander 1, does everything we need:
    day-to-day commuting
    easy to park
    pulling box and 2 horses

Better check the weight of the box and 2 horses. probably over the towing limit which isn’t a good idea.

Looking at late September or early October. Mrs would like some decent horse riding as well.

I often wonder if some cup draws are fixed

They (allegedly) used to fix the Rugby League cup and Scottish Cup draws. By soaking the relevant balls e.g. Celtic and Rangers in hot water before the draw meant the committee could make the teams were not drawn against each other when they put their hand in the bag to draw out the balls.

T-boned a sheep earlier this year. Doing about 25mph down a grassy double track and it shot out from behind a gorse bush straight across my path. Sailed over the bars and I landed on my back but no damage done to me or the bike and the sheep just ran off.

He seems to have made provisions for being nobbled by putting out a 1.25GB file encrypted with a 256 bit encryption key which is impossible to break. If anything happens to him the code will be released by someone very close to him and we get to see the contents of the encrypted file. Of course it could be a big bluff.

It’s not very trendy but the Casio Exilim FH-100 is a blinding camera for MBing.

Part of Casio’s Exilim High Speed digital camera group, the pocket-sized EX-FC100 can shoot bursts at 30 frames per second or capture video clips at 1000, 420 and 210 frames-per-second. The resolution is low at those high frame rates but the super slow-mo video is soooo cool. Use the slow motion clips to analyze cornering and jumping technique or get awesome videos of your friends carcassing. To keep you from missing the shot, the EX-FC100 starts shooting before you even press the button. Pre-focus and keep your finger on the shutter release and as soon as you pull the trigger the camera saves the previous 25 frames, ensuring you get the shot. If you’re not convinced yet, Haro pro Eric Porter and Litter Mag / Vital MTB photog and videographer Shawn Spomer both own this pocket-sized speed demon.

I’ve started using the ‘Days Until’ widget on my Google homepage for the usual stuff like insurance, MOT, Birthdays. etc. You can see at a glance what’s coming up next and it will automatically put the task to the bottom of the list when it reaches the due date.

It doesn’t sync with anything but I use the PC nearly everyday so I know what’s coming up.

Also worth pointing out that mobile phone companies are required by law to keep all mobile phone conversation for 2 years, anti terrorism and criminal activity

They only have to keep details of the call e.g. date, time, duration, number dialled. But not the actual conversation.

    Another oldie

German U-boat Captain: I am making notes, Captain, and your name will go on the list; and when we win the war you will be brought to account.
Captain Mainwaring: You can write what you like, You’re not going to win the war!
U-boat Captain: Oh yes we are.
    Mainwaring: Oh no you’re not.
U-boat Captain: Oh yes we are!
Pvt. Pike: [Singing] Whistle while you work, Hitler is a twerp, he’s half-barmy, so’s his army, whistle while you work!
U-boat Captain: Your name will also go on the list! What is it?
    Mainwaring: Don’t tell him Pike!
    U-boat Captain: Pike!

Only ‘impossible’ because of the mental weakness that made people believe it couldn’t be done. Plus there was a major setback to athletics caused by WW2 so the record had been around for a while. Still a good achievement but IMHO not deserving of legend status.

If a non-Brit had broken that record how many people on here would know who they were?

I like Bannister but always thought breaking the 4 minute mile was an overrated achievement. Who remembers the first person to run under 10secs for the 100m or 20secs for the 200m, or 13 minutes for the 5k etc etc. These types of records are no more important than any world record.

Baking in the oven works well. As mentioned above you just need to heat them up so keeping the oven/grill door closed helps with the smell.

Serve with brown toast, proper butter and fresh coffee.

Just started using this[/url] and found it very good.

Interfaces really well with Outlook but unfortunately has no sync with iPhone.

You can download the trial version which runs for 30 days then purchase if you like it.
