4.5m , measured from the top of the stove is what AD J recommends, which I’m sure is what the council would look for, if you were to get them involved

The FILO used to have roast tattles on the bar & a great meat raffle, plus a great beer festival every year. Lovely people, used to let you fill your glass from the barrel & rely on your honesty for what you drank. Don’t remember anybody abusing the system. Spent many a hazy happy weekend in Hastings. Nice bohemian atmos, but def some dodgy bits.

Got a prepaid card for my mum, who is suffering form early stage dementia & is very susceptible to being ripped off by scumbag companies who phone her up etc. She has a weekly limit, which enables her to go shopping & I can monitor activity online. Max limit means if she did inadvertently give her PIN to someone, she wouldn’t lose much, can’t go overdrawn & can’t set up direct debits etc, which alarmingly, unscrupulous companies have managed to arrange in the past. Don’t you just love growing old!
Prepaid would obviously work well for kids too!

A drink made up of water, sugar, salt & lemon juice & don’t eat anything, except maybe a little plain rice or dry toast. Works everytime when I get the squits.

Somewhat over budget, but long term this has got to be the answer to an unusable conservatory:

If I remember correctly, you could buy the photos from the same emporium that you got your badges, patches & t shirts from. There used to be a great one near west Croydon station. I used to go up there every weekend. Happy days!

Is your mum suffering from dementia? One of the symptoms of this is hallucinations & also paranoia – my mum, bless her, who has been diagnosed as suffering from the onset of this, has “witnessed” someone falling off the roof of her house & landing in the front hedge & regularly “seen” a white rat on her pillow. She can seem totally lucid the majority of the time, but then tell me that she got rid of the clock in the living room because she got the feeling it was watching her. No, I don’t believe in ghosts, by the way.

My great great grandad, Willie Blair, used to play the fiddle for Queen Victoria when she stayed at Balmoral.
I was taught structural engineering at Nescot by Dr Vine, Tim & Jeremy’s dad.
Just remembered. I went to a BBQ hosted by Roger Daltrey at his trout farm. He is very short.

If your carpet is 100mm thick, no. Otherwise yes.

Yes warm air rises but thermal imaging has proven significant heat loss through floors, more so in a suspended floor that’s not insulated – if you have air leakage you have heat loss

If you’re leaving the boards in place, the Celotex will friction fit between the joists, assuming you’ve got room to manoeuvre (good luck), as long as you are accurate in cutting the sheets down. If you’re lifting the boards & installing from above, likewise, but you can also pin battens into the joist sides or even just nails to support the sheets, if they are not a good friction fit (which they should really be to get the full benefit).

Definitely worth doing if you’ve got the floor up anyway. Use Celotex ( foil faced rigid foam) – 100mm of this is approx equivalent to 200mm f/glass. Make sure the void below the insulation is well ventilated via air bricks.

I would echo what b r has suggested. Aside from the b regs completion certificate, the hold up on the new build could also be due to waiting on discharge of planning conditions, sign off from the warranty provider etc. Not your problem to sort. Dig your heels in & insist on a date.

That looks like a mahoosive silicon bead. By eye 10mm+? I would say the window frame is too small for the opening. Worth flagging up to NHBC, but good luck with that…

Almost every day in my job, I have to deal with many sad, paranoid, & sometimes deranged individuals, who seem to have nothing better to do than occupy some sort of self- perceived moral high ground, criticising the lives of others & calling for the intervention of the law/ council/ or whatever other agency. I frequently have the overwhelming desire to suggest they “GET A F$*%G LIFE”, however if I did this I would lose my job. On this forum however, I feel this sentiment is entirely appropriate. Don’t get me started on irresponsible tree owners, dropping their evil seed in my garden, dripping sap on to my windscreen ………

I used cigarette ends when I went to see Ted Nugent at Hammersmith Odeon, as there were rumours that people were emerging from his gigs with blood running from their ears. The sound was actually spot on.
I spent years riding motorbikes with no earplugs & it’s only in recent years that it has become the norm to wear them.

All I’ve got is the punchline I’m afraid as I can’t remember the damn joke, so if any one knows the rest of the joke to this – “with fronds like these, who needs anenomes”, please post it ‘cos it’s been bugging me for years.

When you go to the doc ask him to take a blood test for uric acid levels- you may be experiencing a mild gout attack. I suffer from gout – usually in the big toe, but I find my knuckles/ hands feel arthritic before a full on gout attack & this manifests itself as a sharp pain in the knuckles/thumbs, which makes gripping stuff a right pain in the proverbial. I find beer is the biggest culprit, unless it’s German beer brewed under their purity laws.

+1 for Richard Thompson preferably just him & his acoustic guitar, just mind-blowing.
Also, have been very pleasantly surprised by The Proclaimers & Slade

You say the building control is being carried out by a private firm – known as an “approved inspector”. The AI has, to a certain extent, exactly the same responsibilities & obligations that the council would have, although they have no enforcement powers. The contact details of the AI will be lodged with the council building control dept – find out who they are & explain the situation to the AI. You may be surprised to learn that the AI has never visited the site (this seems to be quite common), however they do have an obligation to administer the building regs & should react swiftly to dodgy structural works. Unfortunately, the council are powerless as the work is under the AI’s jurisdiction, but they do have powers if the works have resulted in the building becoming a dangerous structure.

Depends what you want to use it for. I got one of these recently for the T4 & it’s brilliant for storing all your stuff & really easy to put up & attach.

I’d be more worried about a dodgy boiler installation. Get that sorted 1st & then the woodburner. Seriously.
