I find doing everything slowly helps, as soon as you start rushing you end up getting in a hot sweat.

I’m not a sweaty type but some days after a ride to work and a shower I can feel myself starting to burn up. Go slow, slow down and the heat goes away. I haven’t reached the ‘drenched’ stage yet though.

Depends where you live and what the housing market is like there. I don’t see many houses priced at ‘offers over’ at the moment. Also depends how desperate you are to sell.

Bought a brand new Giant TCR which had an ultegra groupset for £650

Now that is a good deal.

Just built up a bike with all brand new parts consisting of Ribble carbon frameset, full ultegra groupset and ultegra tubeless wheels.

Where did you get the full ultegra groupset and wheels from that left you enough change from £900 for a frame and all the finishing kit required. Bearing in mind a ribble frame is around £300.

To the OP, buy both, swap all the kit from the boardman onto the scott frame. Not sure of the spec of the boardman but you may need a compatible chainset and seatpost

The Vittoria Open Corsa are very nice – I rode the Maratona with them and they were very fast and trippy. However, I’ve found them ‘interesting’ in wet conditions and sketchy in cold, damp weather.

    Far out dude.

But yes I agree they’re not the best in the wet but once you know their limits they’re okay.

I use vittoria open corsa cx with Michelin latex tubes on my Sunday best bike, lovely set up.

yeh I’d add that to the list. Any of the 3 are easy from the m74.

I would go via Mabie or Dalbeattie on the way up if possible. Cathkin is good but not a huge amount to it. Carron would be a pain in the arse to get to in rush hour.

Oh and if the weather is alright you could still be riding till about 10:30 without lights.

Could you not just have spoken to them and asked them to pick their litter up?

My garmin 500 has been doing this for about 6 months, tried various solutions and none have worked. I just do manual uploads now.

I got a wiggins fred perry, one from the new collection. Already got one which I love and this one is great too. Went out for an hour on the road bike and collected the car from the restaurant we were at last night, its nice to not do an out and back route.

BBQ, fizz and beers this afternoon and relaxing in the sun now.

I love my family, they’re great.

As above. Hot griddle style pan, steak left at room temp for at least an hour, rub in some oil then season, fry for around 2 minutes each side, rest for 5 minutes, delicious medium rare steak.

When you say ‘Ill’ do you mean you had a cold? That’s not ill, ill is someone needing some serious treatment so may I be the first to say WTFU.

2 people are down £30 and another £15, hardly shitting on anyone.

So are you saying its fine to steal as long as the amounts are ‘small’? No harm done eh.

I know if I’m ever heard up who I’ll be trying to sell some non-existent tat to.

pebblebeach – for me it’s more about facing up to the reality of the situation. Would you waste your own time trying (probably unsuccessfully) to get the money back, or just write it off now?

I’d be paying them a visit.

Seems to be a lot of forgiveness on this thread for what is basically theft. Okay he had an excuse but so do most thieves, whether that’s drug addiction or whatever.

Remember that the next time someone posts on here asking people to look out for their stolen bike, the bike that’s been stolen by someone with a ‘good excuse’ to do so. That should make a change from the usual ‘hanging’s too good for ’em’ posts.

Looks like its all hearts and flowers for the guy because he was ‘one of our own’.

I’m all for this, I like to wave to roadies all the time. I passed a big bunch stopped at the side of the road last night, gave them all a cheery wave as I went past and shouted ‘Off road’s more fun’ – barely a smile from any of the miserable sods, there’s just no pleasing some people.

You didn’t did you, seriously? Are you 10 years old?

I don’t see why its an issue, its all bikes. Most people don’t ride up mountains that often on road or ‘mountain’ bikes.

I’ve been using mavic kyserium sl premiums for the last few years and they’ve been faultless. Light, stiff, reliable and under your budget.

rob-jackson for someone who knows nothing about road wheels you’ve posted quite a few times on this thread.

It’s pretty **** to mess up Strava, given 99% of people using Strava are just having fun.

Well if people are just doing it for fun what difference does depo make?

    pebblebeach

It’s a site created by people who spend more time at a pc than riding. Hence they are not as fast as they thought they were so then created the programme to rubbish it.

I use strave, I rode 240 miles last week, which is an average week.

My odd sighting of the day was a guy a passed on my commute on the bike. Even at 7am it was a wind free 16 degrees, caught up with a guy wearing heavy cycling jacket, longs, winter boots and full finger gloves. Now that was a bit odd, but the balaclava was even odder. wtf, he’s going to be sweating like a fat kid in a cake shop if he’s riding home tonight.

Then, coming off a slip road, she somehow managed to shift from 4th into reverse – the whole engine rotated 90 degrees and fell out of the bottom of the car, and that was the end of that.

mmm wonder how the engine managed to squeeze its way past the chassis crossmembers.

I can understand if you had said ‘and the gearbox ‘unwound’.

We only race you because you’ve been working hard for years and it’s more fun to trounce you on the hills in the baggies than anything in the world

In your dreams, 20 mile each way commute keeps my pace pretty quick. Haven’t been passed this year. Guy tried the other day after I passed him, sat on my wheel, launched an ‘attack’, went backwards as soon as he came out of my slipstream. Adios loser 🙂

Yep it’s a fantastic way to start the day. You can always tell who’s new to the bike commuting game as they always want to race everyone.

I have a charleston model which is a ‘special edition’ it’s not that different from a normal version and you won’t pay that much more for one.

I’d disagree with the bulletproof engine/gearbox comment though.

I’ve owned 2cv’s consistently since 1987, current one I’ve had since 1989. Its not my everyday car although it was for around 9 years. Great, fun car but a million miles away from a modern car.

A guy I know had one & always talked about the bad chassis, when they are gone the whole car is shot.

Depends what you mean by ‘shot’. First off if you’re paying £5k for one then you’ll be getting a very good car and it will either have an original mint condition, rust proofed chassis or the chassis will have been replaced with a galvanized one. If you do buy one with a rusty chassis there are lots of specialists replacing them.

EDIT: Yes, the windows. NOthing like driving along on a stiniking hot day, elbow out the window, having it nearly shattered as the window slams into it.

Never had this happen to me, but thats beaten by driving with the roof open.

Am I odd in that I like the look of grubby white bar-tape? Shows that the bike gets ridden.

Personally I think grubby white tape looks horrible but I don’t need to show that my bike gets ridden

Not something I worry about and I’m riding 250 miles a week at the moment at a fair pace. But I’m 68kg and have good blood pressure figures.

Still it can happen to anyone at anytime so I don’t think I’m invincible.

Here’s one to think about – 46 year old friend of mine, reasonably fit, went for a run a few weeks ago, he’s run several marathons, dropped dead of a heart attack.

No amount of cleaning will stop white bar tape looking like gray bar tape after a few rides.

Well I don’t usually think that way as I ALWAYS have a headwind home but I can confirm that the wind is still blowing from the east.

Windy in Glasgow, expected an almost wind free commute this morning, not so as I had a pretty strong headwind. Tailwind home though.

And what size for a 5’8″ normally proportion short arse? I’m usually a 54cm in road bikes, any reason to go up/down a size on this frame?
