I remember one of my mrs’ friends got a new bloke, apparently he described himself as a professional gambler. What this actually meant was that he spent his dole money down the bookies. online casino now I come to think about it.

Never claimed the dole and never will.

There’s only one way to gain a % advantage and no casino I worked in would let you play long enough to set yourself up for life.

Um I didn’t say I made it all in the one sitting or in the same casino. In terms of ‘professional’ I meant that was how I earned a living, I didn’t have any professional qualifications and I didn’t wear flamboyant clothing.

Oh and this wasn’t in some shit hole casino in some shit hole town in the UK.

the AA arrived in 25 mins, but that’s £200 gone

You must have a huge fuel tank.

I used to spend a lot of time in casino’s and I guess I was what you would call a ‘professional gambler’. My winnings set me up for life, but I had the sense to walk away.

Yes I did but it was 10 years ago and things have changed a lot. Lender did ask for proof every 6 months that my mum was still living there.

She died last year and if I sell the property I get hit with a capital gains tax bill which is a bit of a pain in the arse to be honest as I didn’t buy it to make a profit and in business terms made a loss over the period (if I was comparing this to buying a property and charging for rent). Not that the tax office will take that into consideration.

If you don’t think there’s a benefit to having one then don’t buy one. They’re good if you want to train in specific zones or are interested in the numbers from a ride.

The residents are, understandably, getting a little sick of hundreds of cyclists riding down the lane every weekend

    Is it a private lane?

Well chuffed with my Vulpine tops. No more expensive than a Pearl Izumi jersey I bought a couple of years ago which stinks before I’ve even put it on. And I’m a girl

Spray some white vinegar on the top, leave for at least 30 minutes before washing in halo detergent – smell will be gone.

Do Passione couture have anything for sale?

I think the difference are style based – some look more like a copy of a rapha yersey than others.

I have a long sleeve torm jersey, its alright, mini pump wore a hole in the centre pocket after a few months use which hasn’t happened with other quality brands.

It’s not the first jersey I reach for and I know rapha is twice the price but their jerseys really are very, very good.

Shutt vr again is alright, nothing special, just alright.

Have a look at donkey label yerseys.

I bet most peoples houses have had loads of folk die in them
Especially if the house is over, say, 30 years old.

Over 30 years old, so built say 1980. I wouldn’t expect loads of people to have died in a house of that age unless the owners name is West.

Our last house was built 1890 so I’m sure a few people died in that and a few were born. It isn’t something that would bother me or I find macabre.

dont bother scarifying your lawn now – wait till autumn

I thought I would do it now to give the grass a chance to grow over summer then again at the end of the growing season.

I don’t see the point in being niche and selling just £10k Pinarellos unless your shop is somewhere like Monte Carlo.

Ben’s shop is is in somewhere like Monte Carlo, well Bearsden/Milngavie 🙂

If your good lady is happy and you are happy what difference does it make

I don’t think she is, mainly because she couldn’t afford an Audi a1 but the sister could.

I feel for you, life can be really tough sometimes.

New ironing board or a set of pots n pans should keep her happy.

It would need to be large, have a wide range of good brands and lots of stock.

Use wheelbase as a example, its always been busy any time I’ve been.

I commute 20 miles each way pretty much every day in summer but down to 3 days on average in winter. I take it fairly easy most mornings but put in a fair shift on the ride home which is usually into a headwind. If its not too windy ill throw in some intervals over the moor. But I use traffic light starts for intervals too.

8000 miles! How come you get to ride so much?

I do around the same annual mileage and heading for slightly higher this year a 20 mile each way commute helps get that total up, which I do because I love and don’t have to do it at all. Also ride at weekends, up early and home before the family are up, in summer anyway. So for me 250 mile weeks are common.

When riding to work I have half a loaf when I arrive and half when I leave

How far do you ride? That’s a lot of extra calories.

Only issue I would have had last night with getting the jockey wheel into place was that the stub of the broken bolt was still threaded into the hole. It was easily removed with pliers but not sure I could have got out without.

20 miles each way commute daily, 2 minor incidents involving vehicles with no injuries, 3 falls on ice, one resulting in quite a lot of cuts and bruises.

Don’t know where that sites gets its numbers from but there are far more than 250 dyanes left in the uk. There’s always a few for sale in the club magazine every month.

Yeh that was my first thought kennyp when I read the moaning and self centred post. Imagine not being able to use your car, how dreadful for you.

Great course and a great afternoon walking round it. We managed to get a spot 50m from the finish and the whole event was fantastic.

Is cycling really so boring you have to listen to music too?

No, but its a good opportunity to catch up on music I’ve bought recently. And I don’t really get why you think you only listen to music because what you’re doing is boring. That makes no sense.

How quaint that people get home from work in time to watch soaps.

How quaint that someone as busy and important as you has time to post on a forum. 🙄

But seriously if you’re not home from work by 7:30 you have very poor time management skills or spend too much time gossiping instead of working efficiently.

This is like my eternal hunt for waterproof summer gloves. They simply don’t exist, and winter gloves are too warm.

My wife’s parents had a few and her sister had one too. Both really liked them net in winterised if possible so you can use it a year round. Only issue I can see is storage.

I do on my commute but only the bit on the cycle path, although that’s 12 miles of it. I don’t listen to music on the road bit of my commute or on road rides as it does make me feel a bit disconnected from what’s going on around me.

Listed to music off road too.

as above don’t think you’re going to keep your feet dry. I was wondering the other day about mini overshoes for road or mtb

    You mean toe covers.

    pebblebeach

If you’re riding in the rain for 16 hours then nothing will keep the rain out. You’re going to be soaked through everywhere else so your feet might as well be too.

If its warm, and its likely to be in the UK, then I wouldn’t wear overshoes.

Depending on what size you buy the ‘zip’ will close either side of the wire anyway but obviously not waterproof if not fully closed.

Dene is a great guy to deal with, fantastic customer service, as is Paul at DL.

sounds like it fits all of your criteria

Apart from the fact that it doesn’t have a clear window for viewing or using the phone. I used to use a plastic bag, the pack animal is about 1 trillion times better.

eh maybe not everyone commutes 10 miles in a pair of jeans, just a thought. Wouldn’t fancy wearing jeans on a wet ride.

I’ve been using the pack animal from Donkey Label and it definitely meets your requirements.

Maybe drop Dene at iL Soigneur[/url] an email to see if you can order one from him. He’s one very helpful guy so should be able to get you one as he brings DL stuff into the UK.

Simple Minds, hated them when I was a teenager and everyone else at school loved them. Like the OP I was into Discharge, Vice Squad, Crass, Blitz, etc.

Going to see Simple Minds in November!
