    You’d be everyones best friend!

Yes and most of them wouldn’t expect to be charged the market rate.

Being a remote landlord is a nightmare, I ended up in that situation a couple of years back, never again.

I’ve been doing it 20 years, never had an issue.

Personally, I would avoid Aberdeen, the property prices up there were inlfated by the high oil prices and it would appear they will only be going down in the long term.

Market is pretty buoyant at the moment but prices are pretty steady. But these particular properties are a great deal as they’re fully furnished ex serviced apartments.

But if your intention is to sell in 25 years and use the proceeds as your pension then that’s not what I would do with £200k. I’d be sticking some in stocks and shares isa’s over the next few years.

At the moment I have a company car which I would love to ditch. I’d much prefer to commute and see having a second car at home is an extravagance.
We don’t tend to use the company car at home so it doesn’t really get used personally anyway other than the commute into and out of work.

    Er you do commute?

But best discuss with someone at your company really. In your position a cash for cars scheme would be better.

That’s annoyed me so much I have had to email Selco.

    You are joking right?

My problem with the halfords ‘black’ is that it’s all shallow drawers

The roll cab has a deep drawer at the bottom, the middle chest also has a deep drawer. There’s nothing to stop you buying roll cab and middle chest only if you don’t need that many drawers but need 2 deep ones.

The red set is also red which almost immediately made it a no for me, black looks much cooler in my garage 🙂

I’ve looked at the Halfords stuff, the cheaply range is a bit nasty, the professional and industrial look decent but are currently a bit pricey.

I spent a long time looking at roll cabs/chests. The red halfords ones feel a bit cheap so I went for the ‘industrial’ ones. Had a look on ebay too but just watch the sizing as the cheap ones tend to be quite narrow.

I got the roll cab, tool chest and 170 piece socket set for £399, halfords had a 10% off everything deal going for a few hours one day, bought Halfords vouchers through work with 10% discount and used my British cycling membership to take another 10% off – total cost was £290 plus I sold my old socket set for £40. Plus 3% back through quidco.

Halfords now do a middle chest so I’ll be adding that when they do another 10% off thing.

I’m really pleased with them, great quality and well worth the money.

Edit: got my price wrong it was initially £399.

Conversely, if someone pulled out on you at say 40mph and you were 4 seconds = 71mtrs (without any braking) I’d reckon you’d have ‘plenty’ of time to “realise what’s happening, get over the initial disbelief factor, decide on a plan and implement it”

And he probably expected the driver to either stop or move to the other side of the road, not carry on towards him.

I was riding home last year on a wide cycle path, I usually stick to the left hand side of the path. Saw someone coming towards me on my left, thought they’ll probably move over, as we got closer he didn’t move and clearly wasn’t looking ahead so I moved to the middle of the path with plenty room for him to pass, he looked up at the last second, decided to move to the right side and moved straight into my path. He came off much worse than me.

just buy a cheap one from B&q/garden centre, you’ll use it a few times then it’ll just sit in a corner unused anyway. So don’t spend much.

Question doesn’t make sense. You could have a very small mortgage or a very large mortgage, having multiplies of either amount doesn’t get you to a monthly figure you would need to live on.

did i mention that they also want a project logo, a shield or crest was suggested

I’m sure someone on here will do you a logo for free, if you ask nicely. You should start another topic.

Can any shed on light for the real reasons behind doing this?

Yes, its not all about you or mountain bikers in general for that matter.

I’ve never understood why the local shop can’t act as a collection point for a supermarket local delivery with the order done on-line or through point in the shop.

So the local shop that sells milk, bread and stuff lets people pick up their orders of milk, bread and stuff from the supermarket? I can understand why few shop owners would keen on that plan.

There are some other niggles relating to being in the middle of French countryside like random drops in the water supply which I kind of accept but the major other bugbear is quite literally the flies

Do they not have their own water tank which you can switch on when the supply drops, or rather is diverted for agricultural use.

Hot country in fly shocker, although unless your exaggerating then something is dead in the house.

Why can’t you continue to use the pool?

Whilst I wouldn’t dream of publishing what I’m listening to on facebook, why would anyone, I couldn’t care less what other people think of the music I’m listening too.

You need to be your own man and not stress about what other people think. Are you under 16?

+1 for a decent razor, not a modern multiblade rubbish, an old skool safety razor

Apart from cost I can’t see any reason to get him a niche shaving product. Modern blades give a very good shave so I can see no reason to go down that route.

Get him a really good wet razor, some decent gel and a moisturiser to use afterwards

As I said in my my OP i have got him a good quality razor. But he doesn’t like it so I’ll be getting him an electric razor. Why would he want tough skin on his face?

Last flight I was on there was a guy sitting across with me endlessly fiddling with one. Think he must have bought it in the airport swatch shop. Looked quite nice.

I had a swatch in the 80’s, it had hands on it.

Not sure aerodynamics comes into play on the low speeds of a climb, if its steep 10%+ unless you are a pro i very much doubt you will be travelling more than 10mph anyway.

Don’t know if you’re referring to my advice but gripping the bars either side of the stem on a climb isn’t about aerodynamics. Give it a go, works for me.

There’s a guy in Glasgow does this and from what I hear is pretty busy. Its a good idea for commuters as the guy come come to your workplace and fix your bike for the ride home – if has has a slot obviously.

I wouldn’t expect to be very busy for half the year though.

Not read the replies but try gripping the bars either side of the stem, makes a big difference in speed for me. Obviously this is when sitting down only.

I would not employ any one who was rude to waiters, receptionists or cleaners.

Do you employ people who are rude to people in other jobs then, traffic wardens for example?

You may think that’s funny, I don’t understand what you’re attempting to say.

er no, this one ‘Fairly rude and I wouldn’t to it myself’, but its fine if you want to be selective.

I do find myself saying “please” and “thank you” for other people which has earned me some dirty looks but so far nothing worse.

Sarcasm I presume, not very polite.

The few of you saying that this is acceptable behaviour, I bet you take calls in quiet zones on public transport too?

    How much?

If I ever come face to face with someone on their mobile whilst I want their service I talk to them very loudly and try and engage them in conversation

    How very rude.

    pebblebeach

Not really binners, I’m sure we could all think of a situation where we would take the call no matter where we were.

    Voicemail. Amazing, isn’t it?

    And not always appropriate.

And how do the haterz know that the woman in question didn’t say to the checkout operator, ‘sorry but I need to take this call’

    pebblebeach
    Free Member

Well yes, because if I’m expecting such a call, I wouldn’t be doing my shopping. I’d find a nice cafe to sit in and wait. Or, if an urgent call came unexpectedly, if possible I would make my excuses, leave and take the call.

    Ah ‘if possible’.

Nobody I’ve worked with has ever taken offence at me saying that I’m in the middle of something and would they mind if I call them back in a couple of minutes when i can be a bit more focussed.

So how do you do that without answering your phone?

If anyone is saying that they would never, ever, under any circumstances take a call while they’re at a checkout then I don’t believe you.

    pebblebeach

    I regularly take such calls.

Its great that you can plan exactly when such calls are going to come in.

If you’re on a business call, WTF are you doing shopping?

Some people need to take business calls outwith standard business times? Just a thought.

For example – say you’ve been waiting for a very important call, either personal or business, phone rings when you’re in the checkout queue, shopping on the conveyor, you need to take that call. I’d answer it. Titter & shit is different though.

you used to be able to change usernames willy-nilly but people abused it to impersonate other posters so it was clamped down on.

That was a highly amusing brief period on the forum 🙂

    pebblebeach

Fairly rude and I wouldn’t to it myself but if it stops the small talk some check out operatives like to engage in then I can understand people making a call as they approach the check out.

Scan my stuff, I’ll pack it (instead of some god awful person raising money for whatever worthy cause the supermarket is supporting that day), don’t engage me in chat about my shopping, let me pay and let me the **** out.

If you’re on a business call for example why should I stop talking because someone is scanning my stuff? And as for refusing to serve a customer I would imagine that’s gross misconduct.
