I even care about you fellow bicyclist (not in a gay way) your user name “pebblebeach” suggests a romantic soul, wistfully dreaming of a better, calmer life, your posts suggest that latent spirit is being oppressed and you find yourself pushed towards negativity and Pessimism…. would you like a Hug?

With a capital ‘h’, no thanks.

I use one of those cateye loop things on the front, would also recommend, great visibility for its size.

    I use two Cateye TL-LD1100’s on ‘flashing’ mode. That’s 20 super0bright LEDs.

Same here although one row on flash/one on constant on each light. Been using the pair since November 2007, yep 5 years, and never had an issue with them. I do use mudgaurds though so they are protected from spray but get plenty of rain from above. Thats 5 years of commuting all through winter in all weathers and if they ever fail I would buy again.

I also have a fibre flare on the seatstay, first one was replaced under warranty last years and I don’t expect this one to last the winter. Water gets into the connections and they rust.

Just checked my wiggle account, bought the first cateye October 2006, 2nd one 5 years ago tomorrow. I might buy it a present 🙂

You should read your post again and in a subjective manner think about as a grown man should you really post such nonsense or even care that people wave to you or not.

cookeaa perhaps they could sense how immature you are. Honestly, posting a long winded post because someone didn’t wave to you, what age are you. Grow up for **** sake.

TBH, your Mrs sounds like a right whiney PITA – tell her to suck it up and defrost the car like the rest of us. Start pandering to her with solutions and it’s the start of a slippery slope.

🙄 slippery slope to what exactly? Caring for your partner and making their life a bit easier if you can. There’s some right arseholes on here that think the answer to everything is to mtfu.

I would suggest fan heater on a timer plugged into extension lead.

Got your fog lights on, pebblebeach?

Only when the weather and driving conditions require them. But there is no point wasting your life trying to control situations you can’t control. You’ll get angry, have a heart attack and people will still use fog lighst at inappropriate time.

Is it foggy? No? Then turn ’em off, FFS!

Why does it bother you? People give the reason that they’re blinding, from my experience they’re not. You’re just trying to control something you can’t control. Get stressed about something that matters and stop trying to control a situation you can’t control.

I tried it twice and it was fine, but it broke the third time. Quite annoying so I sent it back, cost £8.75 to post as it is pretty big. Got a full refund including postage plus a £5 voucher to spend on compost. Great service but the product isn’t as described. I’m only 70kg so its not as if I was putting a lot of strain on it.

and I’m an expert at dogs as I’ve had 3 of them.

Friend of mine has had 3 wives, doesn’t make him an expert. Well not in keeping wives anyway.

Why don’t they just make it taste really nasty?

I would imagine hand sanitiser, meths, windolene all taste pretty nasty anyway. I really don’t think the taste will put desperate people off.

Strong smell that hospital stuff though, I enjoy sniffing it during appropriate use.

.He may be bitter but he’s right. Holiday would be ruined by those with more coinage than brain cells. Unless you grouped together with a load of mates and booked out every available space for a particular period I guess haha.

Wow you sound bitter. Oh hold on…

Lol at ‘more coinage than braincells’, do you think this coinage came from being stupid, bitter and jealous.

Thats just it though some folk on here don’t seem to understand that if they’re on £30k a year with a couple of kids then the £3k rapha holiday package isn’t aimed at them. Many seem to think it is and can’t understand why its what they believe to be ‘too expensive’. You’re not the target market so don’t sweat about its cost.

Can you imagine being stuck with a load of city w/bankers for a week, dick swinging over Lightweight deep section rims and DI2 group sets , while waiting for them at the top of every climb with their excuses of ‘high resting rate when I woke’ and ‘my saddle’s 2mm too far forward’; they can keep it, I’d rather be in a tent with you lot.

    Wow you sound bitter.

I don’t get these ‘look at the price of this’ posts. If you can’t afford it, don’t want to do it then why is it of any concern to you.

£3k for a weeks holiday isn’t a stratospheric cost you know.

the amount of muppets I see pressing Di2/EPS buttons on stationary bikes in shops makes me cry

Why, its not going to break it.

Nice bike, I can understand why you want to keep it for dry days. Nothing wrong with that, I’ve got bikes I only use in the dry but thats because I have other bikes to use in the wet.

Would I get taxed on the rental income even though it mirroring the mortgage costs?

You still have to submit a tax return stating your earnings though. But interest on your morgage is an allowable expense, but only interest not the whole mortgae payment, so if you’ve got a repayment mortgage its the interest element only that’s allowable. Plus you can claim for either 10% of rental income as wear and tear on fixtures and fittings on if you’re buying a load of new stuff then claim actual costs – whichever is greater.

+1, although IIRC white goods would still need PAT testing even if they’re not on the inventory?

I’ve used a few agents and haven’t had the electrical items pat tested since around 2000 in one property and never on the other. Agent has never brought this up.

Stick another one in? and when that one gets a puncture?

Umm you could carry ‘normal’ tubes as spares.

Is it best to flog it and rent as unfurnished or rent as furnished?

I rent out a couple of properties, one I manage myself and one I manage through an agent. The one I manage through and agent is 200 miles from home, the other 20 miles away. I use an agent to find the tenant for the one I manage myself.

Furnihsed is better from an income tax perspective – yeh remember you have to declare than on your tax return. Wear and tear hasn’t ben too bad in my properties, I had one tenant in for 5 years and replaced most of the furnishings after he left but thats not bad going.

Other than sit back and enjoy someone else paying your mortgage.

Oh and as above I use Direct Line for Landlords insurance too.

How much of a cock would you feel repairing one at the side of a trail tho.

Why would I repair it at the side of the trail? Just stick a new tube in and repair at home. Thats how I roll. Fixing a tube when its cold/wet/dark isn’t the way to go.

Blue valve stems though, my road bike has blue bits on the frame. Mmmm I’ll wait for the full review but if they’re any good I’m in. Have to go some way to beat the ride feel of Michelin latex tubes though.

I like that Looking forward to that idea being incorporated at HBS

Well it works for me and if I can get out for a few hours during the day then thats great. Its working well so far and I have some of my best ideas when on the bike. I think hbs are still stuck in the world of golf.

How did we live before mobiles? Did anyone dare venture out without being contactable?

We were restricted in how and where we could do business. If I can get out for a decent ride and still run my company well then thats great. I understand the most important call some of you may get is from the wife to let you know your tea will be on the table in 10 minutes but that isn’t always the case.

no it doesn’t bother me massively

Yet you’re seriously suggesting that everyone should at least have to switch their phone to silent whilst they’re riding their bike.

    pebblebeach

I’m at a loss at what we should do

Rent your house out and travel the world. You have a great time and your tenant pays for it. Come home after a few years and you’ll have a different outlook on life.

You have nothing to lose but your chains.

what do we think – should everyone at least have to switch their phone to silent while out on the trail?

If they want but I don’t think it should be the law. You need to get out more if it bothers you that much.

Anything else you want to ban that annoys you? Loudly coloured clothing? People speaking? Its the outdoors ffs, let people do what they want.

3/4 length bibs plus waterproof shorts.

Thats what I use for commuting this time of the year, just swicth to warmer 3/4 when it get chilly.

Thats for commuting/mountian biking, not on the road bike.

Merino riding jersey and softshell if its cold, below zero I add a merino base layer. But other items keep the heat in – cap under helmet, decent gloves, warm feet make a big difference to core temp. I’d never ride in a fleece, way too warm.

I have a couple of lights I use regulalry and the all mount on the frame or bars in a bag with a velcro strap. Never had one fall off but depending on your frame tubes they can slide along the tubd and start to rattle.

I stuck mine in a water bottle in a cage the other night though and its a much better mounting option – neat, waterproof and rattle free.
