I was having real issues with the weather on the last day. Water all over the lens and camera. So if any shots had any blur in them, I ditch them sorry. That goes for anything that I am not happy with on the other days. I delete what I wouldn’t want people to buy.

Piesoup.. did you look through the rider galleries? I do have end of day podiums yes. Any day in particular your looking for?

wow…. I remember now why I don’t really do forums much. A few people asked me about it, so I thought I would share my view and pictures from the event.

I heard so many great comments and yes some thought it was going to be different and more Enduro/DH based but this wasn’t advertised by the organisers from what I saw before hand. I understand that you can never please everyone but you have to understand the logistics of organising an event like this to appreciate that connecting 4/5 days of riding in Wales will have to include fire road sections. After the first stage many realised that if they wanted to go for the Trail King/Queen they had to either push on and get to the sections first or hang back and wait for a reasonable gap before they dropped into the timed sections. The XC riders just pushed on and treated it like a stage race and wanted to be first back each day and from what I saw most of the others enjoyed the scenery, riding and atmosphere of being in an event like this.

I ride Enduro races when not behind the camera and I would have enjoyed this event from what I saw. Most enduro races I have raced in have at least one stage if not more that have flat and uphill sections within it anyway.

I am sorry rotel that you didn’t enjoy although I feel some of your points are unfair. That is your view though and I am not going to argue. I am just a photographer that loves being outdoors and seeing others enjoy the outdoors.

There was a good mix of everything, to suit most styles of riding I would say.

that’s my worry, messing it up. Invisiframe are in Shrewsbury apparently so maybe I will have to tie it in with a ride that way.

I agree with the helmets, and for the shoot maybe it should have been sorted. They are a very new team, two rode for KTM last year and the other three joined this year.So very early days, although I am sure things will change throughout the season.

WorldClassAccident I appreciate all of that. I had a big issue in that I couldnt get the theme to work with a shop. I had to get someone to rewrite some code behind the scenes to get it to remotely work. I may change the theme again in a year or so if it doesn’t evolve into what I want. I will be adding calenders and cards etc this year. I am working on a few ideas.
As for the site, it’s a portfolio of my work. An area for people to see my work and follow my outdoor life. I want to work more with my blog and I have a few exciting projects this year. I find people contact me direct to purchase and I tend to push my limited editions and hand framed work more than the standard prints I offer in the shop.
I also use twitter and facebook to take people to the website and ultimately buy from me or use my services.

All these comments are useful though as everyone sees things differently and there are many more experienced out there than myself.

johndoh. I know its not the best on a phone. It works fine on a tablet. It is hard to cater for everything when building a website on limited funds and knowledge.

WorldClassAccident, that is a fair point, thank you. I wrote this early last year and a lot has changed since then. I didn’t really feel like a photographer then and a little shy to say that I was.

leffeboy, the whole watermark debate is a tough one. I found that the majority would rather not see a watermark on the images. Many say it distracts from the image. It is a real tough one, maybe never to be right or wrong.

andybanks, I was led to believe it was law to have the cookie sign but if not I will certainly omit it. I will look into the contact form. As for the galleries. I have my main set of galleries of my landscape work. client gallery is a password protected gallery for events and the such like. The portfolio page is split up into different section for my other genres of photography, publications and blog style images sets.
Most have been positive about that section.

User-removed. I had thought about that idea too but I did go for the Lowe pro bag in the end. Looks great and build quality is supurb as you would expect. I tend to only carry my main body and my 24-70 lens and maybe some filters but have some event photography coming up and would like to take a couple of lens’ and probably a flash. Then again on the events I wont be cycling miles so weight etc isnt an issue.

tall_martin, thanks for that. I have been pondering over colour. I was worried whether the orange would get grubby quick. I don’t often take the camera with me, it will only be for when doing natural rides or photo shoots. as when I am on the trails I like to shred and don’t like a lot of weight on my back 🙂

I think after a fair bit of looking, I have decided on the Lowepro Photo Sport 200 AW Backpack. It will not only be great for biking but I could also use it when doing shorter hikes or outdoor shoots.

Thanks ampthill, I liked how easily accessible it was, hadn’t thought of a waist bag. I am not sure if it would annoy me whilst riding though.

Thanks guys, I have been looking at the lowepro gear and like the look of it.I also came across the Mantona Rhodolit Backpack which looks interesting. Any one come across these before? I don’t mind spending good money on a pack as its carrying expensive cargo 😉
Mainly I only take my 5dii, 2 lenses and maybe a flash etc. At the moment I have my camera etc in small padded bags and then put them in my Osprey cycling pack but it’s a faff when you want that quick shot!

Thank you MrSmith and I understand that TooTall but I thought I look into it as a few people have have asked me the question and the truth was I didnt really know if there would be much in it. Its also the convenience of having a printer at home to use on demand. Sometimes you end up printing 2 or 3 times before your happy with the final image even with soft proofing.

If he’s anything like my better half then, NO!! I have to be aware of what spoons etc I stir things with. It seems cross contamination on any scale is a big no no.. I have learnt the hard way!! 😆

Ive had some great results with a poloriser lens on seascapes, I also like to use graduated filters as like others say on here it helps keep the colour and detail in the darker half of the image.
Another option is HDR, not something I have tried much of myself yet but I have seen some great results on images like the one above.

Ampthill, thank you for the comments. there are some amazing photos there, like I say Im no professional just someone that enjoys the mountains and always has a camera on him but since owning a dslr for this last year It has made me realise how little I know about photography and very hungry to learn more. Its so addictive 🙂

sturdylad… it was very easy to use and its free if you want it to be, I pay £1.99 a month to host my own domain name but im not too hot on the technical stuff!! I got my domain name from LCN? I think.. something like £6 for two years.
There may be better ways of doing this but Im a novice on computers so I just went with what ever seemed easy 😉 Wix do plenty of plug in and social attachments etc so you can create what ever you want.
