i've heard of reliability issues with exposure's lights. but then again i've got a dodgy connection in my 2LED's aswell. Hope are going to sort that for me though :-)

ghetto. unless you like spending lot's of money for something you can do yourself for half the price.

about the top 20m are fine. the digger wasn't much further down from here and it's a mess for the rest of the descent.

i presumed it must have been really recent because there was no mention about it on the thread last week (the one that made me want to go out and ride it).

    bad luck i suppose

i've got a weird frame with no possible way of getting one's arm through. was hike-a-biking in the lakes on sunday and had the downtube (near BB) on my shoulder and held the bike by the fork. carried a 36lb bike like this for a good 45mins with no(t much) bother.

also, are there any dirt jumps in this area?

cheers for the info – i did actually have afan in mind so will probably head there. still think cwmcarn on the friday though because it's likely to be quieter.

also…going to need a good curry house!!

hmmm, going to look in to this as my bike nearly fell off the car roof on the way back from the lakes on sunday and the rotor, which took all of the impact when it all went horizontal, now resembles a pringle!

surely you dont want to be melting the thing just soften it up, so why would you need to get up anywhere near 1000degrees?!

get off the brakes i'd say. played on the TT's a bit at chicksands last time i went down and it's hard not to dab the brakes but once you train yourself not to do it you'll clear them no probs. more time in the air = better control/more time to get your balance right & position your bike for landing.

did the cutgate ride from langstaff last night and it's still a great ride. didn't know it before sanitisation so can't really compare but the descents both ways off the top are both amazing and don't really seem sanitised (apart from the slabs heading down towards derwent). the descent back to lagsett is just the nuts! very fast & very fun :D

personally (peachos) i dont find any massive enjoyment in going somewhere challenging, and then taking a Boat of a bike i just have to steer in the right direction and let a monster squish do all the work.

i get what you're saying mate, but it's not really what i put across. i suppose i must be from the 'short travel HT/long travel bouncy bike person' though. i find it very rewarding hooning it through a rock field whilst trying not to slip out everywhere and avoid the rim-wreckers. but i also like finding the smoothest line on my HT, trying my hardest to avoid as much rockyness as possible whilst going as fast as possible.

in fact, i'm going to start a third 'type of rider'. the type of rider who actually just enjoys riding any type of bike. that's me that is :-)

oh, and if you're a good boarder you should pick up skiing quickly. my first day on skis i just went to the top of the mountain and hit the first black run i could find. but i suppose riding with skiiers lots helped me.

depends who you are looking to ski guide for. i've worked in ski resort and there's a distinct difference between ski guides who work from their hotel (ie crystal holidays et al) who are basically just taking guests around the pistes and ski guides who work for a proper ski guide company who will be offering a proffesional service taking skiiers far away from the pistes and into the backcountry.

can't believe that people still argue about whether skiing or boarding is the best. i ride and always have ridden with both. i board myself but it's undeniable that both ski and board industries have learned lots from each other. look at the way ski's have developed since the introduction of snowboards with their progressive sidecuts etc.

oh, and you'll never beat riding through waist deep powder on a board :D (well, maybe a 20 foot wave but i've never achieved that)

just buy a cheap old racer and fix it up how you want and spend all the money you have saved on your proper bike.

spotted a dude at the bikewash area of llandegla last year who had lost the bolt on which his brake lever pivoted on. he'd popped one of the screwdriver/alan keys through the hole and zip tied the rest of the tool to the top of the main brake body and carried on with a fully functioning brake. impressive stuff.

what's all this 'to take the edge off' lark. i thought suspension was designed to keep you pinned to the ground over the rough stuff. you can still pick your line through big boulder fields on FS so it's not just ploughing through stuff – you just get more options than you have on a short travel HT.

i've just built up a 100mm HT and i love the way that it rides and handle but up in the lakes or the peaks i'll take my big bouncy 6" machine thankyou

i took my syncros rear wheel in to edinburgh cycles for a freehub & bearing service/replacement. they had it for about a month, charged me about £45 and couldn't even source the correct freehub for replacement, blaming jungle for not being able to supply the right one. took the wheel back and the 'service' of the freehub lasted all of 2 weeks (it was pretty **** though). i got on to jungle and they were actually loads of help and contacted syncros in canadia and identified the correct freehub.

so i probably wouldnt use them again…

I had a vinyl album (Psycledelic by Johnny Moped IIRC) that had 2 lead in tracks on side 1 so which track you got was dependant on where you put the stylus on……. v cool

eh? so the 1 track started at point 1 and the other at 180degrees from that or something? awesome.

yeah just buy a syringe and a bit of tubing – attach to caliper & undo the bolt on the caliper a bit. Harry Tuttle's WD40 tube is a good idea but i dont understand the lever being upside down. I rotate my levers so they are pointing upwards.

A good tip is it fill your syringe with lots of fluid and force it all through the system. this should eliminate and bubbles you might have floating around in the hose.

easy brake to bleed after the first couple of gos.

    how many inbreds?!

    USE

    06 Norco Six-One main bike.
Recently built DMR Trailstar SS for local loops. Don't know what year it is.
Old (maybe 60's or 70's?) LeJeune road bike. Converted to SS for commuting and training. Awesome bike that I paid a tenner for off Gumtree.

    DONT USE

Circa 95 Marin Indian Fire Trail. Awaiting a reincarnation.
Team Saracen BMX Jump bike. Blookdy heavy.

firstly, an extra shirt each day equates to 5 shirts extra each week which is certainly NOT an extra load in the washing machine each week.

and i love one of the replies at the bottom of the page

But you overlook the main environmental impact of cycling. Bikes slow the traffic so cars are on the road longer and running at inefficient speeds that use more petrol and create more pollution.

still dont really understand these things. £60-£250 to save you the hassle of getting off your bike for a sec, undoing the QR dropping your seat and then tightening you QR again.

    balmy!

i just built my first bike up for about £350 – mostly 2nd hand stuff but i did end up getting a few things (still at good prices but) brand spanking. agree with the finishing kit being the most expensive; tyres, grips etc add loads to the cost so if you have stuff lying around to use you can cut corners.
