i like the idea of a pump track, or even a small set of jumps or a skills area where people could hang out/test bikes properly. depends on the site really but next to a massive warehouse would be perfect!!

i have an 08 (maybe 07) 2LED and i think that the mount is miles better than the QR one you get with the new versions. it's a proper cnc'd bracket that bolts on to your bar and is super-sturdy as apposed to the foam pads that wobble around on the QR version. so in my view it would be a good purchase. i think all you need is a front plate to replace the normal one on a hope stem and the light unit bolts directly on to that.

that's the route we normally do starting from Langsett though. it's dead easy once you get to the end of derwent. But it's miles better from this side as you get the awesomeness of the main descent all the way to the car!

Peachos, it was more hairy without the lights and when my rear pads went and my front caliper half dropped off it started to get very interesting!

I didn't think it was all that wet really, few random bogs to catch the sleepy, but not much. Enjoy!

    do i know you?

rode it on tuesday and despite the low cloud/hill fog and all the rain we've been seeing lately it was pretty dry. the best bit was descending back to Langsett in the dark with the fog with only two metres max visability. eerie, dangerous but intensely fun! never ridden it in those conditions before :-)

they really can't have that much affect on your riding. old pair of etnies never let me down.

i just bought one from decathelon for £50. used it at lots whilst SITS over the weekend and really impressed, feels very solid and stable. doesn't fold up, but you can have the legs off in a jiffy so not much of a downside.

blackstone edge is ace fun. where do you head after you cross over the mway? i know the area relatively well but am always keen on finding new bits. this is the usual loop i would do for an evening ride: http://www.bikehike.co.uk/mapview.php?id=11327

as i set off up the first grassy climb on my first lap on sunday (430am ish) i was in a right foul mood until my lights light up someone's glow-in-the-dark bangles hanging from under his seat looking like his ball sack. made me smile and completely changed my mood!

try to rescue the cartridge first – pop the seal on the top & flush with wd40/gt85 etc. if they're not pitted or corroded they'll be fine. once they've dried out pack out with as much grease as possible.

only use water and clean every now & then

tip: to clean black gunk from hose get an old gear cable and wrap some paper towel/cotton wool to the end with the round bit of metal. thread & pull through tube a couple of times and you no longer have a black gunk infested tube. :-)

Because at the end you get a real sense of acheivement. Even though actually when you think about it, what you have done is totally and utterly pointless

didn't read all of this thread but what a brilliant quote!!

i'll be there in a team but good luck to you soloists.

btw – has anyone received any confirmation from the organisers? have seen the list of teams on their website but no instructions for the day…

foxychick – any of these two lovely ladies you? i was chatting to these two at sometime in the wee hours. far more appealing than the hoards of men in lycra!

i'll be there with 40+ riders from my club – Manchester Mountain Bikers. for some reason my horror stories about the mud and rain of last year sounded appealing to this lot!

will be on the siglespeed with ignitors probablly.

AND I WONT BE WASHING MY BIKE THIS YEAR!! :D

don't wear a new watch that you are bothered about getting smashed out on the trail

15 year old g-shock suits me well and it has the best feature for night riding where when i lift my arm up the light comes on. magic!

sooner than that steve. the chap i was chatting with said they are all pretty much good to go – just waiting for h&s to come and greenflag it. just needs signage and a couple of finishing touches by the looks of things. not this weekend though fozzybear i'm afraid.

mcmoab is great fun. managed it with only 2 dabs, shame it's such a trek to try again! if, after you drop down the chute, you turn 180 degrees and head back towards the bottom of the run out, but a bit to the right, there is a tiny kicker which transitions on to the wall ride…which is fun :D

out of interest, has anyone ridden blackstone edge near rochdale? it's a similar terrain to this in the fact that it's mega technical, trials-esque rock slabs.

you've probably not broken a rib if you can still walk/ride etc. i fell off an wall and landed on hard-pack ice when snowboarding earlier in the year (always check your landing spots kids!). had the camera in side pocket and it went staight to rib. was coughing up blood, in excrutiating pain for the next two days and everytime i breathed in i was sure i could feel the broken rib moving. back in the UK went to visit doc who told me if it was broken i wouldn't have been able to board for the rest of the holiday with broken ribs.

i had ruptured the cartilidge between the ribs but it was still incredibly sore and still is a bit now if i fall on it!

i like air at alton towers – not coz it's fast and scary but coz of the feeling like you are flying. get on the front seat and you don't see much of the tracks etc.

And a roof-rackstrap wrapped around the cirumference of tyre helps
inflation, presses the bead down innit.

that's an excellent tip! i usually mess around with zipties particularly around the valve area to keep the bead on the rim. nice one.

recently got a full set of HFX-9's for £100. including everything you need (rotors, mounts, lever & caliper etc). the CRC deal was good but still had to add bits and it worked out more by the time you got all the bits n pieces.

great brake IMO – got em on both bikes.

    stan's tubless kit is between £50 – £70. i went ghetto for £20.
    much heavier…how exactly?

As he said already, hes got tubeless wheels, so he wouldnt need the kit. All he needs is the yellow rim tape and valves.

ok so i didn't read that he already had tubeless rims, in which case i don't know why the ghetto option is an option.

And if ghetto cost you £20, I would say the proper method is cheaper as well.

hmmm, don't understand your logic there mate. to convert none tubeless rims using ghetto style cost me £20 for everything. a stans tubeless kit is minimum £50 for everything. which is cheaper?

ghetto would probably work out to be about £10 cheaper, and much heavier. Probably not as reliable either. And all the stuff like valves and rim tape are re-usable/can do more then 1 wheel.

i probably shouldn't say this but i haven't had a single problem with the ghetto method and have been riding them for about 5 months. and i ride quite hard and rocky stuff. LUST ignigtor rear, highroller single ply front.
