Nice one, I’ll take them off you if you don’t get on with them. Will check back next week.

I disagree with the comments about them affecting the handling of the bike. Just fitted them to my other bike (FS 170mm travel) and been at BPW last weekend. Didn’t notice any difference to the handling of saod bike at all & so far 100% success rate of defending against flats! So all good in my book & I want to fit some to my 29er, but none in stock, hence trying to find the diameter of the 29+ kit so I can purchase some foam separately…

Does anyone know the diameter of the 29×3.0 anaconda foam?

Pond liner or something similar. Cut & shaped to fit using plenty of gaffer. Punched a load of eyelets into it & used paracord and small carabiners off ebay to hold it into place. Despite a few minor repairs and alterations, still going strong after a couple of years use.

If you can supply with a go pro style mount that would be great as I’ve never been a fan of the o-ring style mount (was one of the things I was looking for in my purchase). 31.8mm will be great & I’ll get another mount for the other bike which has a 35mm bar.

    Cheers.

@dave – can you confirm the go pro style mount is included or do I need to source one?

Yes, this is the one. Thanks all, placing an order this morning! :-)

Nah it wasn’t troutie or mtb batteries. It was a chap from somewhere down south, I’d not heard of his stuff before, but he built and sold a couple of different lamps through an online bike shop rather than his own site.

Yeah, sorry that’s the shop I meant. Out of stock.

Currently reading this. It’s a bit less ‘action’ than other mountaineering books, but definitely worth a read/enjoyable.

Cheers guys. A mate has the tool, so will see how we get on with/without that this time before investing in my own.

You can change the bearings in the freehub body

Also interesting. I thought it sounded a bit crap/wasteful having to bin the whole freehub if just the bearings are shot.

I did mine with ring in place.

Interesting. Been looking at the tools to remove the ratchet ring, but if it can be done without spending £50 then jobs a good ‘un.

Thanks for the feedback. From Madison:

So with regards to bearings in your rear hub, there is x1 6902 bearing on the disc side and another 6902 on the driveside. These will be available on part number HBDT806. As for the freehub, if any of those bearings need replacing, it will be a case of replacing the freehub completely. This will be available on either HBDT4193 (Shimano) or HBDT3869 (Sram). To access the driveside bearing, youll need to remove the ratchet ring with the DT tool. This is available on part number HBDT5266.

All of the above will be available to order through any of your local Madison dealers/bike shops accordingly.

Without knowing your budget difficult to advise peachos but I’m in the midst of organising my wedding at the moment, a field and marquee sounded like a good idea until i actually started pricing it and got to about 7k for field (1.5k+vat for a pitch), marquee(3k +vat for a small one inc delivery assembly and removal), porta loos (600+vat) and generator (about 800+vat if i remeber but that said i had zero clue on what i needed for that) At that point i still needed furniture etc, food, booze, dj/band and so forth.

A flashy stately home package actualy worked out cheaper, though also not the option we took (their “expensive” all in one packages actually all worked out better than the cheaper packages once you’d added everything back in).

Interesting feedback thanks! I suppose we’re tying to DIY on the cheap – don’t really want to spend more than a grand for venue hire. Thinking about buying a marquee & selling it on again after we’re done. Getting a mate in for some of the catering…that sort of thing. Don’t believe in just chucking money at a problem :-)

Cost wise Loweswater village hall was cheap.

IIRC, £200 for 3 days (set up- wedding day- pack up)

We used a local sports committee for the bar. That was around £300 including reception drinks and toast and the bar was cheap (£2-£3 pint), all profits go back to the community.

And hog roast from the local butcher kept everyone fed.

This seems very appealing…off to look for village halls then! Thanks for the info.

Thanks everyone – some interesting suggestions. Many are way out of our price range though!

We had our wedding do at Loweswater village hall.

I *think* the field next to it may be available too.

Interesting. The lakes would be the ideal place for me (it’s ok to knock out a quick ride beforehand right?!).

    Will look into it.

Can’t help with just a field, but for the full package have you looked at Heaton House farm??

Cheers – that looks way above our budget.

Spent the week between Xmas Eve & NYE in Morzine – rode up in Avoriaz 4 days out of the 6. Given it hasn’t snowed since Nov conditions were brilliant – so much open considering we were expecting just a few runs. Remarkable what they have done with the canons really. It was however nuts busy at times, especially 3-4pm when everyone was making their way down. We got a full PdS pass on our last day and headed over to Chatel side to try and avoid the crowds & it was much quieter.

    Blue skies all week!

Had mine a month or so now. Absolutely rapid as **** bike. Been smashing PBs out left, right and centre on my usual trails.

Unbelievable value for money. Love it!

Bought one at the start of summer. I read a load of reviews and this one came out very well. Used it a few times and it charges super quick when in direct sunlight.

I’m pretty much medium kinda guy so I reckon it’ll be fine. Have thought about upping to Large for other bikes I’ve considered, but with this one I think medium us right. Cheers for the feedback.

Hey Chapaking, good write up! I’m about to hit the button on that same model as you. How does it stack up size-wise for you? I’m about 5’10” and gonna go for the 18″.

    Cheers!

So Joe, the event director, called me before for a chat about the issues. Seemed like a decent enough guy, but reeled of the same old reasons that I got fed via email. All to do with insurance blah blah blah. He kept going on about the event being much different than other enduros and the fact that ‘ard Rock puts on a ‘festival’ etc. which is why the T&Cs have to be the way they are.

Personally, didn’t buy it, especially the fact that when I quizzed him about transfers he didn’t really have a good reason not to do this for a small fee (though he did say they might look into changing their policy on this in the future).

So no solution or compromise. I’m still backed into a corner to find an alternative way around this without being ripped off.

For other people in my situation, I’ve been told that photo ID will be required at sign on, so something to think about

So I’ve been emailing them about this, to no avail. Posted a question on their FB page, which seems to have disappeared and now looks like you can’t comment on any of their posts etc.

    Guilty conscience?!?!

Yep, I fully agree with that MC. Charge an admin fee or even the full amount if it’s close to the event, but 50% when they’re going to go away and make another sale at full price isn’t cool.

Just cancel your ticket and let someone on the waitlist get an entry and stop whingein

How about no! I’m not giving them the opportunity to make more money out of me.

    It’s a piss take.

As you can see, I’m a bit pi$$ed off with the organisers. Got a ticket, but can no longer make the event unfortunately. I’ve even got a mate who wants to take the ticket off my hands.

Apparently it’s not fair on the people who have their names on a waitlist to transfer my place to someone I know. How about being fair to the people who have paid cash up front to make the event happen?!

    Profiteering, plain and simple.

By riders, for riders my arse.

I know this goes against the grain on here, but IMO the Galaxy is a much better car than the Berlingo (though I did love the Berlingo when I had it).

PS the Berlingo failed on its head gasket AND the rear axle collapsed in the middle of France!

These were more reasons why we wanted a new car!

    peachos

Had a 51 plate 1.9 diesel Berlingo. It was cheap, which was great coz I didn’t care about it getting knackered from bikes inside & out. Easy to clean due to lined flooring. Not brilliant to drive. Sluggish. Newer ones probably a bit better. Had 4 bikes & bods & weekend kit all inside. Too short to sleep in.

When that died, got a 52 plate 2.0 TDI Ford Galaxy (mk2). Far better to drive, comfortable & very fast. Massive inside once all the seats were out – two fully built bikes no probs with loads of room for kit. Excellent for carrying people – all 7 seats are full size. Same as the Sharan & Alhambra – see loads of them around. Can sleep in this easily.

Changed that for something more up to date & now have a LWB Ford Tourneo Connect. Wanted a greener car so almost new was the way to go – great value compared to VW. Tonnes of space with seats folded flat (which is better than having 5 clunky seats in the garage), but to be honest not as good for chucking a couple of bikes in compared to the others. Drives really well, loads of gadgets, but not as fast as the Galaxy (only 1.6). Good for sleeping in.

If we didn’t go for the newer car, would have looked at another Galaxy/Alhambra/Sharan, especially recommended for the car-like drive. They do have cooling system issues, which is where ours failed. Tried all sorts to fix it, but none of the mechanics could diagnose without taking the head gasket apart. It was probs a head gasket problem though.

Have a look at the ‘Dutchie’ brand of bikes. They do one that’s very similar to the Pashley Princess, but loads cheaper. Got my Mrs one on ebay for £130 barely used. As above, proper Dutch style with hub gears (Nexus) and brakes, enclosed chain, full guards, rack etc. so pretty resilient.

Does weigh a tonne, but great bike – really lovely to ride.

That’s a bit presumptuous! How are you getting to this conclusion?

Maybe an investor using the site (Crowd Cube) saw the opportunity, read the supporting documentation and thought it was a sound investment with significant potential for a good return in the future. £100,000 for 15% stake in a new business. Just guessing like you.

    You could always ask them…

I actually added my support before the £100,000 was added, so you’re wrong on at least one part of your comment.

yer but one was a £100,000 pledge?

Is that not a good thing?

not convinced it’s an investment mind

Yeah fair point, maybe not investment, but I reckon it’s worth chucking £50 into the pot to see it happen, with the bonus of getting a free session on your birthday.

If enough of us did that they’d meet their target easily.

    Ibiza – http://rideibiza.com/

Went year before last & took my bike and found some good trails. I didn’t end up riding with Ride Ibiza due to schedule (was there for a wedding), but was in contact with Ash and he seemed like a good dude – was happy to point me in the direction of the good trails nearby.

There was a STW feature on it too.

Had really good experience with Axa Assistance when we broke down in Europe. Well priced too (thing £70 for the year).

Can you get it through your bank? Reward account etc.
