There is a diversion in place for Glenlivet :)

Just been looking more at the Propain and it is perfect. They also do a 16″ one :D

    I was inspired by this

A commencal is definitely an option if one comes up at the right price at the right time.

The propain is very cool and very expensive. Want one very much!

I guess that is a no then. Any other suggestions for a full suss 24″ bike?

He is really tiny then, I thought mine was small in age 2-3 at 3 and a half ish.

He will grow though and you’ll have loads more choice :)

It certainly looks like a girls bike

But this is a girls bike too..

Girls bikes do make great bikes for small boys as they tend to have a lower standover. I do suspect the lovely purple/pink bike might be a bit big though for Speeder’s son

Flly Racing youth gloves come in teeny weeny sizes – my son has had some since his second birthday.

Trout – the MX12 is quite heavy, less than half a kg lighter than the MX16. I picked up one (the rider had fallen off) and I was shocked how heavy it is.

How tall is he? Specialized Hotrock 12 has a very low standover

Also IIRC there is a wee car park on the right hand side of the dirt track up to the centre.

I hope you don’t have to cycle up pushing your 10 year old like I have to do :D

It was great to have uplift, but it did work out rather expensive. It is £3 per uplift, or 5 for £12. There were 4 of us and it didn’t seem fair to make the other kids cycle up when we were getting uplift.

He is rather precocious. He loves going down and doing jumps, but it is usually such a nightmare trying to get him UP the hills first…

I wish I had a GoPro – boy wouldn’t stop to let me take a photo.

Have fun at Glentress, we must go there one day!

Our woman only mtb club often runs courses for its members. Not local to you but there might be a club that does something similar?

I thought about a full face when my son was zooming around, jumping etc on a balance bike but when I looked into it most of the helmets weigh 1kg+ and it didn’t seem to make much sense bunging that weight on top of a 12kg child.

Now he is three and zooming around on a pedal bike (and getting air on jumps, flying down the Orange at Laggan etc) I am thinking about full face again, but something lightweight like I linked to above.

I like the look of Cratoni C-Maniac. I think it would still be too big though.

moniex – thanks very much for the recommendations, I will check them out. I have also just found a spesh gromhit in sweden and a commencal 24. (Sorry took so long to reply – just found this thread again!)

    dan, love the Whyte bike.

One of the best things about the Specialized Hotwalk is it has small platforms the rider can put their feet on, which makes it easier for tricks – saw one doing the spine at the skatepark :D

My son’s uses the “chainstays” on his Likeabike Jumper to put his feet up on.

Mine wear motocross trousers. Shred kids stuff looks good, and they are going to be doing mtb shorts soon.

My littlest got motocross gloves when he was 2 so they go very small – still wearing the same pair at 3.5!

My little dude has a ridgeback scoot. It has a brake. He has never once used it.

    The bike or the brake?

<<snort>> I just googled Coleman jobby to see what one looks like.

My son has a Likeabike Jumper which is fantastic, but he started off on a Puky LRM which was also great and small for the tiny ones.

We did add a front brake to the Jumper (Likeabike sell one) and while it works fine it doesn’t really help on steep hills as the bike just tips forward – he can come down the same hills fine on his pedal bike using just a front brake as he can get his weight back.

I do feel that just having a rear brake on a balance bike will encourage kids to just use their back brake when they start riding a pedal bike and they won’t realise how much more control you have using your front brake. (or am I over thinking this…)

My 7 year old has a Mafiabike bbkush which has 16″ wheels.

Perfect for skateparks and dirt jumps and general messing about.

That’s cool that the front brake is already good. Is it vbrake or sidepull? I had to do the aforementioned fork replacement on my son’s bike as I found his sidepull brakes were no use at all.

Let me know if you manage to sort the back brake as I really must do my son’s. Mind you he is doing fine with just a front brake. And he has decided foot jams are way more fun anyway…

richpips is right – you can slacken off the spring. I haven’t actually done it, but have seen it mentioned and I need to get around to doing it.

I would suggest contacting a couple of British kids bike manufacturers (ie Islabike and Frog) and seeing if they would sell you a fork with vbrake bosses. They might even sell you the vbrakes and levers too.
