I’ve been trying to figure this out recently as well whilst trying to sell a wardrobe on Facebook (stealth ad!).

As everyone else says, once they’ve transferred money to your account they can only get it back if you want them to. But in this case, what’s the scam? Why is someone who is based nowhere near me desperate to pay full price for an item they’ve not seen and that their “cousin” will come collect. And why am I getting a dozen near identical messages from similar people?

Are other people still able to buy tickets now/this afternoon? Ticketmaster is telling me that there’s nothing available, same message since about 9:45 this morning?

Bought/sold house in Bristol during the stamp duty holiday last summer and made about 5 offers on places in the region of £10-15k over asking and list out on all. Got ours for £25k over in the end (£355k) but that was only because the estate agent talked us up as a young pregnant couple (we’d also sold through them and they were desperate to keep it moving). Sellers gave us the chance to match the top bid and they’d choose us.
I agree that losing out on money to sell to the “right person” is a hard stretch for most but we’re grateful that we got the chance to match.

The chain then ended up taking about 8 months before we actually moved. So don’t think that it’s all easy once you’ve agreed a price…..

Loved the look of our solid wood worktop and agree that oiling it is the solution to keeping water off it. However, trying to find a 24-48hr window to oil it and not use it means that it was rarely done. Was very low down on my to do list as something to do just before locking the front door when going away for the weekend

It’s one of the things that annoy me most in the world, applying for a job and not even getting a blanket email BCC’d to however many people saying thanks but no thanks.
However the ones that seem very positive in the first round and say that the “Technical Director” or whoever will definitely follow up in the next couple of days to then blank you entirely and ignore all emails/calls seems a lot more personal

I’ve always been a fan of Kalamazoo beard shampoo from Lush (hold your breath as you go in). I can definitely tell the difference if I don’t use it for a few days

I would advocate not buying a starter but make your own. You can have a ready to go starter in about the same time it will take one to be delivered. Plus you get to be smug about it.

I used the starter recipe from the same Hobbs website as the link above as well as generally using their basic sourdough loaf recipe.

Main change I made is putting it into the fridge overnight for the second “raise” rather than somewhere warm. Makes it a lot easier to handle to get into the oven.

From what I’ve heard (and Petefromearth’s suggestion), somewhere like Dyson could be a good fit. I had what seemed like a very promising couple of phone calls with someone from their recruitment team a couple of years ago where I was told to expect an interview for a role any day now. After a couple of weeks of chasing I gave up but if they are recruiting again I might give them another try?

<Been tempted to train as a plumber so I can get out side and be self employed but also considering emigrating. Both are a big plunge though.>

    Pun intended?

    Thanks for the replies.

It’s not just the company, for all of its failings I am generally happy with how it is run (other than the usual grumblings that everywhere has) and the people I work with/for. I’m definitely aware that the grass wouldn’t necessarily be greener just for being a different company. It would still be the same stuff just in a different office.

I think my main reason for change is the lack of much innovation in the work that I do. I’ve done a lot of work where I’m just repeating analyses etc that have been done before but with a very minor design or load changes that inevitably won’t change a lot. I’ve pondered whether a smaller company would provide more variance (be a bigger cog in a smaller machine type of thing) but think that it might just be how the majority of aerospace is and that most changes are going to be minor and slow.

I think you’re right about not worrying too much about the specific job specs and just getting in touch with any company that seems interesting and seeing where they could place me (if they want me).

As Defcon 1 is the most severe I’m assuming that Defcon 10 is a cheery wave and “have a nice day”?

Pedantry aside, I always go for a “excuse me” rather than a bell as well

Ive had some of the fevers at night after a long day on the bike (waking up drenched in sweat and shivering with cold). Had some blood tests done but never got to the bottom of it. In the end I decided that it was possibly a lack of protein/ calorie deficit (you mentioned not eating enough) after a lot of exercise (only eating 500-1000 calories after burning 2000-3000) and took it as an excuse to eat lots more. Haven’t had them for a few years now.
