I had a TN Laser Photon2, sold at biggish loss on ebay after a few outings, it was ok but I’m tall and the lack of headroom annoyed me. Replaced with a Nordisk, its better but all sub 1kg tents have numerous limitations.
For me anything over 1.5kg all in is too heavy for bikepacking or walking.
Tent is for crappy weather or midge infested zones, other wise I use my tarp, my old one had cover for two, weighed less than a big bag of crisps but was a bit too noisy in high wind so I have replaced with what looks like a copy a of Trail Star tarp that cost next to nothing and passed the basic garden test but has yet to see real action.
pb2Full MemberAnd yes they are as ugly as you know what – not recommended for domestic bliss or style gurus but they are good and similar in design philosophy as the Linn Isobariks
pb2Full MemberWhen money was easy and I didn’t have 3 kids and a mortgage I gave a certain Mr Richard Dunn a lot of my folding stuff and by return he gave me a pre amp, two mono block amps plus two and a pair of these bad boys complete with a pair of stands that wouldn’t look out of place in a Sheffield forge. Paired with an LP12, a Pink Triangle power supply and a pair of Audio Technica electrostatic headphones I managed to escape the stress of life on a regular basis.
pb2Full MemberThese https://www.alpkit.com/products/koulin-trail-tights-mens. They are worth every penny and them some. Ron Hills are relegated to biving and decorating 🙂
pb2Full MemberI loved my Flux, twas the first in the UK, I bought one of the demo bikes direct from Dave following the Inter Bike show in Vegas. It was it was too quick and nimble for my clumsy “skills” There was some thing right about Turners (there still could be but I’m out of the loop). Back then the 5 Spot was the best all round bike, I moved on from Turners to Intense, one of the worst decisions in all my years of biking. As you can see I’m nostalgic about old Turners.
pb2Full MemberCup-tea-storm-in 🙄
If I am going to be outraged and angry then there are plenty of serious issues like homelessness, tax evasion, underfunding of the NHS etc that give me more reason. I really cannot get excited about a footballer in questionable fancy dress.
pb2Full MemberYes and it was great fun, after quite a bit of haggling we got lots of top quality stuff for a fraction of inferior new stuff.
pb2Full MemberHad it for over a year, had 10 or more physio sessions which helped but did not fix it, I suspect I over did the physio to start but regular light exercises and rest have got it under control but think its going to be with me in background mode for some time
pb2Full MemberMy parcel was too big to fit in the original drivers vehicle (10*10*5cm – the parcel, not his vehicle) so they’ve given it to a different driver with a bigger vehicle…
They put bigger parcels in their jacket pockets 🙄
pb2Full MemberBinners that link is the funniest thing I have seen in years, thank god I’m working from home today, I was doubled up laughing at some of those. 😀
pb2Full MemberDoesn’t matter if its second, third or fourth hand, VAT is applicable. From memory certain classes of antiques (over a 100 years old) were vat exempt. If you decide to ask the sender to lower the declared value you will reduce your tax burden but increase your risk if anything happens to the bike in transit or if it fails to turn up.
I regret to say there is no easy way around this.
pb2Full MemberThey are compulsive liars — they cannot help themselves, its the default setting for all their problems, lie and then lie again. Come they day of reckoning they will be first against the wall 😆
pb2Full MemberI happen to think he is very funny when he is in the groove. Watched him do the first 20 mins of a set in Oxford from the sound engineers booth and then he took over some guys invalid scooter for another section, totally random but funny as hell
pb2Full MemberDo it and if I could give you the credits they said they would give me for screwing up I would be delighted to pay for the collection — A collection addressed to yourself would be the ultimate spoof —- please please do it 🙂
pb2Full MemberGreat idea OP, I kinda knew were this might go as MH are fine until it goes wrong and then they lie and lie and lie. They really don’t give a toss, I’m am convinced their business plan allows for X% failures and therefore why spend time and money trying to resolve built in failure. Concentrate on getting the other 95 or 96% there roughly on time and in one piece.
I’m sure if I ran a huge business pumping >£500k or more business through MH I might get a better level of service but for mere Joe Public its a pure lottery as to whether it will arrive.
My latest brush with them had them claiming the parcel was still out for delivery — see your tracking info they say —- when the parcel was right next to me having been returned to me earlier without any prior notice.
When I would not back off they conceded it had been returned because they had made 3 attempts to deliver and couldn’t. I had the the guy buying the stuff conferenced in to the call. I asked when had they tried, big silence then they came up with one random date, why no card lefts, more silence. I pushed on and then some genius said they could not deliver the parcel for security reasons 😕
What security reasons we both wondered, I’m sorry we cannot discuss security with you —- catch 22 —-. They then sent me a message saying how pleased they were to have resolved my problem 🙄
They are without doubt the least trustworthy business I have dealt with in many years, I understand Yodel run them close but honestly avoid them like the plague unless you have a defined regular route that works and then hope and pray the drivers don’t change.
pb2Full MemberBig thanks to one and all, new wheel set is my Christmas present from me to me 🙂
pb2Full Memberok further reading has ruled out the Rekon, I might have to raid the kids piggy banks for a Maxxis – I really hope not but whats the point of spending thousands on a bike and then running ill suited tyres ?
pb2Full Member2.6″ would ok I think.
Just looked the price of the fat Maxxis and had to go and clean my specs before returning to see – yes they are a staggering £70 plus. Has any one experience of the Rekon’s. Tread pattern looks a bit Hans Dampf(ish) but I suspect the lugs are not as big/deep.

pb2Full MemberCheers guys, my 29 2.3″ Magic Mary came from bikeR2 in Germany, price was good, item in stock and delivery was ok at 6 or 7 euros. I like NN on the rear in dry conditions but they just don’t grip on steep grassy/muddy hills in the lakes.
pb2Full MemberMagic Mary in the soft Addix compound — best I have used so far and god know I have tried a few
pb2Full MemberMr Coopers is anything but cheap and the portions are, well minimal. No doubt its decent food but they don’t do set menu’s and by the time you have added some form of spuds and a veg to your mains your £20 has gone and is not coming back. No starter, no pud and no full stomach 😐
pb2Full MemberStupidest comment ever!
If Brunel designed bikes they would likely be the most stupendous things and you could pass them on to your grandchildren in perfect working order. Why thank you.
I can only assume you are not au fait with the look of Tony Elsworth 4 bar linkage (especially the earlier ones) ? My reference point was totally visual and had nothing to do with the function or the expected lifespan of any Elsworth bike.
Just in case you struggling to get your head round the link to the look of a bridge made from steel girders try the link below and then reflect on the question the stupidest comment ever 😉

pb2Full MemberPb2 – I seriously thought Chris King hubs were the best you could get bar none…?
They were a pain, to start with the Shimano cassette would not tighten down, got loads of flack on here from people who had never used them saying I must doing something wrong etc. Then I got confirmation from CK that I required a special spacer 🙄 Then they needed servicing more than other high quality brands and you had to find a bike shop that had a bunch of special CK tools which bumps up the hassle factor and cost.
DT Swiss, American Classic and Hadley were all excellent and far better value and the Hadley looked and sounded better and never required servicing in two years.
pb2Full MemberOhh and Chris King, had headsets and hubs, headsets were ok, hubs a bit disappointing but sooo expensive without any real reason and Ellsworth because their designer was Isambard Kingdom Brunel
pb2Full MemberIntense, the worst bike I have ever bought, shit quality control, actually no quality control compounded by the fact it took them 4 months to exchange the defective frame. A triumph of style and bullshit over function.
Orange, I have never sat on one let alone ridden one but good god their full sussers offend my eyes, they look shit and I am being kind. There are better looking tractors in the fields and tbh quite a few combine harvesters look more elegant. That said they are honest bikes and I would have one long before any Intense.
ohhh and anything with a Lefty fork, fugly and then some.

When first class tickets on the train make senseI hope I never get round to thinking that way
pb2Full MemberWhen some skinny druggy and his thick set mate give you a good looking over and then decide to mug you 😯
Fortunately I was faster up 3 flights of the NCP stairs then they were, drove away shaking with relief, woke up angry and frustrated that no matter what I think, I am old and the majority of my best days have been & gone.
pb2Full MemberVery tempted by the RS but is money is proper tight so more likely go for the S. From what I can see the frame, brakes, forks and rear hub are different for a weight saving of 0.6kg which for a cool grand doesn’t sound like a lot of difference and most importantly the wheel set appears to be the same if you ignore the faster engagement of the RS rear hub.
An option is to buy the S and then save up and upgrade the wheel set, does anyone know the weight of the S & RS wheel set, if you do I would be grateful if you could let me know, thanks Paul
pb2Full MemberEric Bristow is as thick as brick and no where near as useful. The thing that concerns me is he felt it ok to tweet what he did. He must mix with some right toxic idiots 🙄
pb2Full MemberQuote of the day prompted by the vile Katie Hopkins saying she will move to America if Trumps wins and Miley Cyrus saying she will leave if he wins.
Miley Cyrus is a woman who gained fame by wiggling her arse provocatively. Katie Hopkins is a woman who gained fame by speaking out of her arse provocatively. 😀
pb2Full Member£230 is silly,if you want British artisan clothing without pissing your money away try this lot.
http://communityclothing.co.uk/about-us/
£65 gets you 13.5oz selvedge denim hand made in the north west.
pb2Full MemberI have been at this lark for about 12 years now and had some very good bikes for example a Turner Flux (straight out of Interbike in Las Vegas) and some utterly shit ones – Intense 6.6 anyone ? plus plenty of decent bikes like my Trek Fuel 9.8
I have never had more fun and ridden as well as I do today on my Canyon Dude rigid but please don’t go 1 x 11 unless the big cassette cog is 45t or more or you are a genuine racing whippet. My Dude is 2 x 10 and thats allows me to get up silly inclines even loaded with bivi kit.
ps you will be frightened by how fast you can go on one
