605 and 705 fine cycle computers.

If you need maps go for the Oregon with 1:50K OS maps. It has the sports features as well.

Gone for a oregon 450 + 50K OS discovery mapping + bike mount + case

    Results
My search initially focused on the hardware but I soon realized it was the mapping that was the really important part. Oregon also supports all the sport add ons.

450 is exactly the same as 550 without the camera. Dont get taken in by topo maps. A quick search of the forms showed how really bad they are. Invest in OS maps and the online free ones.

Is topographic worth having? I like the idea of the 3d view for planning etc.with the 3d.

Can anyone comment on the download software. I see it links with google and you save and plan your trips before you leave then upload to GPS. Then you can down load with geo tagged picture – looks good I have seen this online. Feature I want.

I am after a GPS. I have the gramin etrex. Was thinking of 550t
    https://buy.garmin.com/shop/shop.do?cID=145&pID=26876#specsTab
Says 10,000 points and 200 saved points.

I want to store a whole weeks of riding on the GPS and get it to help navigate me around Italy – Tuscany. I like the idea of using the camera to geo tag my pics so U can up load to FB etc. Would good for passing MTB trails to. Its the map and navigation I want. Anyone got a recommendation? I have maps and can map read but want to treat myself to the ease of in bike sat nav LOL 🙂

I like the 550t because it has a larger viewing area. I note the edge. Topo maps also preloaded so saves a huge amount and I see the price £317 looks good or 375 including all the UK national parks. Handy.

oh agree about the erosion but some places and gates need sorting to improve the flow. I enjoy the more rocky ride especially in the winter as its not a mud fest. Just think nothing much has happened in terms of development. Got an up lift 🙂

Yup agree Croc – sometimes too many righteous mountain bikers and walkers TBH. Pity we cant all just live together.

Cmwcarn and Afan both good in their own ways. Do the black loop at the top of Cmwcarn and loop back up on the fire road. I think the climb is the hardest but great downhill after that, get in the big ring and get the speed up and its a great run.

Both Afan and Cmwcarn need a fair bit of repair. Cwmcarn could be a mecca for MTB'ers from Bristol I never understood why they haven't developed it more. Loads of us travel across for a quick spin. Loads of potential.

A few branches don't make a conspiracy besides its meant to be mountain biking which to me implies its off road and you should expect the unexpected. 🙂 including horses and riders or whatever.

best route I know all bridleway (nearly) You wont be near any live firing areas at all. Not much around Everleigh, would bother.

start just North of Grately – follow Roman road SW then right to Boscoebe village

Boscombe village go north on bridleway to Boscombe Down West – (west end of Boscombe down airfield runway, cant miss it 🙂

Go NE under A303 towards Shipton Bellinger

Shipton Bellinger go east on to top of the ridge and go North towards Tidworth until A3026.

You can go straight across here its all MOD exercise area no live firing and head NE over the hill towards jnct A342/A346 where you pick up the trail under the old railway bridge to Collingbourne woods

    enjoy 🙂

Bulford ridge is worth the climb for the view if nothing else, ride along the top then bear right in to the woods at the NE end for good trails then down to Shipton Bellinger.

Just keep on past the airfiled to a303, straight across a303 (carefully) on to trail. Sharp right up road at the end of trail back up hill towards a303. trail to Bulford ridge on your left alongside the wire fence after 400m. Follow nose up hill to top of ridge. Great blast along the top.

+1 for Zesty – 714 here. I demoed a Stumpy and liked it a lot. It was the bike I was going to buy. But TBH I thought that the ride was a little dull. Its a very safe bike to ride. One you can throw your leg over and ride well. But then I rode a Zesty and it was like chalk and cheese. The Zesty is a far more engaging ride. Relentlessly fast. Demands to be ridden to the limit. When you look at the stumpy and Zesty frame geometry you will realize they are very similar except the Zesty chain stay length is longer meaning it is more stable down hill. Therefore faster and just more WOW factor all round. As I said there is nothing wrong with Stumpy.

+1 for not going alone in mountains. Go with a group and make sure your insured E111 dont cover emergency rescue.

nope I am Mountain Leader qualified and I certainly think the are needed. I have insurance cover including Europe to cover my adventure activities. Get air lifted from a mountain in Europe and see what bill you get hit with. Search and Rescue (SAR) which is what is in the picture is funded centrally, they are RAF. So clearly the model of central funding is already in place. It just needs expanding to include Air Ambulance. When we are in financial difficulties we should prioritize our funding. I cant see why such a commonsense approach is wrong?

I don't think they are hilarious your taking it personally. This is about medical need in an emergency and where we should spend the money. I think routine non emergency treatment is less of a priority than the emergency service air ambulance provides. And I would add that I am not medically qualified to make such choices but in society I am allowed to contribute to the debate.

My view is we pay enough already it should be free at the point of delivery. The alternatives are charity or follow the European model and pick the bill yourself.

Dont agree with paying extra insurance. We already pay national health insurance so it should be free.

Where do you think the money is going to come from? The NHS helicopter fairies?

I think it will come from redirecting money away from less important cosmetic operations towards life saving services. Unless you think that boob jobs or sex change is a good use of tax payers money?

strange that the very people looking after our national assets who should be encouraging access try to limit it. Damage from sport use in FC areas has to be zero compared to the damage they leave when thinning or logging. Why limit an area to 6 events a year? Looks like an arbitrary number plucked from the air without any science behind it.

people need to wake up and look after themselves.

Police in Bristol are not that interested. Bristol bike fest zero interest. If you were the bike czar bobby wouldn't you know about and turn up bike events in the area to publicize the crime issue and prevention? Or am I just being absurd?

    +1 Zesty

done the Wales black mountains, Brechfa, Cmwcarn, Afan, CRC marathon Bluith, FOD, Bristol bike fest. Marin rough ride 75km next the 100km trailbreak following week.

Light 140mm is what you want the rest would be far too much bike and too heavy.

+1 sorting is the transition area.
+1 for not using the crossing as a transition area just adding to confusion
+1 sort clear exit from transition.

but hey I still enjoyed it.

Probably not good enough for this sort of organised theft I fear, and waaaay more targeted than just emptying a boot/roof rack into a van and driving off.

Balls, mines insured home and away and bikes were nicked OFF cars not the ones locked in boots. Lock your bike IN the car and it must be locked to the car as well for the insurance. True, mine could still be nicked but I have limited the damage through insurance and I suspect made it too difficult for such thieves.

A lot of the – oh why don't the organizer/someone else do something smacks of the nanny state. Time for some to stop bleating and blaming others and look out for yourselves.

Take ownership of the problem and lock it in the back of your car. I dont leave mine unattended its under my ass or in the boot. So to speak 😛 I see the same on the way back from events at service stations etc Owners inside at Costa bike on car in open?

Security and gate checks etc? No thanks, ruin the atmosphere, take ages to enter leave and entry fees goes up so some people can leave their bikes in the open? Nah thanks.

STW can be a great place for info Ollie, hope your succesful in hunt for Zesty.

pawnstar 🙂 think you need to look at rebound and compression? I run 80psi for 12 stone. Set the psi to your REAL weight including camelbak etc. Then adjust rebound/compression on a trail and adjust to suit. Also depends on tyres and psi. If its fit cartridge fox some say they are slightly less sensitive but way better overall fork.

Your right should be starting to bed in after 100 miles. I have had mine since Jan and its only been the last month or so that they feel fully bedded in. Not a lack of riding either – been to trail center at least once a week minimum and CRC marathon etc.

… front forks a bit flexy, especially on small buzz/bumps.?

15mm through axle on mine so flexy – nope. 2010 Fox superb fork. If you want enduro style riding go Spicy, cant think anyone in UK needs Froggy LOL

Try Niitrvana cycles at Peaslake they have a demo bike. North downns area great for a test to and not that far from you.http://www.nirvanacycles.com/

secure LOL check post 14. Admin post later on is just a crap excuse. Security should be checking vans and taking registration although if it was this organized I expect they had false plates.

Bike always goes inside the car and its locked to the car to meet the home and way insurance. I found it provides piece of mind when parking at cafes etc on way home.

CR marathon wasn't technical but the speed you can travel at in some parts made up for that. If I want groomed trails I'll head to Afan or Brechfa.
