Think you need to analyze yourself. Strength, weaknesses, qualifications. What can you reasonably achieve and what style of life do you want. Casting around for other peoples ideas is just as likely lead to failing to achieve what you want. I changed what I was doing about 8 years ago after a long look at myself and what I wanted and where I wanted to be. Now where I predicted I would be and am very happy. But I did it after a good look at me, warts and all. I was honest about what I would be happy doing. I set some goals to change the situation that I worked towards.

Looking at the options through Pawsy Bear specs I personally would avoid those that didnt leave me time to do what I want. I chose my job on the one that gave me control over how I worked and I can allocate time as I want. Maybe that is the key. Being in control?

I think thats what most people are telling you in the above. There is no magic wand or solution each one is only applicable to that person in that circumstance for their goals and needs.

2.3 8) I have no problems going up hill 🙂

you need to drop the weight but keep the power up. Weight loss dont equal loss of power, quite the reverse. Get pushing 100kg reps in the gym. At 75kg I push 90 – 100kg in reps. Makes for great power. Add a good dose of cycling ofc. I also think the cadence for mtb is different from road. So while road is fine there is no substitute for say laps of Cmwcarn etc.

change your power to weight ratio mate. You need to loose weight, no brainier. It will be the quickest speed increase up hill. Secondly hit the gym and get some extra strength in your legs. Gym is good because you can target the areas you need to improve and it produces quicker results than simply doing more miles. Do some core stability exercises as well.

After being on tubed for years and finally switching since Jan this year I certainly dont see UST as heavier. I think they spin up faster and they roll so much better at even lower pressure with significantly more grip. Keep focused on performance boost than gram loss. I am a convert. Cant think the few grams your trying to save is worth the hassle. There are other ways of loosing a couple 100grams.

I use Dakota 450 with its large touch screen is great with gloves and 1:50k OS mapping. Brilliant and it has HR and cadence capability.

I just use LUST HR and track pump – far less faff than trying to get non UST tyre to inflate and dont cost anything in CO2 carts. Why the desire to bodge that ends up costing you more? 🙄

I moved here last Oct. Its great place. The traffic is bad though at peak times. If your commuting go by bike. I drove once to work the day I started. Never driven since. It would take another hour or more each day in a car. Try Bradley stoke. Easy cycle to Filton and 5 mins your in the Cotswolds to the North. Cmwcarn in 40 mins max, hour to Quantocks, Afan 1:30 😆 Nice area.

A lot of people cycle to work. Commuting by car makes no sense.

Ok research time Dr Pawsy bear wheel rim consultant!

    819 mavic
    Width: 23.5mm
    Profile: 21mm
    Hole: 32
    weight 26": 475 grams
Recommended tire widths: 1.50 to 2.30

    XT Shimano
    Rim Height 21mm
    Rim Width 23.3mm
    Recommended Tire 26 x 1.50-2.25

So Dr Pawsy Bear concludes that:

    1. There is no difference in rims, Mavic is 0.2mm wider which is technically a gnats kacker so doent count 😆
    2. Only difference is Mavic = 32 spoke Shimano = 24 So guess there is a difference in rim design because spoke number is different?

We have therefore reached the limit of Dr Pawsy Bear knowledge envelope.

Dakota 450 here, brilliant for navigating and you can get it to show turns (arrows) on tracks.

Wonder if the rim makes a difference mines XT maybe a bit wider or shallower or something? Run Advantage 2.1 on rear. Just a thought.

GEDA I am 75kg so your a middle weight. I use maxxis LUST Highroller 2.35. TBH I can see no way of causing a pinch puncture with UST. I hit everything square on at full speed black runs the lot. There has to be another reason for the puncture?

Something is definitely amiss here. I would suspect that the tyre is burping when you hit the rock or the valve and the rubber seal are not seated or fitted correctly? Maybe a tyre defect? Basically you cant pinch puncture.

I had one puncture of a rocky track about 5 months ago and it didnt pinch puncture it tore a hole right through the tyre. Not the side wall. Sealant was great it slowed the air loss so I didnt lose it on the corner through sudden loss of air.

I run 20 – 25psi no issues with Maxxis HR or Advantage and how can you pinch puncture a UST?

Dakota 450 here with OS 1:50k GB maps. Excellent device with loads features. Works like a conventional car sat nav showing you turns to make etc on routes. Large touch screen is brilliant. Easy to use and built tough. Kids now love geocahcing but thats another story LOL Good fun if you enjoy a bit of navigating. Can be sued in car to.

Go for Endura 3/4 long. I find its better to have the water run off and they dont flap about. Longs tend to get soggy at the bottom. Waterproof longs makes you too hot.

Endura and merino. Waterproofs make you sweat and damp. I like to stay cool. Layer up as required, I go for good quality breathable kit always. Just use fewer layers in good weather and more in cold – simple, effective and cheaper in the long run.

anyone he sat around waiting to be given work wouldn't be in my employment very long. People should be able to work to direction and goals and show a bit of initiative or business acumen in whatever area you are in.

Worst case make lists, contact some local outdoor ed centres and go and see,

I would have used my initiative and developed the work based on my knowledge of my bosses intent, aims or goals. I think that he has made that very clear in his reply. Start working like your in the team with the same goal. Don't wait to be told.

I would also rectify the gaff straight away by explaining that I got it wrong and should have been developing the work already given to me in line with the previous direction from my line manager. I would apologize in person to both. Go and see the MD now then email boss. You need to defuse the situation and don't get in to email ping pong.

thinking ahead is purely a man skill.

from the number of blokes who unwittingly lose their families to divorce 'cos they can't keep their flies done up I'd say that wasn't a man skill at all, really.

Interesting how we get from a a super market queue to infidelity – know as many women stray. Ha the mind of women.

Why do women…..when at a supermarket checkout look surprised, when having had all the shopping scanned, they are asked to provide some method of payment?

Yeah I've pondered that one. Where's their allegedly great multi-tasking when you need it?
    Posted 2 hours ago # Report-Post

I too ponder this endlessly at the checkout. I have often thought it has something to do with their requirement to think of everything in terms of guilt. Guilt over having spent so much on food and the thought it will do to their figure? Ofc thinking ahead is purely a man skill.

Go UST – non UST require compressor if they will even go up.

Try Maxxis High Roller 2.3 front Advantage 2.1 rear with sealant – no punctures this year so far 🙂 Mine like yours go up easy with track pump – no faff.

+1 Zesty has 140mm travel. Would seem the better option and the angles are very similar to the Stumpy. Very stable downhill. Would you notice the 20mm difference between it and the Spicey? I think not given your riding.
