    My thoughts lawman91 exactly being a mere mortal.

    The solo was also great bike but the I needed more bb clearance and travel. I wasn’t convinced that the Solo would tackle Alpine riding as confidently as the Bronson. UK riding I think it would be superb.

    Might want to check the SC site for guide line shok pressures I get the feeling shops are setting them on sag alone. For me the suggested starting pressure is 170psi. Quite high when I only run 135psi on the Zesty

    Having had a carbon Zesty for nearly 5 years I think carbon is as bomb proof as anything. There is also a distinct difference in the ride between alu and carbon. I know which I prefer.

    Not sure why people aren’t happy with the SC Bronson spec? You can have it built up from the frame to your spec? Sent the bike shop a complete list specifying every part. Saves buying twice. Guess it pays to research your purchase first.

    Plus one for you will find out on a demo. Spent a lot of time narrowing down the numerous bike based on geometry that works for me. Spent day half on SC Bronson C and that convinced me it was the bike for me. It’s the ride that counts. Currently still riding a 2010 Zesty which I will keep while waiting for delivery of SC but my Zesty is still a great bike. I thought I’d just replace it with a 2014 model. But on demo I just didn’t get on with it. It was too long in the top tube for me and chain stays were too wide for my pedalling. So try before you buy and ignore the forum twaddle about price, industry hype, over biked etc etc It’s the ride that counts and were all different.

    Trails are the sam and more of them. Cafe is as good as ever in fact still one of the best. So a few trees have gone. It’s a working forest. I enjoy the new final down, now two of them, as much as dark side with trees.

    I’d recheck the security on garage or shed. They could be back for more. Your right they some how connected your bikes and address somehow unless it was random burglary. Someone around there is a bit handy as they also stole the plate compactors from the trail site sometime ago

    You can email I have gpx of route its better than the one on that site. And clockwise is best.Mine cuts back through the forest on the west. Its fire road climbs but you get a great descent once you get to the top. Cuts out road.

    I’d want to a demo a few before I made my mind. Buying un ridden may lead to tragic waste of money?

    I look at Boardman bikes and they are lighter and better spec? http://www.boardmanbikes.com Pro spec carbon 7.55kg. Makes merc look heavy.

    I have a second hand carbon team. Great bike. Will be buying another. I ignore that they are sold through Halfords.

    Rate Afan as it has miles if fast trails. More bang for you drive buck. Best cafe as well. Skyline cycles have always been helpful.

    Surely its more about keeping his interest in the sport? Let him decide and develop rather than tell him what he should or shouldnt do? If its what he really wants why not, Im sure it can do no harm.

    from someone who has retired early and spent yesterday in the sun at bike park Wales. Dont fool yourselves about pensions they do work and are very much well worth having to save for. Anyone telling you not to has never retired. A £1000 per year for the rest of your life is a very good start build on it.

    I dont ride on the trees I ride on trails. Plus one for dry trails.

    timc I think Afan is still one of the best mate. Why? Lots of great long trails and they ride fast all weather. I rode Bike Park Wales today. Not a trail center but well worth a visit for a day.

    I didn’t leave the house when it happened to me. Told her she should leave. I kept the house and the kids. Don’t leave your house and family. She wants a new relationship she can leave and move in with the new guy. Whatever you do think very carefully before you commit to anything financial. Let your head rule not your heart.

    I don’t think having fired off our total deterrent of 144 warheads on the subs that we need worry about reloads

    Pawsy_Bear

    Ernie the number of missiles is irrelevant. Media red herring because following the 1998 Strategic Defence Review, the number of warheads per Trident II D5 missile was limited to 3 warheads (and 48 warheads in total per submarine). Each missile has a MIRV (multiple independently-targetable re-entry vehicle) capability which enables each Trident missile to engage multiple targets simultaneously. The number of submarines is known and the number of their tubes per sub is also a known. An enemy and me would assume worse case scenario and that each tube has a missile and that rightly it is armed with a number of warheads upto 48. We only have one sub on station at any time. So even I can guess what the actual number of missiles armed and ready to go is. In a time of tension we would sail all three and we have three times our normal capability.
    Here is all the detail from UK government including number of warheads

    http://www.publications.parliament.uk/pa/cm200506/cmselect/cmdfence/986/98605.htm

    Bottom line – 48 nukes hitting anyone’s country will make an awful mess.

    I cant see what point your making and those quotes also are misleading if you scrutinize the evidence that is in the public domain?

    Guess Ernie isn’t speculating or basing his information on the internet drivel? One thing I’m sure of is that HM government always, rightly, refuses to discuss how the nuclear deterrent works. We don’t have air delivered weapons or tactical battlefield weapons now either. 2006 white paper https://www.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/27378/DefenceWhitePaper2006_Cm6994.pdf

    Page 23, para 4.6

    The UK’s current nuclear deterrent is fully operationally independent of the US:
    • decision-making and use of the system remains entirely sovereign to the UK;
    • only the Prime Minister can authorise the use of the UK’s nuclear deterrent, even if the missiles are to be fired as part of a NATO response;
    • the instruction to fire would be transmitted to the submarine using only UK codes and UK equipment;
    • all the command and control procedures are fully independent; and
    • the Vanguard-class submarines can operate readily without the Global Positioning by Satellite (GPS) system and the Trident D5 missile does not use GPS at all: it has an inertial guidance system. There is nothing in the planned Trident D5 life extension programme that will change this position.

    Guess Ernie didn’t believe HM government, you did read this before posting guys?

    replace rest with easy sessions. Mix up intensity and length it will help. But rest is as important as training but you dont need to take a whole day off. Rest day = gym say 5 x 5 reps easy weights 😉 +1 active recovery

    I agree about weight. But the guys choices between say a 35lbs bike and say the Bronson C is quite a bit, both pedal very efficiently but 7lbs ish extra on the trail will make a difference to a days riding. I was basing my reply on what type of riding he does, trail centres etc. I demo’d the Bronson C for day and half before committing having checked the geometry against what I knew worked for me. I’m not a weight weenie but buying without a demo? Plenty of demo events around and it’s money well spent not to make a costly mistake.

    Pawsy_Bear

    +1 for demo. Kona maybe great down hill but that weight maybe the limiting factor for your type of riding. What about second hand? You could get a lighter and as capable bike. Trail centers aren’t all down hill 🙂

    Reverb better under left bar.protects it and it’s ideal alongside shifter. Just a suggestion
