Plus 1 chew. If you put a new cassette on your going to need new chain and rings. Lot to carry over thousands of miles.

If I was cycling beyond a few thousand miles then I would factor in a drive train renewal at some convenient bike shop, they would fit it all while I grabbed some much well earned rest and coffee!

new frame, no question about it. My LBS crushed the connection on my reverb – they fitted new reverb. TBH I never saw the damaged one, they just replaced it

train back from Mach to Shrewsbury and were told by the conductor that there was ‘officially only room for two bikes per train’

its this sort of thing that really inhibits the growth of MTB/cycling. I guess the train was pretty empty. Having ridden with my MTB on German trains there’s no such petty ruling, its actually encouraged!

One puncture in about 4 years. Loads of thorns in tyres when I change them though but all sealed. I use plenty of sealant and change it every 6 months. Also change tyres every year – 18 months. If you puncture quick fix is turn bike upside down so hole is at the bottom so latex flows to it and give it a quick pump. Fixed a puncture from flint on South Downs way. Also carry a tubeless puncture kit. Used that to repair it once I got home. Very easy to use and simple.

Tubeless is just so faff free if you have tubeless wheel/rims. Most problems come from the ghetto setups. At 20 psi the tyre deforms as intended to give great grip grip and ride without the rolling resistance.

Fit a RH handed reverb under the left, works a treat and far better position. Reverb is still the best

Fly loads with bike. Takes ten mins to shove it in Evoc. Don’t let anything down no need. I recommend air in your tyres, will protect the rim. Reverb I just shove down. Planes are completely pressurised.

At check in you check in both hold and bike bags. Then take bike bag to oversize check in. Collect everything other end. Sometimes oversize stuff ends up on separate area.

You have bought sports bag for cycle extra baggage allowance (some are free on long haul but limited to 23kg) and it’s within the weight limit.. Easyjet weight limit is 32kg.

The overall strategy I adopt is to fit in with the airlines sausage system. If you do you go through no issues.

I’d say if you can manage reds in UK you can manage Valnord. Route 66 is steep but not overly technical. It’s a great run down. Hit the rocky bit with confidence and enjoy! There’s lots of other trails too none are too tight and twisty. I was on Zesty 140mm. Also plus one for singletrack safari been on few with Martin. Some good mountain bike tyres will of course help something like HR2 2.3 ideal.

For me a shorter stem helped on a medium frame. New bike was a small with same overal reach as old medium with the shorter stem. Haven’t had a problem since I sorted my geometry out. Maybe drop the saddle a bit might also help. It’s worth experimenting, trying a few different things were all different sizes.

Friend went on a trip knowing he didn’t have the money in his account to cover his end of the trip? Good friends wouldn’t have gone or would have text emailed you by now without prompting even if they couldn’t pay immediately. I would avoid so called good friend he isn’t trustworthy

All prices are an offer to treat legally and can be discussed. It’s not a case of getting something for nothing. Why not discuss the cost of a bike? He or she may become a regular customer so securing long term cash flow they may also buy accessories helmet or want a bike service. I’m sure when I go in to a car dealer or house purchase I expect to discuss the price. Yes business need to make a profit but simply refusing to discuss the price isn’t the business model for any industry. And on a point of law you can go into a super market and haggle the price of a loaf or milk (legally).

    http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Invitation_to_treat

If your in large industries no price is offered but you submit a sealed bid that’s opened along with the rest seeking to be awarded the contract. So maybe it’s time to look at your business model

Ha ha yeah. But suspension forks don’t have that long a steerer it’s only one spacer high uncut. I’m not a roadie or fat tyre bike just normal MTB 🙂 Those steelers do need cutting

Got both. The CRC one is fine just pain to pull around because it’s got a small ish wheelbase. Overall I always use the Evoc. It’s brilliant easy to pull and I can pack my unpack my bike in about 10 mins great design fully recommended. I used it some 20 times

A cycle lane as we all know isnt a guarantee of security and I used them on the commute and have been cut up on them as well.

I would still maintain it looks more like an accident than a deliberate ‘dooring’ by the passenger. How many of us look for a cyclist when we open a taxi door?

    Pawsy_Bear

Counterzero agreed in same situation he also had the option to stop? Ive had plenty of close calls from parked cars with people opening their doors or pulling out without looking or indicating. It isnt easy but under taking is suicide. Its also a taxi in London, they tend to stop and passengers get out.

    Pawsy_Bear

So the passenger opened the near side door and your mate was overtaking the taxi on the inside? Tbh it doesn’t sound intentional more an accident. Overtaking traffic on the inside is pretty dangerous and has resulted in lots of dead cyclists.

the general rule on the road is give way to the right, that’s why cycle lanes so pants I hate them as they deliver you into the traffic with no priority. Also plus poorly maintained and badly designed cycle lanes

Why do they need signs? Surely it’s common sense not to leave it unattended & unlocked in a mtb honey pot?

plus 1 – I think they require signs because its the nanny state mentality whereas the rest believe its our responsibility if it goes walkabout.

3 children through Uni all got jobs. Because they worked and paid they were always keen to attended lectures to get their moneys worth. Yes bought them lap top and few items they needed when they asked.

Overall my experience leads me to the conclusion that those funded by the bank of mum and dad missed out on the real experience of working and gaining an understanding of the worth of money when you earn it yourself and achieving a goal in life on ones own merits.
