Had a great time in BC I can certainly recommend the trails, they just flow. Came away thinking, why hadnt I gone to Canada before. Had great local guides which I think helps a lot as they could pick the right trails for the group

one advantage of self build is you get to get all the bits you like and none you dont want that you upgrade later. Upgrading is just paying for the same thing twice, hence a build is in the long run cheaper.

I have 2014 Bronson, love the bike. Great alrounder. In your above case I’d go for the 2014 model and xt kit without having to sell the basic forks etc. Pikes, XT brakes, reverb are IMHO no brainers

Lets be honest its cheaper to maintain one bike then buy a whole new one for winter and maintain that? So just ride and maintain. The slightly increased wear rate wont exceed the cost of a new bike 😉

My solution was not to sell my old road and mtb I still use them and maintain them and once they need major repair/maint they will be sold for part or whatever I can get for them.

I have of course ignored the major breach in etiquette about riding a 26″ MTB 🙂

Sledge defrosters, with all the bottoms add some endura singletrack trousers to stop water coming in the top and you will be 100% dry and warm. I used this all last year, previously had NW Arctic and 45 N. Only defrosters are 100% waterproof.

go to the shop – dealer you bought it from, they will deal directly for you. Ive had, through my LBS, good service from windwave

Waterproof shoes just fill up too

try using spech defrosters and endura singletrack trousers = dry feet

the trousers top water ingress and the boots are 100% waterproof as long as your trousers cover the boot tops.

Garmin industry leader for GPS. I use 1:50k OS. Great for using locals gpx to find the single track. Once your ploughing across the moors, note that the actual path may not follow the OS map exactly. I use mine as a guide. Then get my head up and select the trail.

Easy answer – dont buy the biscuit’s and crap in the first place. No temptation then also saves you money.

    3 Tips at no cost:

    Dont buy any processed foods

Eat little and often – right foods

    Exercise

Remember, you cant eat yourself it

turbo, gym and trail when its not raining, same for road

I found once I had bought a pair of spesh defroster boots and single track trousers I was fine for wet trails. Boots come in handy on the road to keeping me warm and dry.

from Dec to march last year I only rarely went on the road and kept up 200km per week average

Im after a new phone as well. Im clueless TBH. I want a large memory for songs and podcasts. So a Sony Xperia M4 Aqua could have a 64gb sim card that would hold my music and podcasts? I only need text and apps would be handy. Would I be still able to use Itunes? Any others I should look at?

Like the idea of waterproof as I use it on the bike

Yours completely out of his depth

I’m weighing the idea of going for a complete 1×11 upgrade replace my 9×3 (actually running 9×2) 2010 Xt drivetrain…

did that on 2010 Zesty with SRAM, just need a new rear hub, so I went for a whole new wheel but that was the easy option.

Good news everything fitted and works well. My old 3 x 9 was 5 years and well worn out. Gave the bike a whole new lease of life and enjoying many more MTB miles. Im glad I changed too, its simpler and easier and avoided the cost of a new bike.

    32t will be fine on 10 x 42

Stll have the Formula brakes they are just working and will reaplce with XT. I have one set of pads to go!

I appreciate the extra ground clearance of the Bronson, I’d agree with Tom above. As lots have said, it’s what how you ride. Trail centres I’d go 5010 off piste, Bronson.

I’d have to drive 25 mins to nearest Halfords. I use my LBS, but only for the stuff I can’t fix. I’m a regular so he often provides extra and or discount without asking. If your drop in then I guess it costs more.

about right, TBH I’d straighten that myself and indexing is 2 min job. Maybe learn how to then save your money.

Dropped 4k on Zesty in 2010, still ridden now and a much loved bike.

Im not sure that its the total cost more the capability I buy,

    Pikes
    XT brakes
    X0 drive train
    Reverb
    XM Gobi (fits my rear)
    carbon bars
    Lock on grips
    XT trail pedals
    Tubeless
    Maxxis tyres
Carbon wheel set – yes expensive but OMG so light and fast 😉

so I tend to buy the frame and build up, all pretty standard stuff I guess

What are you uncertain about? Going on booze session? I have a pacemaker. I certainly wouldn’t be going on a heavy boizing session after having that. I would suggest they told you to rest and recover after the op. A sensible and responsible approach.

Depends how productive it is. Some take 8 hours to do what others do in 2. I support lower hours, but not the inefficent

My 2014 Bronson pedals up and down just fine. I like the higher bottom bracket too than the 5010 and Nomad. After three weeks in Canada I didn’t feel under biked.

Kept my 2010 Zesty, glad I did. Resale values second hand are poor. Still enjoy riding the bike. My daughter rides it when she visits.

You tried the shock bushings from TF tuned? I’ve just put a set on after 14 months of use. They seem to make the shock smoother. This is entirely subjective I know.

Not tried the new Bronson, I’ve got the 2014. The new frame has a few small changes. Can’t see it will make a huge difference. I agere about VPP.

Rear hub is now 148 size, only really change affecting a donor build I think

Edric64 credit card doesn’t mean you have to have debt on it. Clear every month costs zero. Protects you from fraud and if you buy online the good whilst in transit to you.

Besides if a site only accepts bank transfer you’ve got to suspect it isn’t legit. Any reputable site takes credit debit PayPal

It’s about protecting yourself, not becoming a victim

Not seen any single track marked on OS maps. Find and use gpx files for the area to find the trails. If you want bridle way well then OS maps are very good

Solo looks to be a great evolution of an already great bike especially if the build kits come with 140mm pikes

    take my money!
