I don’t use the over priced hype gels. I make my own energy bars, better, cheaper and leaves no wrappers.

You can get a good price one way ticket, times have moved on. No penalty from my experience. Pictures for Indian visas changed years ago. The normal photo booths do the Indian visa photos. Best to get the online visa done asap. It’s a pain.

If you have doubts airline ticket prices just use sky scanner etc. It’s easy to fire in your requirements and get a quote.

Just buy one way and book return when you know the date?

Wouldn’t buy no guarantee they are on any way fit for purpose. They are cheap for a reason.
Most carbon parts come from china even the supposed good ones. in fact wen you head out of the fishbowl that s STW there’s an entire customer base using them all over the world, AND THEY ARE STILL ALIVE SHOCKER
Giant must make some real shit eh?

Certainly don’t have my head in the fish bowl. You misconstrue what i said. I don’t think the Giant suppliers would risk their contract by knocking out back door stuff. So that leaves those on the fringe, no warranty, no refund. Those are the ones were talking about. I certainly think that the big name brands are careful where they resource their products from. I don’t think third party or eBay sellers give a hoot.

Perfectly happy a lot of people put their money and faith in such critical parts. I just said I wouldn’t.

Never had a MTB that I could sit on the saddle and touch the ground, 5’8″ short leg. Ground clearance aka BB way more important. Stack also very important

Ben H. Don’t know the detail but when the make changes to pensions it’s normal (from my experience) that what you have already accrued stays the same. Only going forward will the average salary kick in. As I said I dont know the NHS pension change details. But I’d be very surprised if the change included back dating. What’s been earnt can’t be taken away.

Thanks for reply Sue. We get similar for funding materials. Hopefully it helps riders to understand some of the wider issues and funding routes.

We certainly have a trail fund box in the cafe :-)

We also get donations from local clubs, event organisers etc

What’s certain is if you fail to plan for your old age then your the one that’s going to take the hit. You may come to regret a cynical approach. The world in the 60s 70s 80s was no more predictable than today. You just have to play the cards your dealt.

I saved into pension scheme and bloody glad I did.

I was adding context that there are wider issues in which trail centres exist. I want talking about Swinley specifically but trail centre issues country wide. I rode Swinley back in the day of the permit. I’m certainly not aware of how there funded as part of Crown Estates? I have a year permit where I live and covers whe forest parking. £23 I think on last renewal. I think the cost of things touches on the wider debate of councils their spending and accountability. There’s certainly plenty of success stories around the country where groups are making improvements

Balls. Ha ha thank you Sir Humphrey for that clear and logical advice

But as noted by others, the money from the Swinley car park and cafe does not go back into the trails or the forest. It’s in effect already the ‘other’ car park, like parking in the council car park at Peebles, then riding to GT/Inners. It’s just a cash cow for Bracknell Council.

Your missing the point. Yes the money don’t go on trails. Same where I help. But the car park owners and cafe owners often give large donations as does the people organising the event. If they don’t make money they won’t invest in the facilities at the centre. The cafe and car park owners know their income is coming from the MTB. If you park, eat coffee elsewhere then your not helping. Money isn’t going to build trails therefore ….. I avoid paying.

Sorry but it’s short sighted views like this that are having a damaging affect.

By going and using the trails cafés etc we make trail centres more popular and business etc thrives. I don’t go to them every day but when I do I pay car parking fee and buy coffee etc. I help dig at our local trail centre and it dosent help when people park off site annoying locals who are then more difficult to persuade about the benefits of more trails. Think about what impact your having.

    Early retirement.
MTB and road cycling trips abroad.
    Carbon bikes.
    Bike maintenance.
    Coffee.

    The rest I just waste

42t ring is alloy. Means your spending most of your time in granny ring and bad chain line. Change to 30 or 28t front ring. Or just get fitter :-)

Think fit is more important than the brand of bike. I’d check my seat post isn’t to high, reach to long, seat etcTry some different changes to the setup. I’d agree FS is a better option than HT.

I still ride my 2010 Zesty. Great bike remains a great bike although it’s been converted to 1×11. A fat bike from my short test ride wasn’t fun in sketchy mud. In the dry, sand rocks would be just great fun. Typical English moor or forest meh

I’ve got a set of DHF/R very good tyres. Go to tyres for say up lift, Alps etc. Tough, superb grip. In tacky conditions I found they didn’t clear as well as HR. Both have similar tread patterns, HR is just more open and clears better plus they are a lot lighter.

HR for everything else. I have had a Hans Damf on the back for the last few months. IMHO the highroller is better. Going to try it on the front over the summer, Ardent rear on Brondon.

I use my boot, trap the tyre on the floor and push the wheel away with a twist. This breaks the seal easy. You can do the same to get the tyres on without using a tyre leaver.

Priorities, should we spend more on infrastructure or NHS or social welfare. No idea. If there was an easy answer to success then I’m pretty sure the politicians would take it. Even the experts disagree.

I’m sure that we should do something about the deficit.

Use some cream, basic skin cream will help a lot. I always invest in good padded bib shorts. Bibs keep them in place, more comfy.

Mongolia, I wouldn’t recommend unless you like endless plains, check the photos. It was pretty barren and featureless. My son was a teacher there for two years.

Ofc it all depends what your looking for.

Nickjb your right but this is long term and I’d agree that interest rates are going to stay low for some time. But if your on the edge at today’s rates with two incomes until your 70? Good luck with that plan.

I made a decision a long time ago not to have a huge mortgage and bought affordable. Has meant we enjoyed our life rather than being stuck in huge property. Has also meant I’ve retired early. There’s more to life than a mortgage. You can choose another path.
