It was an excellent event, almost mini festival feel to it. The course was fantastic, and I will be back next year. The sunset from the very top of the course was fantastic, and I agree about the toughest bit being the wee chalk climb above the camp site.
The singletrack through any of the wooded sections was amazing!

It’s the price you pay for being an early adapter peeps! Remember how much a digital camera used to be, or a Betamax video recorder…

Andy, drop me an email dude.

In the shops in November guys and gals. 11/36 cassette will retail for approx £240…

    And the brakes are awesome.

    Is that info for me?

SLX felt very wooden in comparison with my other Shimano brakes; new XT and old Saint. Didn’t rate them at all, so seem to be swimming against the tide of opinion here.

The Elixir is the direct replacement for the Juicy which will only be available as on OE brake from now on (Juicy 3.5 which is a Juicy 3 caliper and Juicy 5 lever assembly). It’s a far better brake; more powerful and lighter. I’m hanging on for the Elixir Mag CR’s though. Due in July!

Lightweight = Nobby Nic front, Racing Ralph rear. Perfect for summer trails.
Hardcore = 2.35 High Roller front, 2.1 Larsen TT rear.

What’s the point in having a car like that if you don’t send it on once in a while, especially on a track.

    Not jealous though…

I’m entered in a team of 3, however I had to take one of the team to hospital last night after a major stack riding round Ashridge.
He assures me he’ll be ok though.

SLX’s felt wooden compared to my 09 XT’s mate. Noticeable difference in feel.

To me the decent thing for IWH to do, seeing as he has access to a computer but not a Post Office/Courier, is to Paypal the money back to anyone who wants it on the proviso that he will hold the goods they want, and post the goods to them once his personal life is back on track. Soon hopefully IWH, so best of luck to all involved.

Some very good info on this thread. I’m on my 2nd set of Pro2 and 819’s; been running tubeless for a couple of years now but always UST specific rims and fancy a lighter UST set now. The 819’s took 2 weeks of uplifts with Riviera Bike and I know I don’t need a heavier wheelset for my riding. The question is how light to go? Really like the 09 Crossmax SX’s but they’re ‘only’ really 300g lighter at about 1750g, and now you’ve got me thinking about the Stan’s rims with the strips…Or the Crossmax SLR which has a 20mm front hub now…Anybody got any experience with the SLR’s?

Check out the small print where it says that you have to change the bike between guards carriages @ 05:00 in the morning if you’re travelling to Fort Bill from the South.

    05:00!

The thin cardboard overlay for the rubbery Spectrum 48K keyboard…

I’m getting all misty eyed here.

I was looking at the Mavic Crossmax SX’s, but am now seriously thinking of the Roval Traversee wheelset. Only thing holding me back is that they’re not UST specific. Not 100% about rim strips.

Maybe anger was a bit strong, but you were annoyed.
I thought it was a great vid. Loved the style, and had missed it the first time someone posted it. I appreciate that the SAR teams do a sterling job, and I appreciate your opinion.
Think of the extra publicity this particular emergency service will receive thanks to this vid; remember the old maxim, “there’s no such thing as bad publicity”, and enjoy the fact that we’ve both contributed to it!

Anyway, just finished building my new bike, and going to bed so I can get an early start on the trails tomorrow.

    Good night.

Well you obviously didn’t use that massive intelligence to move your eyes from left to right, and take in the information on his Vimeo page. You know, the bit you missed in your anger, about using the music with permission…

[quoteThis is a personal project that would not have been possible without the support of the Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service. Thanks to the entire team for their generous access during training exercises and patrols this Summer. Since the Service began in 1973, it has carried out more than 21,000 missions ranging from urgent patient transfers to dangerous search and rescue missions.

The Service depends entirely on the generous support of sponsors and the community to stay flying. Donations can be made here:

This film is 100% ‘real’, but there are some new techniques for me here, such as using time lapse to create the illusion of forward movement for the helicopter ocean scenes. These flight sequences would not be possible without the skill and patience of Chief Pilot Peter Yates. Thanks also to Trevor Cracknell (for getting wet!) and Family.

Excuse the cut and paste from the Vimeo page that the video is on. Having had personal experience of carrying a friend into an air ambulance after a 70mph motorbike accident I’m not going to trivialise the good work any emergency service provides.
Also, when I lived in Oz and surfed a lot, I appreciated the specific service the SAR heli guys provided in spotting sharks and warning us where they were.

Relax, take a deep breath, and enjoy your weekend.

I’d recommend 22/36 and the 36T bashring, but they are heavy and mine required some filing to get it to fit the Middleburns properly.

Have you considered a Gamut bashring; loads lighter than an E13.

Also, Halfords and Decathlon (French equivalent) have cancelled or put on hold all their new deliveries of bikes as they’re not selling them.

I had M4’s and now have new XT which I far prefer; better modulation and more powerful. Why don’t you just swap and see how he gets on with the XTs? If he likes them then you don’t have to buy any more!

Cheers guys. The pic was taken at about 600m looking north over Newcastle towards Belfast. Very steep descent that is uber technical (unrideable in places) and just gets faster and faster. I trashed a brand new LUST High Roller on that descent about 5 mins after the pic was taken!
This pic was taken from the south side of the Mournes the previous week. The first pic was taken from the head of the valley on the right.

I have black RS7’s and black RS8’s and they’re excellent. Go for the SKF BB’s that Middleburn now distribute if you’re an Isis man.

I have an 05 in medium and I’m just over 6′. Use it for a bit of everything, but for longer rides (over 20 miles) I’d like a longer top tube.
    Hope that helps.

Been a bit different in Belfast this last few days mate, what with the Polskis kicking off before and after the football and about 12 hijacked vehicles abandoned round the city causing traffic chaos. Even the motorway was closed.
