I am just setting up a new wordpress blog ….. Once more ….. ,

We’ll I’m a little behind where I would like to be but put in a good few miles this weekend, so hoping to recoup a few miles in the second half of the month as only managed 118 so far….. January is a busy month for me though so realistically I may struggle to get much past 400 ….. But fairly confident I can make up the annual total over summer !

Must admit though the Challenge helped my motivation last week (when I realised how far behind I was !) …….

Following the post and setting up the Endomondo challenge I thought sod the weather …… Wind and rain…… Went out on my bike …. Did 10 miles …. Got a puncture …. Got soaked…… But hey….. What the hell……. Beats having to watch emmer dale and corra !!

10 miles down….. Just 490 to go for January !

I have in my head that I’m actually targeting 6000 for the year……. That allows me to ‘miss’ a little in the winter and make it up in the summer months ….. Possibly ….;-)

I have been well pleased with my samsung smart tv too…… Red Bull TV is good, and I watch Youtube quite a lot…… It’s great to link the TV to smart phone or ipad YouTube app….. Then you can find video easily on ipad or phone and just send to tv queue …… Very handy.

I will join you on that buddy ……. I’ve managed 500 miles a month a couple of times in the last 2 years since I have started cycling ‘properly’…. Both months being on holiday……

Don’t know realistically how likely it is I will do it but a good target anyways!

You can’t go around being the headmaster / nursemaid ……. Yes I’m sure there has been the odd accident with people not knowing what they are doing ……. I’ve seen Lots of road accidents too because people don’t know what they are doing…., As someone said above it’s not really illegal…….. Worry not my friend , I’m sure all the guys here are quite sane and careful and will risk assess before they do any cutting ! ;-).

We’ll … Latest update is that we have the car back,…… But £700 (which he doesn’t have ) lighter. He was interviewed under caution by two HMRC officials …. As you may expect a good cop / bad cop …… The questioning and statement process was about 30 minutes and questions obviously designed to trick and get more info. But after the questioning and fine / release charge paid they issued documentation . He has 24 hours to drain and remove the red from the tank…. If any further is found on spot check then he’s really in big trouble and they are unlikely to release car .

After the grilling I spoke privately to the officials ….. They were happy it was his first offence and something he was unlikely to repeat. Sometimes they were saying that after questioning they hold car for further investigations if they feel they could get to source or there is a commercial gain. They seized an Audi A8 last week !

He was driving home and within 15 miles was pulled by Police again to investigate his fuel so the car is obviously on database and picked up by the number plate recognition cameras. In a way I was quite happy with that as it confirms to him that he is a marked man and he must be totally clean on anything at all to do with his car.

I thank you for the comments …… But whilst he isn’t a bad lad he is just frustratingly stupid….. He seems to have this streak of whatever that places him above the law…… He has e need up working to pay charges for unpaid parking fees, e bay charges, going overdrawn etc….. He just can’t seem to get himself sorted financially …. Hence why he was during red diesel!

No… He’s not thieving or doing really bad stuff, but I worry that he drifts down that road to get cash when he is short…… It’s hard when he has been surrounded by a work ethic all his life and we work hard for the things we have and plan and work towards what we want over time. Whilst he works hard the point I was trying to make to him this morning was that basically he has now worked a whole month for nothing just to pay this fine…. He worked for half a week to pay an unpaid car parking ticket last month £112.50 ….. All because he couldn’t be bothered to put £4 in a machine ! Then thought that Mr Teflon could ignore the letters and tickets…..

So what stresses and worries is that will he actually learn from this latest and biggest…. Or will it actually continue the cycle as he will be short of cash for a few months now….. Short at Christmas etc etc etc…..

I could cheerfully beat him with a stick.

We’ll…… Thanks fellas for all the comment and info…… I am taking my son out tomorrow to have a frank and open (!) further discussion…… Then we are off to meet with the HMRC so fingers crossed…… He’s been told on the phone that there is a £500 fine and car release fee of around £150……… If they are satisfied after interviewing him…… So once that’s over I will be glad to know what is what …. Either way.

Young people these days generally seem to lack a lot of things a generation older seemed to have…… Oh how I could go on…….. It’s been a very difficult 24 hours I must admit, and his mum is beside herself anxious and worried, upset and angry with him….. At 22 yes he really should know better ….. We have sat tonight beating ourselves up…. Bad parents? Made things too easy for him ? Been to hard on him? Not hard enough? Not seen underlying issues early? Affected by the death of his beloved Grandad? Did I spend too much time in his younger life setting up and running our business ?

Etc. etc….

Feeling incredibly frustrated and down about this and all the related issues to be honest….

After starting riding seriously 2 years ago … i was the fittest I have been since my early 20’s in the summer ( i turned 50 in September ) … but after two months off the bike I can really feel the slip in fitness….

so I’m back on it…. set up a turbo trainer in the garage …. plan is 2 evenings a week on it…. an evening out on mtb and longer (50 mile ) rides on weekends…. thats my plan for winter!

Undid the cable to lube it and found it very restricted in the last section of outer…. Inner was frayed and a strand caught up inside….. Will get a new one and fingers crossed that May be it !

the bike is 10 months old….. has had a new chain after around 1000 miles …… covered around 1600 miles in total….. cassette not really worn….

think i might remove and lubricate gear cable?

Would adjusting the B screw help with this ? Would incorrect adjustment cause the issue?

no… its not necessarly under power…. and not even consistent!…. its started dong it last week for no apparent reason!

uploading from file option and browing to the file rather than direct from Garmin seems to work ok!

I’ve emailed Endomondo twice and had no response ! annoying!

I use the HTC double dip case ….. handy for propping the phone to listen to music…. makes the most of the forward facing speakers!

And also it has a front cover screen which has proven beneficial when i inveitably dropped the phone!

32 years…. not getting any easier!

I had same …. If you don’t change chain regularly enough (I.e. Leaving it until it’s really worn) then it wears the cassette and front chain rings too……

So now the shiny new chain with round links doesn’t fit correctly into the worn other components.

If you look closely (compare to an unworn sprocket …. You will see the teeth shape will be different …… More oval……

You will need to change cassette and front ring (s) too…….

You can extende life of the next set by changing chain earlier

The winter tops and trousers are great…..mine from two years ago and last year both still going strong….. But would be rude not to get another set at the price!

Winter gloves are just brilliant at a fiver….

Merino wool base laser is only 30% merino…… Doesn’t feel great in the hand but not worn it yet…

On the whole superb for everyday wear!
