I am not a financial advisor but i do manage my ISA and SIPP via HL and spend an unhealthy amount of time looking into this stuff!

You can do lots of research, play around making mistakes, lose money and take advice from friends and you;ll probably come to the conclusion that the best thing for you to do is to invest in low fee index tracker funds. Invest regularly, don’t try to time the market and keep investing no matter what, especially during low points in the market!

The below are considered high risk but in reality represent the actual stock market as a whole.

a couple for you to look at:
    https://www.hl.co.uk/funds/fund-discounts,-prices–and–factsheets/search-results/l/legal-and-general-us-index-class-c-accumulation
This one invests in the top 500 companies in the US. If you’ve heard of the S&P500, this is an equivalent.

    https://www.hl.co.uk/funds/fund-discounts,-prices–and–factsheets/search-results/h/hsbc-ftse-all-world-index-class-c-accumulation
This invests in over 3000 of the top companies in the world, including the US so does overlap with the above somewhat.

Your current HL fund has higher costs, lower dividends and doesn’t perform as well historically. I used to have money in these HL funds until i knew a bit more about what i was doing.

To be honest, you might want to check out an ISA with Vanguard and look into their Life strategy funds. Loads of videos on Youtube about this. These funds are aimed at investors with low knowledge in this stuff and seeks to make it easy to invest in a well diversified portfolio of stocks and bonds.

If you want to do this stuff yourself, you tube is your friend!

My wife is going through this for the same reasons. she’s currently undergoing counselling and EMDR treatment.

She says the EMDR is showing immediate improvements and feels this is really helping, much more so than the counselling sessions.

It will be a long road to recovery, you just need to hang in there and support her as much as you can and understand the signs to watch out for that are triggers so you can help.

I’ve been using nukeproof pads recently and have been suitably impressed.

A lot of nukeproof hubs failed and they updated the design of the rear hub in late 2018 to cure the issue where pawls broke damaging the ratchet ring and freehub. Might be worth an email to CRC’s customer services.

Going too fast along a trail and came off the bike, landed face first into a large tree stump. Luckily the tree was that rotten it was mega soft. All I got was a mouthful of rotten wood and the joy of having my face still in tact.

Doesn’t mean the company is having cash flow “issues”. Finance people don’t like big sum of money leaving the account at once, they prefer spreading it out if possible.

Used to get it pretty frequently, normally when I was pretty run down or had been working too hard and stressed. Some sources claim it can be loosely linked to cold sores, this applies in my case as I would often get it before or soon after having a cold sore.

No cure but ibuprofen helped a bit allowing me to get a little sleep.

Crc have the ribbon for £764.

I wouldn’t describe it as stiff though. There is a little flex, which I don’t mind, but I’m 105 kg in kit. It’s about the same as a pike I reckon.

Bought a new mrp ribbon. Only got 2 rides in it but so far I’ve been very impressed.

@mickyfinn SharePoint and OneDrive, when first setup has lots of features enabled by default which are not good from a data security point of view. They are designed and enabled by default to allow staff to access the files from anywhere, by anyone and data can be shared with other external parties with a few mouse clicks and without any authoritative checks.

Reminds me of the pre-2003 Exchange servers that had every service under the sun enabled by default and was an open relay out of-the-box. It was then up to the admin to secure it. Microsoft reversed this posture for later versions of exchange. I think they need to take this approach with 365 too. It’s too open in my opinion.

MFA/conditional access should be used for all accounts and IMO, should be mandatory for 365 users, not optional. I’ve personally gained global admin rights for a tenant and all I started with was a standard user account in that tenant. I won’t say how for obvious reasons. All it would take is a Phisher to get working creds and they could get global admin rights to the entire tenant, if & when that knowledge becomes available, unless Microsoft close that loophole ofcourse.

If the OP’s experience is of the NT4 era (that’s when I got into IT) then managing a VPN (server or router based) will be more familiar from a skillset point of view than setting up sharepoint in a secure way.

I agree that getting in someone who knows what they’re doing is the best way to go about this.

    PaulGillespie

SharePoint and OneDrive are still fairly weak security-wise unless MFA and conditional access is implemented…which opens another can of worms.

What firewall you using? Most will act an a VPN end point, some don’t need additional licensing either, like little Draytek routers.

we’ve used RRAS on servers for clients and configured it securely (as secure as any remote access tool). It works well, has negligible impact on the host server, VPN clinet is native to Windows and you can lock down which users can connect to the VPN. I’d also recommend you review the password policy and ensure it locks out accounts after 10 failed attempts. Repeated lockouts shows that someone’s knocking at your door! If you go down the server route, make sure the servers are patched every month, without fail.

As you;ve gathered, there’s no perfect way to get remote access to your network. Pick one that suits your requirements and secure it as well as possible. Goes without saying that you need to ensure you have good backups. Lots of ransomeware doing the rounds right now, some very sophisticated.

That’s correct Al, I almost got stung by that. If you sell one of the properties with 12 months, you don’t need to pay the tax.

I mistakenly thought it was 24 months and almost had to pay it but missed it by a couple of weeks.

If you’re happy with how it works now, why not bung in a second disk in your PC and move the file share to it. A 1TB SSD is pretty cheap these days and will be much simpler for you to manage, given your IT knowledge.

Echo the comments about backups. Even if you just manually copy to a few big usb drives in rotation. Pick a solution that you understand and stick to it.

I’ve got a couple of synchros 250 waterproof saddle bags. Size is right for what you want, well made, doesn’t rattle about, waterproof and a single strap so it’s dropper post comparable. Great wee bag.

Got some bontrager ones from Evans. Dead easy to fit and adjust. Much prefer these to the sks ones I had previously.

OP, if you’ve been using in house solutions so far, I would be very careful about jumping for an all singing all dancing PSA tool. Connectwise and autotask are broadly similar but can be complex and cumbersome to implement and manage. Perhaps try a simpler system initially, or look for a solution that will satisfy 2 or 3 or your requirements. Then once you’ve seen the potential, consider moving to something more complete. Just my experience.

For reference, we use solarwinds n-central RMM, ITGlue, Xero and are about to implement kaseya BMS as our help desk management. Here’s a link and you can get a pre recorded live demo which gives a good overview of what it can do. https://www.kaseya.com/get-started/bms-demo/

Deadkenny, I read that MS reversed their decision to scrap internal use licenses after negative feedback from partners.

Lots of systems will do what you ask, the ones I know of are IT industry specific though. Connectwise, Autotask, harmony, kaseya and many more. Costs will vary from about £20 to £70 per month.

We just got a great deal on kaseya BMS and they own it glue too, which we use.

I wasn’t impressed with the pike on my jeffsy, went for a MRP ribbon coil. 700 quid from crc. Tuneable, buttery smooth, comes with extra coils, ramp control and adjustable travel. Only 1 ride in so far but I’m really impressed.

Got 2 pairs of loake brogues, they get worn alternately every day for an office based job with a little walking involved. I need to get both resolved every year. Brown/tan ones seem to stain and need binned after about 18 months. Was hoping for better sole life TBH but not had a chance to try other brands yet.

I have a Swiss client. We just invoice them without VAT. If you’re shipping them “stuff” ask them first if they want it handled in a particular way. They need to pay VAT + import tax on items they receive but the courriers take care of that.

My forks started off with 2 tokens (140mm 29er). Rode fine but was not getting anywhere near full travel. Now riding without any tokens and it feels better and getting almost full travel on big hits. I need to run high pressure as i’m 105KG in kit. I’m sure this doesn’t help!

Mine just feel like it’s a lot of effort to get them to move freely. Pretty sure they’re under lubed so a service is in order…on a brand new fork!

I have the same issue on my 2019 pikes. So unimpressed by their performance, been looking at coil conversions!

Will give them a proper service first and see if that helps. Good to hear i’m not alone!

If you want to access your SharePoint folders just like you did though Windows Explorer, log into SharePoint online using IE, find your folder and click the “all documents” button at the side and select view in explorer. Once explorer opens, pin the link to your Quick Access bar. Not found a way to automate this unfortunately so it’s a manual process to add it.

Really don’t like teams but i’m sure it’ll grow on me as it gets updated.

I’ve been disappointed in the administrative side of 365. very easy to have security weaknesses by default and requires a lot of knowledge to set it up in a secure way. Microsoft want 365 to be easily accessible by anyone in the world anytime and make it easy to share files with outside parties. If not setup or used right, it’s a data breach waiting to happen. We found a way to get global admin access rights quite easily last week! Only a matter of time before attackers leverage it to get at your data.

Get Multi Factor Authentication setup. without it, your organisation is very likely to have a security breach due to Phishing.

give me a file server and VPN/RDS any day of the week! I’m old school though…in my 30s

Got an E thirteen on my new Jeffsy. Not had it long but feels good. Reassured that it’s fully rebuildable and is just a big coil spring inside!
