Scaredypants – I’m not sure what the cocktail of drugs are, but will try to find out.

Postie – cheers mate. Lets try to get a ride scheduled for sometime soon.

Esme – thank you for your kind words.

BL – sorry to hear about your Mrs, but it sounds as if she went with the right attitude. I’m hoping that my dad will become more accepting of what the future has install and that he’ll then try to fill his time positively. Thanks.

I’ve had numerous 26ers over the years – Orange 5, Santa Cruz Blur/Heckler/Nomad etc, but am now on a Tallboy LTc and it is by far, for me, the best bike i have ever owned. I was initially sceptical of the 29er thing, but i can honestly say they climb the rough stiff very well and with me as a pilot it descends better than Nomad C that was sold to pay for it.

Draw backs – lack of tyre choice mainly, but that seems to be improving as the months go by.

where i ride its very rocky and rooty and the bike is a blast! I can only imaging that on smooth trails it would be even better!

Isla Bike Cnoc 14/16 would get my vote. Both of my girls got their balance sorted on a balance bike and then progressed to a Cnoc 14.

The LTC rocks (help, I’m 42 and trying to sound all Street!).

SEriously, great bike. Sent mine down Garburn Pass today in the pouring rain and it didn’t put a foot/wheel wrong.

Must be good as I’m now selling my TB Carbon frame (It’s listed in the ‘For Sale’ forum if you’re interested :D

I don’t know about you guys but I’m finding it increasingly hard to hear about crimes involving kids. I’ve got two young girls and I’m becoming concerned about the world that they are inheriting. makes me want to pack up the basics and head off somewhere remote.

If you can make it up to Skagen, it’s beautiful up there at the northern tip. Worth going to see the two seas colliding with one another!

The whole place is just lovely, used to go there a lot when i was a kid. We’d stay in Juelsminde on the east coast of the mainland.

Got my matchmakers today. For new xt shifters you need the xtr mm’s (they have xt 780 stamped on them).

Using F29 140 CTD forks. Had about 5/6 rides on them and think they’re great. Noticable differnece between the settings and the mid trail setting has sub-settings of soft, medium firm. Again, noticable difference between them.

I’ve got a Speedball that I’m willing to sell on. It’s not been used for a good while, comes with the remote. Last time it was used it worked fine, but with the expected side to side slope.

Let me know if you’re interested

Had the call today from 2 wheels – mine’s coming in this Friday (in yellow) :-) I wasn’t specific about colour when i ordered having seen both I would have been happy with either.

Only problem i’ve got now is getting down to collect it, what with living up here in the Lakes. Looks as if i’m gonna have to wait until next weekend

As for wheels, half tempted by some Easton Haven that CRC are doing at 1/2 price.

I recently bought one of CRC’s pro bike bags (very similar to the highly regarded Evoc bike bag) and I have to say that the quality is great. Bag is much better than the older bag I had. I’m using it for the first time at the end of this month for a trip to the Alps, but after that I’d be happy to rent it to you, say £40 for the week! Where abouts are you?

Coopersport1, go for it! I did a 30 mile charity race on mine yesterday up here in the Lakes and managed to knock almost 30 minutes off my 2011 time on the same route. Would have been quicker still if it wasn’t for cramp and a cake stop!!

Let me know if you decide to pull the trigger – i may be able to do you a deal on my large frame and forks!

CS1, I’m about 6’1/2″ and the large is ideal. I run it with a 70mm stem and that gives a nice stretch without being too long. Just put some 2.4″ ardents on it and it rides great, if a little heavier than with the previous crossmarks!

Fell off back of bike doing a wheelie. hit head (no helmet). Woke up in hospital 4 weeks later. Was told i had 1/2 hr to live at one point during the coma as they were struggling to keep my heart going. The hit to the head fractured my skull and caused minor brain damage leading to tests on brain activity over a period of months. Speach was mildly affected for a while.

Was a long time ago though. Only 4 when it happened, 42 now.

Rich, what time you going to be in Kentmere/Staveley? I’m going there for about 9am for a 15-20 mile ride. Good ups and great downs.

Best parking in Staveley, behind Wheelbase.

I’ve got a Nomad C that i’m thinking of selling. I bought a Tallboy recently and that seems to be getting the most use at the moment.

I had an alloy Nomad before the carbon and the difference is chalk and cheese – much stiffer, noticably lighter, more plush!

If you are in the market for one let me know. Basic spec of mine is as follows:

    Large Nomad C in white
Rockshox Lyriks – coil, u-turn, mission control, high and low speed compression.
    Fox RP23 kashima rear shock
Mavic 721EN on Hope Pro II hubs with Minions
    Specialized Command Post seat post
Thomson 70mm stem with Easton carbon DH bar
    SLX groupset
    Avid Elixer CR Carbon brakes

At the risk of going off topic a little here – the two clips above are much better quality than i’m getting on my GP HD. I’ve not used it too much and am still trying to find the right compression settings etc to allow me to upload to YouTube / Vimeo with as little quality loss as possible.

The GP records in mp4 and i’m editing with the latest edition of Sony Vegas on a new i3 processor laptop with 3gb memory.

Can someone please give me an idiots guide on what settings to use, initial projects settings, final render settings. Any help would be appreciated.

Must agree – great shop but not so local anymore since i moved tothe Lakes!

Andy, Lee, Baz and the rest are all good guys. Great at gettig you to part with your money too :-) To date i think this is the full list:

SC Blur, SC Nomad, Ridley CX, SC Heckler, Cove Hummer, SC Blur LT, SC Nomad C, SC Tallboy C (only still got that last two).

I still treat them as my LBS although a trip to the shop is a 340 mile round trip.

Just got back from appointment. Bit of a waste of time to be honest. He asked how i was getting on, i said fine – no electric shock type pain anymore. he said that was possibly the best outcome and that i should be pleased.

I still get a clicking sensation, but he said that will always be there unless i have it surgically removed. Not too keen on that, if i’m honest!!

i had the steroid injections about 2 months ago. First reaction was great – no pain at all. Then the local anaesthetic wore off! Still, no pain like before the jabs but still an uncomfortableness and the “clicking”. Now, though, hardly nothing at all – not much in the clicking department and definitely no stabbing, electric shock type pain.

Interestingly, I’ve got my follow up appointment tomorrow morning.

Guess i may be lucky for once (Have had two proceedures on my lower lumber resulting in 5 fused vertebrae).

Hope it goes well for you.

I had this exact issue. To sort it is simple – drop your rear wheel out of the frame and gentle squeeze the rear brake lever two times – remember, gently and not all the way back to the bar. Then refit wheel and all should now be ok. Its to do with pad wear and the system not being able to automatically account for the resultent increase in pad movement required to make the pads hit the rotor.

42 Now. When is was 17 i prolapsed two discs and after 9 months of physio went under the knife and had three vertebrae fused. 10 years later an i prolapsed the next disc up and again had the vertebrae fused. All fine following both procedures – no residual pain. I’d highly recommend!

it can depend on where your flat is – somewhere with a high old age population can lead to ground floor flats being more expensive as they are more readily accessible to the old (no stairs to climb).

Have you thought about a Cove Hummer? I’ve currently got a 2009 Litespeed built Hummer (18″/19″) that i’m going to have a go at selling as a complete bike. However, for the right money i might consider spliting the build and letting the frame go on its own.

As it currently stands its got RS Revelation 130mm duel air forks, Mavic 717 on Hiope Pro 2 hubs, full xt drive chain with Avid Juicy carbon brakes, KS i7 (27.2mm) uppy downy seatpost, Easton carbon bar.

A great lightweight bike in great condition as its not used much being a second bike.

Let me know if you are interested?

    Paul
