Saw them first whilst on holiday in Florida about 10 years ago. Since then have seen them a couple of times at Royal Albert Hall and once in Birmingham. Oh, flew to Vegas to watch Love, a C d S show inspired by songs by the Beatles!

Have to say that their residential shows are way better than the touring ones, but the touring ones are still very good.

Concensus would seem to be spds then so I shall bow to those with greater knowledge and whip off the Vaults and save them for some of the fun stuff up here in the Lakes.

Thanks all and no doubt will probably ride/walk straight past some of you on the day without even knowing it.

I’ve got a pair of Light Bicycle clincher wheels on their way to me. I wss hoping to go for Planet X but needed to have disc brake hubs so that ruled them out.

The wheels I’ve ordered are 50mm section clinchers without braking surface built on Novatec hubs with Pilar spokes. Hoping to get confirmation today/tomorrow that they have been shipped in readiness for the Fred Whitton in May!

Just need a cheap Di2 groupset now!!!

Thanks all for the advice. Tried the upside down method today with some kiln dried hardwood from the local supermarket. Fire’s going a treat!! Now just need to source a good supply of ready to burn logs whilst I embark along the adventure of building a wood store and obsessively stocking it in readiness for winter 2014/15 or more likely 2015/16.

Just say that you’d like to agree with her, but that would make you both wrong!! Works a treat!!

I have to say that i don’t find the tourist thing to be too much of an issue in Widnermere. Used to live just down the road in Bowness and that was worse in that regard. Bowness = tourists, Windermere = locals (mainly). Have to say though that i like it being busy, gives the place a little energy but not in the same way as when i was living in the Midlands!!

Quite recently moved to Windermere and work in Kendal. Windermere is great albeit bloody expensive in terms of housing. Done an hours road bike tonight – out to Grasmere and back. The riding is just great from here – road or MTB.

I’m a big fan of Staveley – National Park location, good communications to Kendal, South Lakes and M6 and housing that is a little cheaper than the ‘honeypot’ areas.

Spilt a pint of Guiness down the back of Vinny Jones’s shirt many years ago whilst on a works do at the Dover Street Wine Bar in London village.

Also, turned a corner to walk in to The Great Western Arcade, Birmingham only to be met face to face with a running Naomi Campbell. I wasn’t particularly watching where is was going and she could’nt stop. Her 6 stone against my 14 stone – one of us ended up on our arse and i’m please to say it wasn’t me! Foul mouthed primadonna!! Fit though to be honest!

Ta! Thinking of doing a map wall at home of the Lake District at 1:50,000. Just got to work out now how many maps and how big they would be when pasted together. Answers on a post card please:-)

    Looks as if I’m in!!

Have got myself a Kurt Kinetic in the garages need to start the training in earnest! Hopefully if I can train well and lose half my body weight I might gave an outside chance of getting around this rediculous challenge!

Bought myself a Vango Force 10 Helium 200 just before Christmas. Haven’t used it yet but looks like it should do the trick. Good quality, very light and not stupid money if you shop around.

My father passed away last year and I inherited his Rolex 18c Day Date. The watch was in really nice condition, but I’m sorry to say that I’m not a ‘gold person’. It was a hard decision to make, but in the end I px’d it against the below. I now have a watch that would ordinarily be way beyond my reach, but one that still reminds me of my dad each and every day.

I’ve got one and really don’t rate it at all! Great build quality but very limited light throw. Up here on the Lake District trails at night even with a full moon I have to supplement the light with an Exposure Diablo.

If I was buying now I’d go for the Exposure Equinox

Seem to be averaging c.28mpg from my VW Scirocco R (albeit with a very lite right foot)!

VW California 180bhp seems to be doing low 30’s mpg which i think is reasonable considering the weight of the thing!

The other half got me a Jetboil which I’m well chuffed with!! This and my new ultra light tent put me well on my way to some overnight bike adventures in 2014! May look at having a crack at doing the Lakeland 200.

Have recently bought the family a VW California so am hoping to get some bits and pieces for that off the extended family. Looking forward to using it sometime soon.

Very excited here – picking up our VW California tomorrow!! Can’t wait, even if collection does involve a 3.5 hr train journey first.

I quite fancy wallpapering a wall at home with the Lakes National Park 1:50,000 OS maps. Would
Ike to use 1:25,000 but haven’t got the wall space. Problem is no one makes OS map wall paper. Will likely have to use actual maps, but will need to speak to a friendly decorator to get tips on how best to paste to the wall.

I do a lot of night riding around the south Lakes where I live. Quite often go out over Kentmere on my own at night, including up and over Garburn! Not saying that it’s a sensible thing to do but with work and family commitments there is little other time to ride some weeks.

I’ve bought a Garmin 810 so that the other half can at least track where I am in real time.

I’ve got a Snugg case for mine. Holding it now. Feels like a premier product and not too pricy when compared to the competition.

I’m 43 now and have had sciatica on and off since i was 17!!

At the age of 18 i ent under the knife and had two discs removed and three vertibrae fused. That was instant relief for about the next ten years and then i got another further serious bout. Under the knife again and a further disc removed and further vertibrae fused to he ones that were fused previously.

Touch wood, i’ve not had a serious reoccurance since, but i’m always weary. Althought the two operations worked in hindsight i’d rather have gone down some other route first.

This isn’t necessarily going to be what you want to hear, but in my experience you’re not going to change him or his sleeping patterns.

Our eldest is an early riser and always has been. What we ended up doing was getting quiet activities ready the night before so that when she woke she could entertain herself. This has worked well for the past four years or so and her art and craft work is no excellent and being sold for pocket money!!

    Sorry and good luck.

if under the terms of your lease you are responsible for the repair and mantenance of the premises then there is a good change that you are what is called the duty holder. The responsibility for the assessment of and the dealing with asbestos could therefore be our responsibility and your cost.

    Take advice!

We’ve used Intoto twice (on two separate houses) and have had no great issues. Good service and great design, but as has been said above they are a little pricy!!

8500ft – apparently so, according to the organisers website. My Bryton however recorded it as 5400ft but there were areas of poor gps reception.

Ride started and finished in the rain. Good event though. 60 miles with c.8500ft of climbing. My first sportive and finished with a time of 4’21”. Anyone else?

Luck enough to have relocated to Windermere, but I have to say that we really considered Staveley as an option. Good location, good nearby facilities, great riding and good community spirit. Personally I think Staveley will be the ‘next big thing’ – housing is markedly cheaper than Windermere and its in the train line to Kendal (West Coast Mainline).

Not sure if you’ll get to see this Keith, but thanks for all your top advice over the many years that I’ve known you! I can’t think of many others who would drop goods off at your home on their way home.

All the best Keith from me and the family!
