I’ve been wearing Lenses for past 30 years and have tried most types. Now on Specsavers monthlys that you leave in for the month – you sleep in them. Seemed less risky than going down the laser route!

I’ve got a pair of Light Bicycle 50mm section carbon clinchers that I’m going to be selling very soon. Disc specific with no rim braking surface. Very, very nice, but a little bit of a handful up here in the windy north!

They seem to be very strong and the Novatec hubs run as smooth as any other that i’ve had. Very light too – approx 1450gr for the pair from memory.

Go carbon if you can would be my advice as there is a notable improvement in stiffness, weight etc….

Is there room for one more on the bandwagon?

Bought in last week and have only had chance for one short ride so far. What a laugh! Don’t know why, but anyway, what a giggle!

Got a call from the LBS saying they could get me a Fatboy in size large. Thought about it for 5 minutes and picked it up two days later. Only been out for one short ride so far but it was gun inducing!

Chrisylad24 – is that Mr T? Have you seen the Charge Cooker Maxi at Ghyllside Cycles. Nice bike for £850.

Thanks Scotroutes. Not going to be able to put off this itch ’till then. Will have a look at the Specialized Fatboy early in the new year (hopefully), although LBS (Ghyllside Cycles) have a very nice new Charge Cooker Maxi in black for £850 which seems very good VFM.

Made the move to Cumbria almost 5 years ago. Best move ever! Did what we could to move into Windermere, before you all shout tourists, bloody tourists, we’re not too bothered by them due to living up on a hill! No getting away from it though, it’s way expensive. I’ve just valued a small one bedroom holiday cottage (600 sqft) in one of the other honey pot towns – £450,000 amd 3 people falling over themselves to buy it!

I’d happily live in Staveley – great village with a good scene going on. I’m also liking Ulverston too. Expecting values to start increasing soon due to impact of expansion programme at GSK. Investors are already moving in, buying the smaller rentals and HMO type properties.

    What about Broughton?

Saw a property in Barrow the other day – £90,000, £5,000 to spend and would generate £35,000pa gross income.. No wonder these are being snapped up!

I spilt a full pint of Guinness down the back of Vinnie Jones white shirt in the dover Street Win Bar, London.

Physically walked into Naomi Campbell once in Birminghan, knocking her clean off her feet and on to her skinny arse.

I was on the packaging box for the official Pink Panther cuddly toy.

VW Scirocco R for every day fast use. Not bad on fuel. Not too good with bikes – got a special VW roof rack that appears to be made from stringy cheese and marsh mellows. Got a VW California for general biking duties (and holidays, trips to the tip, days out etc…). Bloody brilliant vehicle.

Skeff10 – thanks for your post I get what you’re saying regards braking, but I’m running discs so not such a problem. The LB wheels don’t have a braking surface, not that that’s really relevant. I like the look of the LB 35’s – nice and wide (25mm) for a good tyre shape. Might be the way forward, just don’t want to be fighting the bike in anything but still conditions.

Looked at a Genesis Caribou the other day and then a Specialized Fatboy. Want a fatbike and will probably be one of these two, but can’t decide. One looks great for hitting the hills and staying out over night and the other looks easier to live with for general trail duties. Decisions decisions!

Anyone made the choice between these two?

30 mile road ride around Coniston with Chris Boardman yesterday followed by a walk with the wife and kids in the afternoon and lovely beef cobbler for tea. Today played in the garden with the kids this morning and a party this afternoon to say goodbye to some friends who are relocating. Good luck Jo, Oliver and kids!

I got my Scirocco R earlier this year. Absolutely love it! Great just tootling along averaging c.32mpg, but it’s at its best when driven. Crazy fast and puts a grin on my face every single day. When it comes to time to change the Scirocco I’ll be tempted to have a look at the Golf R.

I recently got myself a pair of Light Bicycle disc specific carbon wheels on Novatech hubs. The rims are 50mm section but others are available. And mine do not have any rim braking surface. Weight? Just over 1400 grams. Price? Pretty sure they ended up around £500 delivered. Used them for this years Fred Whitton and they performed faultlessly. Very impressed with them and they accelerate quickly due to lack of rim weight.

If you have the means to stretch then higher end house does seem to be the more interesting of the two, pound for pound. More space, detached but most important to me would be the off road parking and garage space. South facing garden?

I would suggest both are perhaps slightly north of the mark in price, especially if you take into consideration the length of time they’ve been in the market. Only problem in Windermere is that owners tend to be very reluctant to reduce their expectations on price. Being able to move quickly usually counts for something these days.

ED34 – are you currently in Windermere? We’ve been here for 4 years now. I know both of the houses you are looking at and have referred to them in a few local valuations that I’ve done for some of the high street banks. Both very nice. If it were me and I was happy with the security of my income I’d go large. Windermere has weathered the housing crash well and prices have remained quite robust over the past 3-4 years.

I switched to mtb spds on my road bike for last weeks Fred Whitton in anticipation of having to walk up Hardknott Pass. Have to say the walk was almost pleasurable, but could say the say for my fellow ‘walkers’ in road shoes who we’re slipping and sliding all over the place.

Also, on decent length road rides I get some light knee pain when wearing my road shoes, but no such pain with the mtb’s even after 112 miles! I know that this will be down to cleat positioning but I haven’t seemed to be able to get it right on the road shoes.

Please accept my apologies if the front end of the bike offends!

The brakes are BB7’s but your correct, the groupset is Di2. Absolutely fantastic bit of kit – encourages you to work on and maintain your cadence over undulating roads due to the shifts being so positive and ‘easy’.

Would have gone for a Tarmac, but having had 4 lumber discs removed and 5 vertebrae fused an element of comfort was deemed to be preferable to vanity!

Been riding road for about 12 months now – how long until I become intollerable of other peoples choices, reasoned or not!

I bought this with the 2014 Fred Whitton in mind. I have to say, having come from an mtb background it was remarkably comforting to have the disc brakes on the descents of Hardknott and Wrynose. I am by no means a good descender on the road bike but I certainly overtook more riders on these two descents than those that came past me.
