I fitted a Sram 12-32T cassette this evening together with a new chain. Bit of getting with the B screw and rejigging of the indexing and all’s good. Did a 27 mile ride with over 2,000ft of climbing and it didn’t miss a beat.

All set now for Sunday’s Rallen Leaves ride!

Encouraging to see that others are running 32T on 10 speed Di2 with no real issues. it seems that the ability to do so can come down to the length of the mech hanger.

I’ll get a 32T block and try it out and report back.

    Thanks all.

I had TBc in large. I’m 6″ and it was great, until I tried the LTc. Sold the TB and have been riding the LTC now for a couple of years. Great great bike. Live and ride in the Lake District and it never misses a beat.

LTc is now longer showing on SC website – I wouldn’t be surprised to see it relaunched at some point as a 27.5+ or 29+.

Try Wheelbase in Staveley or Biketreks/Ghyllside Cycles in Ambleside.

You could try Bassenthwaite through to Keswick and then head down towards Ambleside taking the quite road western shore road around Thirlmere.

Once in Ambleside then climb up The Struggle onto the top of the Kirkstone Pass and then down the other side past Brotherswater, along Ullswater and then left and up an over Mardale and head back to Keswick and Bassenthwaite. That should be 40-50 miles or so.

Switched our gas and electric a month or two ago – savings based on last bill would equate to c.£400 over a year!!!

Rich, Google Comfortz Leisure. They do toppers, but they’re not cheap! Or try Duvalay.

I inherited a Koga Miyata Globe Traveller from my father. Great bike, same as the one used by Mark Beaumont in his round the World ride. Ali frame, v brakes and vey comfy.

Could be that you have a small leak from the piston behind the pad. It wouldn’t take much brake fluid to make them squeal. Might be a warranty job.

I’ve had the Fox shock on my Tallboy LTc pushed a little while ago. On the rocky trails up here in The Lakes I have to say that it just feels better. More support in the mid stroke and more willing to give up its full travel when needed.

I’d consider it to be a worthy upgrade.

What ages are you and can you be trusted? I may have a place for one night.

It has to be a Honka Hoota. Group of us fitted them to our bikes a year or two ago for an Alps trip. The guys working the lifts found them to be very amusing when lifting the bikes on and off! Ebays your friend.

Try the Admiral Hotel – very nice but it’s been a long time since I stayed there. Not sure what the rates are either. Useless post really. Sorry.

Did he Lakeland Lood today and the weather was nigh on perfect. Just warm enough, light winds and great views.

    Where were you Boxelder?

Nice Nishiki Alien there. I reckon bought from the old bike shop by Windermere train station. I bought one from there years ago and then drove to The Pace factory for one of the first pairs of RC forks to be fitted. A friend of my father now has the bike.

Top weekend indeed! Got to Glentress in time for lunch. Made lunch in the Campervan up at Buzzards Nest car park, quick change of clothes and then off to the green skills area where youngest overcame her fears and cleared the balance beams – cue ear to ear grinning from the both of us. Next, two laps of the green route followed by snacks back at the van. Finished the day with two top runs down Burm baby Burm and BBQ down at the camp site!

Top trip aided by great weather!

    Seriously recommend Glentress.

I’ve had two sets of LB road wheels. Both built by LB onto Novatec disc hubs. First set were 50mm section, current set at 35mm section. Both have been absolutely faultless! Light, strong, cheap – tell that to Bontrager!

Both sets have been ridden in anger up here in the Lakes on roads that leave a lot to be desired.

Bob lo, have you tried Di2? It is not effort saving on a massive scale, but it is just click click click with little to no effort lose due to cable friction. Sure, it’s unlikey with mechanical shifts that you’re going to get RSI, but Di2 is just so much easier, allowing you to keep your cadence right where you want it. Each to their own though. Are you still using down tube friction shifters :D

I’ve got Di2 and love it, compared to the previous mechanical Ultegra. I find that I change gear considerably more now than previously, most likely down to much less effort involved and no need to trim the front mech.

    Been there too!

Very hard call to make, but ultimately there will be relief all round.

Good luck. Be Strong. Make the most of every minute.

Bring my bikes in via the rear, along a private lane and past the summer house (minding not to trip in the dark into the swimming pool), bike into the heated workshop, strip off dirty clothes and into the sauna before hitting the hot tub.

Or is it – wheel the bike up the drive, past the car and into the shed, minding not to trip over all the kids crap? Either way it’s still riding bikes!

Try the NT site at Great Langdale. Great site, was there last weekend. Good smooth off road track to the Britannia Inn at Elterwater or carry on to Skelwith Bridge and Chesters Cafe.

Showers, good shop, bouldering wall and play park for the kids. Can book via the NT website.

So sorry to hear your news.

I lost my dad 2 years ago last week to stomach cancer. We lived 180 miles apart and I tried to visit him most weekends towards the end of his time. I now wish I’d taken some leave from work and spent more time with him to ask for answers to all these questions that I now have.

Please don’t waste what time you have left. Enjoys the moments, go for a walk, look at old photos. Ask about his childhood, his first girlfriend and most important of all just accept the inevitable and try to put it to one side.

Chin up and be as merry as you can, there will be time for the other emotions later.

I’m on my second pair of LB wheels. First pair were disc specific rims with no braking surface, 50mm section on Novatec 711/712 hubs. I went for matt UD finish. Have to say the wheels were great – arrived very true and served me well up here in the Lakes. Only sold them because the 50mm rims were a little ‘lively’ when the wind got up.

Have since bought a set of 35mm deep ‘U’ shaped rims, again on Niva hubs. Rims are 25mm in width and seem to be very strong.

Very good service with good communication and delivery within 3-4 weeks.

Whenever someone wants an extension/addition to their property that requires drawings to aid the builder they automatically assume they need an architect on board. By all means use an architect for the conceptual aspects of the design should you not be able to come up with the ideas yourself. However, a qualified building surveyor will be able to produce the working drawings for you, most likely at a reduced rate.

Architect = conceptual ideas. Building surveyor = working drawings.

I’ve had mountain bikes (too many to list)since about 1985. Bought a road bike in late 2013, have since swapped it for another and love road riding. Have thought about CX but never taken the plunge.

    Currently:
MTB – Santa Cruz Tallboy LTc 29’r
    Fatbike – Specialized Fatboy
    Road – Specialized Roubaix
Touring – Koga Miyata Globe Traveller.

I bought a Scirocco R just over 12 months ago. Lovin it! Absolutely lovin it! Great performance and not too bad on fuel. Easy swallows a fatbike too.

Sorry, having said yes a few weeks ago I’m now going to have to say no. Just been granted wife approval to a week in the Alps later in the year, but can’t do both.

Hope you all have a great weekend.

I bought some Chinese carbon 50mm section, disc specific wheels from Light Bicycle last year. Cracking set of wheels – super true, reasonably light (1450g for the pair), economical (c.£400 delivered) and they looked the mutts nuts.

I’ve just sold them(today) as they were a little ‘lively’ for me with the wind etc we get up here in The Lakes. I have however replaced them with another pair from Light Bicycle – this time carbon, disc specific again but 35mm deep. Again, they turned up within 3 weeks, super true and look great in matt against the matt frame finish.

if your budget is in the region of £400 then I would have no issue with recommending Chinese carbon.

Very glad I found this post. Will check with the social secretary, but should be on for this.

Did the Reevers Route C2C in 2014 on a Koga Globe Traveller in inherited from my father. Reckon this should be ok?

Hope to confirm over next couple of days if that’s ok.

OP – I’ve got a pair of Light Bicycle carbon 50mm section disc specific wheels for sale if you’re interested. Wheels were bought new in May 2014 and have done about 500 miles.

The rims are UD finish on Novatec hubs and have no rim brake surface. They are in as new condition. Looking for £275 or nearest offer. Only selling as I’ve since taken delivery of a pair of LB 35mm section wheels which are better suited to my riding.
