Sorry – forgot to answer this thread. I’ve put in a basic MagArchive search as an interim measure. You can find it at the top of the MagArchive main page http://singletrackworld.com/magarchive/%5B/url%5D

If you subscribe to the European Print & Digital plan it’s around 6€ for Singletrack Mag too – and you don’t need to go the the station to pick it up.

Ahh! You want space – you need pre

You’re welcome – misuse of markup helpers the culprit. If you want to post unformatted stuff like code or financial tables use

    Preformatted text
Sorry about confusion – should slow down and read things properly.
Yes, Flash dependancy is a no-no for me. When I find time I’ll try to rebuild the Vimeo sidebar as HTML5/Javascript with a Flash fallback for older browsers.

    Glad you’re not adblocking 🙂

    Hi wwaswas,
Apart from the ads – which you can turn of as a premier user, and the Vimeo plugin – which I have now removed. Where is this site using Flash?

    Am I missing something?

All our videos are HTML5 where possible.

    Confused??

Sorry about that folks. That’ll teach me to use third party plugins. I’ll build my own javascript version when I get a chance.

Sorted now. Vimeo to blame I think. If anyone still having problems, let me know.

If there are inappropriate ads appearing do let us know and we will review. Alternatively you can always upgrade to Premier for as little as £15 per year and choose not to display the ads.

I’ve tested this on iPad, iPad 2 and iPhone 4 (I’m typing this on the iPad 1). I can’t see any issues other than the poor ish JavaScript rendering I’ve noticed on recent iOS devices.

Could those having problems try quitting any other programmes that may be multitasking and let me know if the problem persists?

Edit: all my devices are on 5.0.1

I’ll look into this. So the main issues seem to be page load and commenting?

Is this an iPhone only issue or is it iPad also?

Let me know if any of you are still getting problems.

As you’ve confirmed this is still a live problem – I’m turning off the likely culprits now.

Very sorry about this. We are bringing this to the attention of the ad server that may be the cause. Outside our control fo the moment.

Definitely not a “cynical ploy”. We would not expose our users to security threats to boost subscriptions.

My partner has one. You get YouTube support – don’t think it does flash video though.

I use the Puky carry strap as a brake when near the road and a towing line when legs get tired. Can’t confirm if this is 100% safe but seems ok.

    +1 for Puky

The Fresh Goods Friday one is in use by my very small 2 year old and I’m amazed at what he can do on it – I have to run to keep up. Had both feet off the ground within a few days.

Surprised you would have difficulties with Chrome – I use it as my main browser and would tend to spot issues. Having said that – I’ve only been here since the end of June so I don’t know about before.

If anyone is still having issues with Chrome or any other browser, please do bring them to my attention. I have limited time in each day but will do my best to resolve the most serious issues first.

If it’s happening repeatedly even after you’ve refreshed the cache – that suggests it’s not a cached CSS issue.

I’m rather caught up with other jobs at present but will look in detail as some of these legacy issues as soon as I can.

Hi will, Which “this” do you mean? We’ve broadened this out to two separate issues.

Checking my Samsung Galaxy S now – can’t see any issues. What version of Android are you running on the Desire

    Thank for the screenshot

I’ve just checked on various machines in the office and managed to duplicate the issue. It seems to be cached CSS files – You need to force a refresh. For Windows – Ctrl + F5 will normally do the trick

Example url please (and screenshot if you can manage) and I’ll look into it.

Last thought – Last time I went for a pint it cost me more than a few months digital sub (a snip at 1.25 per month)

Hi Cougar, Yes but both require time to develop. I’ll be incrementally changing things as we go along so do let me know if anything I do screws things up.

    Anyway – I’ve been here since early – it’s Friday – I’m off home.

See you all bright and breezy on Monday

    Hi Jamie and mastiles_fanylion,
Yes a mobile version(s) STW is something I want to do teh main issues are:

Finding the time to completely redesign the site[/*]

Working out a model for selling ads for the mobile version[/*]
As an ad supported site I need to ensure the ads can be accommodated.
We could do it just for Premier users and then we wouldn’t have to worry about the ads – not sure how that would make the rest of you feel.

The issue is the same for allowing chat client access eg Tapatalk

Who would pay for the lost ad revenue – And honestly, without the ads I wouldn’t be here to maintain the site.

The pagination issue is a bit of a wierd one and I’m still trying to get to the bottom of it in between other jobs. It’s not all the multi page threads so once I can work out what the difference is I’ll get it fixed.

Hi Jamie – by all means have a chat with our Jamie and he can sort out removing those icky ads for you or head over to self service /Subscribe

soma_rich – stage 2 involves making the menus a but more touch friendly as mobile/tablet becoming a large part of our usage.

By the way – if anyone is having “Cookie Issues” we’ve set up a handy link to delete all your STW cookies in one go

Wow – that took over a day before anyone complained! Thought I had got away with it.

The log in link is where is’s always been (though that will be changing soon). However I have moved the logged in drop-down menu over the the right.

The impetus for this was that a few flash ads we are running were floating in front of the menu meaning users couldn’t get to the links. Normally we can sort this out with a few settings changes. However that wasn’t a route open to us for these new ads.

I made the decision to move it to the right as this would largely overcome the problem without too radical change.

I also would argue that the top right account management menu has become a “web convention” and that is where most users would look first.

I relatively new here, would you find it helpful I were to blog about changes to the site so as to improve communications?

Sorry – missed this earlier. The recent issue was us changing from having a www in the site url to being just singletrackworld.com.

Unfortunate side-effect was it messed up peoples rss readers presenting the old posts as new.

Apologies for inconvenience and it shouldn’t occur again as the changes are now complete.
