Also, might wrapping them up in lots of padding not teach them that mountain biking is dangerous and scary?

    it is, isn’t it? 😜

I take your point but at the moment my little one crashes a fair bit and i don’t want it to dampen his enthusiasm.

Also not true. Tiles can’t be laid until
Screed is fully dry also. Which is 1mm/day, they might be more tolerant to moisture, but it’s still bad practice to tile early, as they have no give and will pop as the screed dries.

I know a guy who’s whole business is just fixing this issue – normally by injecting resin under the blown tiles, very common apprently. Mostly builders rushing to get off a job.

Not sure you can apply the same pricipal to the wood floor sadly :(

Has anyone tried to contact Hermes online or otherwise?

sigh, if my time comes and it’s decided that i need to spend an eternity in hell, i’ll go safe in the knowledge that it can’t possibly be as bad as attempting the above.

they lost 2K of camera gear (business not personal fortunately)

hello its been 6 months now since i submitted my claim, i’ve heard nothing, any news?

“Its with the special department that deals with these specific issues”

thats what you said last month, any eta?

“No idea, they will contact you with a resolution”

but its been 6 months, can you give me a contact number?

    “no sorry”

    Why not?

“because your parcel was lost abroad its with a special department, we can’t contact them”

Well if you won’t give me the number i’m sure you can just give them a quick call for me?

    “no sorry”

    Why not?

    “they don’t have phones”

Really? what about an email address?

    “they dont’ have emails”

So nobody can help me except them and they are not contactable?

    “correct”

ARRRRGH been two and a half years now.

This thread has reminded me to pick it back up next week, something to look forward to :(

Hell would have to freeze over and the ice road truckers would have to drag my rotting carcass across it before i’d use Hermes again, or anyone who wants to use them to send me somthing for that matter.

Glad they’ve done away with ‘got no budget’ nonsense.

Oh we need a machine for this job but we’ve got no budget, oh look a new digger on the driveway.

Oh would be great to have a glass elevator but we’ve got no budget etc.

Sure they were trying to suggest at the start that the sale of the UK flat paid for the purchase and the change was the refurb budget, must have realised everyone actually knows TV is paying for it.

Other thing they need to be less coy about are the kids. Must have shipped the inlaws in to look after the kids full time. I’m trying to do up my house with two young kids and it aint happening – mine is no Chateau either!

I don’t mind it, watched the first couple of seasons till it went to that helping other Brits who actually have no budget rubbish.

I don’t think anyone has mentioned COVID yet. possibly another factor causing people to hold back from close contact with someone who has just collapsed. I’m not proud to admit it would probably cross my mind too.

Actually thats a good point, it never crossed my mind, not through any form of bravery, it just didn’t cross my mind.

I have spent the last 6 months trying to igore it though :)

These are excellent. https://www.amazon.com/300-Yard-Balloon-Slingshot-Cannon-Launcher/dp/B00AL57GEW if you get good with them it’s like a mortar and you can launch them from really far away so that they have absolutely no idea where they’re coming from, especially at night. Needs 3 people to get the max distance and a spotter for accuracy but you can get a good 100 yards on your own using your foot in the strap. Fill with whatever you think will cause the most annoyance, however I wouldn’t recommend frozen sausages.

    @thebibbles
    – i’m annoyed with everyone on the train for not helping but i’ve let it go now.

    But thank you though!

    :)

it was a long time, even by my standards. a minute or more perhaps (least it felt like that), i saw it from further back and had to go down the carriage.

By doing what, all standing around her and staring at the people who are already helping her?

sorry but you’ve missed my point, once someone is assisting her i have absolutly no issue with what everyone else does.

Hang on a minute. Someone collapsed and there were two people helping them, one apparently skilled – on a cramped train – so what did you want everyone else to do?

    see above

Not to complete their morning commute whilst ignoring the seamingly unconsious girl on the floor of the train i think.

Maybe they feel that, once a couple of people have started to help, that they wouldn’t have anything else to add and would be getting in the way?

agreed and thats probably somthing i would tell myself in that situation.

However i think what i’m describing is the moment in time between her collapsing (like a sack of spuds) and someone helping.

As i admitted to before i’d probably make a sort of move towards helping whilst waiting for someone else to step in. But in this instance nothing – if anything there felt like a real lack of concern which looking back i guess i found a bit shocking.

It got to a point where me as a relucant by-stander felt if i didn’t go actually no-one would.

I can’t really take any credit, didn’t do that much, apart from repeatedly asking if she was ok :)

Just odd because it’s not like we were being asked to break up a fight or deal with someones blood, was just a girl sparko on the floor of the train.

I’ve done a few first aid courses with work over the years and one when my first kid was born but its just something that never seems to stick.

Honestly my first thought was ‘not sure what to do, wait and see if anyone else helps’ but nobody was forthcoming then when i went to help so did the other person, thankfully.

GP switched me to Pfizer for second dose 4 days ago and honestly wouldn’t have known I had been jabbed if I hadn’t seen the guy do it. So happy as only that morning the news reported far stronger side effects being recorded when mixing vaccines.

Interesting i didn’t know mixing your drinks was an option so to speak! might ask my GP

As others, i had my AZ about 3 weeks ago and still feeling the effects (age 44). Its pretty much wiped me out plus had a trip to Hospital to get checked out.

If push comes to shove i’ll have the second dose but not looking forward to it.

Had our second this afternoon at Sheffield Arena. Staff were professional, efficient and polite. Pity some of the ones waiting to be jabbed weren’t the same.

Its surprising when you have been out of touch with everyone how obnoxious some people can be

I had to queue for 30 mins for mine. When i came out one of the marsahalling ladies came running over and said really sorry about the wait. No worries i said, i’d have queued all day if needed. She looked genuinely supprised, seems not all others shared my enthusiasum.

think the levels of obnoxious have gone up a notch or two in the last 18 months.

    Probably middle-of-the-road price wise.

Probably £3-400 which i imagine is actually low end in reality but not £200 :)

Hehe currently on day 3 of the decoration of my new (to me) office room in the roof.

Had a pretty important meeting last week with about 10 others and I realised I’m the only one that was in their bedroom. Not very pro! This has spurred me into action.

It really needs plastering but the whole lot is due to be ripped out later in the year so I’m bodging it with lining paper and offensive amounts of caulk.

I’ll share the results if I get it done before we are all back in the real office 😂😂

    Nothing wrong with the boiler.

Whatever way they’re running the scheme we’ve been told that they need to meet some energy efficiency saving to qualify. They can achieve this by replacing a boiler that more than 8 years old and adding underfloor insulation (I think this is a fiddle to be honest – I reckon at best a new boiler will be a couple of percent more efficient than our current one).

Our boiler is 9 years old. We’ve been intending to do underfloor insulation in the house for a couple of years but never gotten around to it. We were expecting it to cost around £300. We’ve been told £500 for boiler + insulation. Seems a no brainer.

Is this the new green homes grant?

I’ve got an ideal fitted about 5 years ago, been no issues. Just fitted a new boiler to my new house and went for a Baxi 830 (same unit as a 630 just 10 years warranty rather than 7).

Several installers i talked to told me Worcester Bosch are a pain to service so they can never be arsed to do it properly (have to take a lot of it apart to access certain parts). Not sure if this is BS or not.

Went for the Baxi because seemed a couple of hundred quid cheaper than the equivilent WB.

However not that convinced yet as the running costs seem higher (but thats a seperate thread)

Some babes are great some can be nightmare, just the luck of the draw. I had one of each. The first 3 – 6 months are both amazing but hellish, wish someone had prepared me for how hard the first few weeks actually are.

Most points covered before but a few random notes…

    1) Your instincts are probably good enough to get you through, frightening at first but you soon get it, thank god for my wife!

    2) All babies are different you just have to find what works for yours. For us it was a good routine.

    3) I got the impression every **expert** needs to sell their books so they have to come up with somthing different – when we had sleep issues with our first we read too many books and just confused the shit out of everyone.

    4) Amazon was on repeat in the weeks before our first arrived, my mum used to come in sigh and say “they would happily sleep in a draw you know”, she was right. Don’t buy too much crap. My younger son now wears his sisters clothes :)

    5) NCT was great, its another luck of the draw thing with who you get but we made some great friends and still are, 4 years later and my wife had some amazing support at the start. The course/anti-natal part is rubbish though, free NHS one was alot better.

    6) They ask you to make a birth plan, in other words what you would like to happen. Its not up to you, don’t sweat it.

    7) Learn your baby’s crys, you can tell hungry, in pain, annoyed etc after a while.

    8) If i did it again i’d not buy a video baby monitor – countless hours wasted staring at that stupid fuzzy little sceen. You don’t have to rush in everytime he/she moves.

    9) Don’t let others tell you how you should be doing it. Sleep training worked for us but its not for eveyone.

    10) Whatever gets said in the night is forgotten in the morning, that was our rule :) Supprising how lack of sleep/high emotions can wear you down – look after yourselves!

    11) Birth part is pretty sureal, still don’t really get it, i mean we have iphones, people have been to space yet we have still not evolved away from having to push somthing out of a hole thats not really big enough for it to come out of. No real advice for that part – i’ve blanked it out!

    12) looking back, you only really remember the amazing bits.

Good luck its 100% worth it!

That bit of road is a nightmare, someone nearly had me earlier in the year trying to overtake between cars parked on the opposite sides of the road. I tried catching them up but they sped off.
I live on the beach and if I see them about I’ll let them know you’re looking for them

    Hi muggomagic

I live on that road about 100 meters west of that photo, only moved 6 weeks ago and already seen loads of near misses! Loving Shoreham beach though!
