as a vaguely related aside; i heartly enjoy a regular perusal of this: https://ico.org.uk/action-weve-taken/enforcement/

As already mentioned track down the DPO (or the person that foolishly agreed to be DPO in a last minute panic back  in may 2018).

The council have borrowed the existing road to make the cycle lane, either by moving the parking further into the road or removing it altogether.

Sometimes the bike lane is running behind a row of parked cars, sometimes next to the road.

Because the traffic lights were on the original pavement it always runs inside those. There are several junctions with traffic lights and at some points the lane is bollarded off here. Because there are no crossings at these junctions and  joining cars can’t enter the bike lane, people don’t tend to stop for those lights. There is no signage to the contrary and i’m not sure of the actual rules here but it sems to be the general consensus not to stop.

This one however was a definate pedestrian crossing over both the road and the bike lane. I can only think the gentleman was confusing this for one of the other junctions.

His partner was there too and she was shaking her head and looking at me like i’d just murdered a kitten. Riding off i had to question myself a bit.

But no, now i’m not going to claim i’ve never skipped a red light but i do draw the line at mowing people down

I bet you even pay road tax.

Damn straight i do. and because it pays for the taffic lights i reserve my right to use them to thier fullest capacity.

They always seem to send mine via the app in the middle of the night, resulting in me laying awake deciding what to spend it on (bikes probably).

I’m then forced to sneak downstairs to login and check, risking the wrath of the wife or the danger of waking the kids.

    Invariably for £3.20

Apple are not about to suddenly do a black friday 25% off are they?!!? :) :)

John Lewis have £20 off a series 9 at the moment which i think will be about as good as i get.

As my main health data will come from whoop (waiting for black friday on that one) i could probably just get an Apple watch SE but only getting the series nine as i hope i can use it in low power mode and get the 36 hours of battery, and i’m intreagued by these new gestures.

watch apple drop a SE with the s9 chip next week :)

    thanks for the advice/opinions

Having recently swapped from Android to iPhone I’m a little disappointed I can only dismiss notifications on my Fenix 6. Using an Android phone I had the option to delete emails or mark messages as read. I’m assuming apple let the Apple Watch do that stuff and more but 3rd party watches are hamstrung. Unless I’ve missed something in the set up?

    thats my understanding yea.

where as the Apple Watch has a little keyboard where you can reply Yup, no, cool etc – which is about the limit of my texting

Other than Apple Pay, what features of the Apple Watch will a Garmin not give you?

TBH i’ve not even used apple pay on my iphone – just like the idea :)

As mentioned by others here i think its just the similarity to my other devices that appeals – my old garmin (it was old) was very clunky.

I’d also like to be able to leave my phone well alone  at home in the evenings but the nature of my work means i have to reply to the odd message – as i understand the Fenix is not so suited to this.

I work for a small charity in Leeds with tired office furniture that could do with an upgrade. I fear the logistics may be a challenge, but happy to explore if you got an ad you can share with photos/specs etc?

I’m WFH today but in the office tomorrow so will get some better details to you then.

thanks @reluctantjumper i feared that might be the case.

Tried charities like BHF but they are not interested. Unfortunalty although these desks are very good quality, they bolt together in banks with heavy duty cable routing, so not really WFH material.

@pat12 – is your bike all sorted now?

How are you finding the rear hub motor? I am looking at an Orbea Vibe which uses the same system.

would be keen to hear your thoughts!

Its fixed and on its way back to me (i hope!)

Its hard for me to say as i’ve not ridden an alternative motor but i really like the bike as it looks just like a standard bike – i think if i stripped out all the ‘e’ parts, battery ect it would actually still be a nice enough bike.

As i understand its a harder system to de-restrict if you wish and the devices available only give a 20% increase but i’m happy as is.

I’ve heard you shouldn’t use a lead acid battery inside unless it’s vented to the outside. Is this true, and should the bods who did the quote have known this?

Apparently so. The starter battery in my van is vented outside but not the two 110Ah flooded lead acid ones that are installed under the internal seat!

Its one of the reasons i’ve gone with gel’s for the replacements.

There is a split charger. These are the original batteries that came in the van – they weren’t great to start with but i’ve not driven it since oct and the batteries were flat when i left it.

I also let my 3 year old have a pee in the toilet and forgot to empty it.

I’ve a lot to learn about motorhome ownership :)

I did advertise the soil and someone paid for 1 grab load

Not sure what i’m going to get out of here is “soil” in the pure sense of the word – the raised section looks supiciously simlar in size to what i imagine the foundations of the extension would have been.

The whole garden is block pavers which need to come up so i might try marketplace for those?

I’m assuming as well that with the skip you’d be shoveling it yourself?

Sadly yes, unless tomorrow nights lotto comes good.

I’m not far from you and used Harris Grab Hire, they were one of the more responsive companies. I had about 15 bulk bags of soil collected and they collected with an 8 wheel grab that can take 17 tons.

PS They much prefer it loose rather than bagged, they emptied them into the lorry and dropped the bags back anyway, but I had them from a bulk delivery and meant I could store lots of soil without it spilling off the garden.

Thanks spooky – i’ll call them first.

yea i was planning to put a few sheets of OSB on the drive and just pile it all on top.

Generally a grab will take 2.5x the volume a skip will, but lothe rry is limited by overall weight more so than volume

    Thanks Jim

so just to clarify if i have a bit more than would go in an 8 yard skip a grab would probably be better value (because i think i was pushing it with an 8 yard)

Well to answer the original question, not very well at the moment….

    https://singletrackworld.com/forum/topic/warranty-does-this-seem-fair/

When i had the bike, Orbea Gain D50 it was great!

My commute was about 40 mins each way on the normal bike, its pretty flat but there is quite a lot of stopping for junctions/lights etc. The thing i notice about the ebike is that it accelerates super quick and you can go from stopped to 15mph with very little effort. I find this means most of my effort is focused on pedalling the bike at above the 15mph so i think i ride faster than before.

I had no idea about ebikes when i got it but i was worried id lose the fitness aspect (think i thought it was like a motorbike 😋) but actually i’m as knackered if not more than on my standard bike.

Its knocked 10 mins each way off my commute which was one of the 2 reasons i got it for.

Second reason and where i really find the benefit is that my ride is along the seafront and the way home is into the prevailing wind. On a windy dark day it was a real drag (literally)
could be a 50 min miserable grind especially if it was wet.

Some days i’d just leave the bike in the office and get the train. With the ebike i can just sit at 15mph and still get back in 35 mins.

paying about £30 a month on the bike to work scheme so was a no brainer for me.

Yeah me to – the way in which speed is shed when breaking got me. I can’t remember the exact numbers but it was something like if 2 cars break to a full stop at the same time, one doing 70 and one 100mph, and the car doing 70 stops just before crashing into something, the car doing 100mph is still doing around 70mph when it hits.

Yea i found that interesting and the stuff about the impact forces at different speeds.

Hazy now but i’m pretty sure i never learned about that stuff when i took my test. But i will admit to doing “just enough to pass” (because i was 17)
