    @stumpyjon

no selective moral high ground! i would have the same attitude if the op had posted about New Zealand, Libya, Bahrain, Tunisia, Afghanistan, Iraq, Iran, Syria, Australia……

but he didn’t, he posted about shimano/japan!

you may have had no intention, but you must see how insensitive and offensive this is?

my friends parents are still missing, their town isn’t there anymore. if i could swap riding for their safety i’d never get on a bike again!

please don’t reply! just let this drop down the page

to be honest, i don’t think you could go wrong with either! both are great bikes and both have great customer service, as long as you don’t go through silverpish! (you can read why i have such a low opinion of sivlerpish in my history)

both these bikes were on my short list. i ended up with the 5spot.

please, please, please stop posting these ridiculous fat bikes!

i haven’t any money to spend on a new bike and i really want a fat bike!

i’ve recently moved and now live 3 mile away from miles and miles of beach :|

    @ op look great!

    none of them are perfect…

the remote is well worth the extra money. i like the fact that in “oh ****” moments i can get the saddle out of the way quickly, without taking my hands off the bars.

Same old argument coming up again its the wheels of few against the feet of many! Common sense applies here.

    +1

if there are existing tracks, paths, i really don’t see the issue.
if bike riders are cutting new trails then i could understand the argument.
in my experience walkers are more likely to stray from the path than bikers.

    again

This is a very special and fragile landscape of international importance

if this is the case then why are thousands of walkers allowed to walk all over it every year?

as said above who’s more likely to stray from the path, walkers or bikers?

brooklyn machine works. great customer service, but the owner is a mate, so doesn’t really count.

turner. again great customer service if thing go wrong.

i can only remember one truly crap bike, and that was a spooky motorhead. they went bust a couple of weeks after i got my frame. so no help what so ever.

i want brooklyn to build me one! not demon!
You do know that the original builders arn’t making Brooklyns any more don’t you. They were taken over and the original frame builders left…

you do know that is bollocks! please get your facts right!

one of the original partners (doc) left to do his own thing.
the other partner (joe) is still there making bikes and bits for his truck!

joe and family are very good friends of mine…

i’m a dog owner and love dogs but…

if you hear the dog coming, get off your bike and keep the bike between you and the dog.

as it tries to bite you through the frame, kick/stamp it hard! if this doesn’t stop it, use your bike as a weapon.

last summer on my local ride, i’d stopped to let a dog walker past on a bit of double track. rode off next thing the dog has got its teeth in my leg, making me crash off the side of the trail. before the dog could get to me again, i went for it, **** **** i’m gonna **** kill you you **** **** (i must of looked mental  ) if i could of got my hands on it,i’d of beat the shit out of it.
the owner was going mad! telling me to leave his dog alone. i was **** livid, so walk up show him the puncture wounds on my calf. his answer, oh but it’s only a little bite! i don’t know how i didn’t punch him.
i gave him a little more advise and walked away. i’ve never bumped into him again?

and yes i still hold a grudge :D

Maybe you should talk to Tom at Demon Frameworks. He’s a UK builder turning out exceedingly pretty stuff like this:-

bos deville, work just as well as the float. (better imo but the last 36 i had was a 05/06) cheeper, lighter and need a service once a year, not every 20 hrs.

or replace the whole thing with some Shimanos.

I am shocked and appalled that you said that. Shimano breaks are the biggest pile of crap i’ve ever seen, non serviceable and either on and off or pull to the bars.

not in my experience, (apart from servicability) have used saints, slx for downhill and have xt on my trail bike.
    plenty of modulation…

    (troll)hopes in the alps, no(troll)

make sure you do a full bleed, with a NEW bottle of dot?.

contaminated dot fluid boils at a lower temperature and causes brake fade. not something you want when your doing 30+ and the only thing do stop you going over a cliff is a pile of tv sized boulders.
i know through experience. i put a dent in my head and more importantly i put a large dent in my brooklyn. i have only had brakes that use mineral oil ever since.

if you feel the need for new brakes, ime magura are the best i’ve used.

as said on the other thread, just go ride your bike how it is. your work out what you need and what you don’t.

not so long ago people rode the same bike for dh and xc.
