I’m distressed by Arthur’s overly flat crotch (and that’s something I never saw myself ever typing). Like an Action Man 🙁

Yoshimi – I know where you mean and it was still there in about ’89 (about the time I escaped from Bury :D).

Top of the south loop was still closed on Tuesday night – if you’re driving over, you could park up in Thornthwaite which would give you an extra climb and a very nice downhill on the end.

Cheers Anc – I’ll amend the list in that case 🙂

What’s it like descending down Gasgale Gill anc – carrying up from Force Crag mine and down that way is on my ‘potential to do’ list.

A couple of friends have so I’ll probably ride up on the day. The Wild Boar’s also up that way later in the year – just over the other side of Lords Seat: http://www.singletrackworld.com/2009/02/wild-boar-24-mountain-bike-challenge/

Good stuff – enjoy the rides. I might be heading around the back of Skiddaw myself on Sunday morning to check this out:

So I might see you en route 🙂

Graham’s full then. There’s also http://www.cumbriahouse.co.uk/ – they’re bike friendly (although I think the shed is being demolished !). If you get really stuck for storage, give me a shout and you can lock your bikes in my shed overnight 😀

ir-bandito – is this the route you’re referring to:

Is there much carrying, does it get quite boggy in places, and how would the descents be for a friend on a fully rigid ?

    Cheers.

Cheers trekster – will do (you might regret the offer though :D)

If you live within riding distance, it’s a nice alternative some of the natural stuff (great at night) and there’s more interesting riding than there was in the past (especially the south side as it was mostly dead ends unless you took a few cheeky detours). However, it’s obviously much busier than it was, so swings and roundabouts I suppose. I like it though.

and then they made them heavier by adding metal mudguards:

A blue Tomahawk – (not mine and not me I’m afraid)

and later on, a Mongoose California:

It gets very boggy over by Blea Tarn – however, Thirlmere to Watendlath and down to Rosthwaite is a good route (if you’re lucky with the weather). I sometimes add a trip over High Rigg onto the start (north of Thirlmere above St. Johns in the Vale).

simonfbarnes once posted a link to piccies of a bogtrotters ride that included Stonethwaite over to Grasmere via Eagle Crag and Greenup Edge. I keep meaning to try that one out.

I have a set of MX Pro Eta 07s – I like them. They’ve withstood everything I’ve thrown at them so far (riding in the north lakes).

The main roads are fine and Friday / Saturday’s forecasts are good. Snow is forecast for Sunday at the moment.

Mountain rescue have also found the body of that missing guy on Bowfell..

Yep – I’ve been living and riding in Keswick for about ten years now; I haven’t been out on a Tuesday ride for a couple of years though…since my kids came along I can’t get out that early in the evening.

I’m thinking the same as you though – looking out of my window even Walla Crag looks like it’ll be icey, never mind Sticks Pass. I might hold fire on that route until the weather changes 😀

Are you in Keswick yourself Frith ?

Cheers Fagus – my email’s parkedtigerATyahooDOTcom

Has anyone ridden much up above Wythop – I’ve been up Sale Fell in the past but was going to have a nosey around Ling Fell / Broom Fell / Embleton High Common on Sunday (maybe find a way onto Lords Seat eventually then drop down the North Loop and back into Thornthwaite). Looks like it could be wet though. I’m told there’s a Corpse Road around there somewhere but it’s not marked on the (ye olde) OS I have here at work.

How’d you find the other end Fagus, say if you’re facing the front of Skiddaw House ?

    parkedtiger

Oh – there is a trail goes over Sale How from near the summit of Skiddaw that’s not marked on maps – brings you down to Skiddaw House. I keep meaning to try that one.

I know the routes you mean Sanny – I’ve never ridden them, but looking up from Dodd, it’s really just a steep scree valley with a stream down the middle coming from Broad End. The footpath down to Carl Side and over White Stones into Millbeck – that’s a ride 😀 I remember Bassenthwaite Common being very boggy the one time I walked around that way with the mutt.

http://www.cycleactive.co.uk/ do organised weekends I believe. They’re North Lakes – near Penrith.

Local lakes ride – thinking of High Rigg, Great How, Threlkeld Mine for a Sunday morning jolly; or maybe Whinlatter as I haven’t been around the north loop for a while.

Next time you’re in Keswick Richyb, give anc and I a shout and we’ll all go and take a look together 😀

On the map, the split in the bridleway at ‘Resting Stones’ is the end of the steep section in your photo. The left fork (looking down in a map view) takes you down through Frith Wood to Borrowdale Road; the right fork is the rest of the vid. Do you mean the footpath down to Hazel Bank maybe ?

    parkedtiger

Not wanting to wave Max’s willy Richyb, (least not without rubber gloves :?…would that get me some freebies if I pop down to the shop tomorrow..on second thoughts, no :-)), I think he’s just gone down so quick you don’t notice and the vid flattens it out a bit. I have to pick my way down there like a normal human. It’s the section on the vid from crossing the stream until you see the sheep.

    parkedtiger

Then the track turns left and you come to the gate (on your right) for Frith Woods ?

Isn’t that picture the section Max is dropping down from 0.55 to 1.20 ?

Cheers Richc – I ride natural stuff in the north lakes and have been using the 2.1 Advantages. I agree…I’ve had my front go a couple of times when leaning over. I might give the High Rollers a go.
