The Langstrath Inn at Stonethwaite is good for a pint.

If you're setting off from Rosthwaite on the second day, you could try something like…

    http://www.bikehike.co.uk/mapview.php?id=16448

…dropping you out at pub in Wasdale (bit cheeky over Haystacks).

One possible Patterdale to Buttermere route:

    http://www.bikehike.co.uk/mapview.php?id=16439

You could always come over Sticks Pass rather than take the Coach Road (a fair amount of hike a bike though)…also it can get a bit boggy coming over to Watendlath from Thirlmere.

Anyone descended down from Hinsgarth down to little town?

I've walked it, and a few of the KMB Tuesday night guys rode it not long ago (are you there Stoney ?). I think it's only towards the bottom that you might have to walk a section (or two).

If you can find it – The Living Dead At The Manchester Morgue:

    EDIT –

    a proper budget

sorry – ignore that recommendation 🙂

it's a scramble off the top but alright not long after.

I had assumed one would push up there from the Altura and then go down Hobcarton…

Going from Braithwaite – Barrow Door – Outerside – Sail – Crag Hill – Sand Hill – Grisedale…Sleet How , (but yes, Hobcarton is a better descent I think).

How about the descent through Rigg Quarry…

…from High Spy down to Grange in Borrowdale. Painful and impossible for me 😥

Anyone rode down Grisedale Pike to Braithwaite?

Down Sleet How ? Like paulrockliffe said – it's a scramble off the top but alright not long after. I've only descended that way a few times and I've never seen anyone clear the top bit.

Stoney – we went over Hopegill Head and tried dropping off the end of Whiteside last night. Fun but I don't think I'll be trying that one again 😯 Are you riding over the weekend ?

The wall is bloddy brilliant, so I must be missing out on something special.

Paul – the wall approximately follows the red line; the other route follows the blue; highly recommended:

Hobcarton, do you mean along the ridge to Hobcarton End

That's the fella. You can see a track way off in the distance from the summit – just head towards it and the route quickly appears. Watch out when you hit the tree line and day turns to night 🙁

They're not bad trails but if I lived down that way I doubt I'd do any man made stuff.

They have their place – when the weather's really bad or for a quick blast, they're ideal 🙂

Get to the top of that and there's an absolutely mental descent along the side of the wall back into the Forest. You can pedal a fair bit of the last climb, but you'll have to carry/push onto the summit.

Time that well though – the climb up Grisedale is a popular footpath…and rather than taking the ridge that the wall follows, take the next ridge to the left (Hobcarton). One of the best descents around 🙂

I'll second that. I'm in Peebles for a week – are there any other recommended routes (Innerleithen and / or natural) 🙂

+1 to the all of the above. I can't remember who made ours (Karrimor maybe), but the padding at your child's chin / face level was removable for washing…frequently. Avoid ice lollies and ice cream when they're on your back 😥

Not more than 30 minutes – avoid Keswick town centre by staying on the A66 and turn off at Braithwaite.

Rowans, blackberries, apples, and bilberries are all looking good; plums, sloes, and damsons too (usually late September here – north lakes). The wild garlic was good this year but the cherries were a no show again (third year running ???). Lots of fungi around but I'm no shroomer 😕

Christ, what have they done to Skiddaw? That's really sad.

I came off Helvellyn down Sticks Pass this afternoon and the bomb holes at the top have been filled 🙁 (although now there's a series of fast dips / jumps, which were fun, but more in keeping with a trail centre 😕 )

There's digger part way down so I don't think the sanitizing has finished just yet.

…and here with the Ullock descent – it can get busy during the day though (cheeky):

I was going to go and have a look on Sunday morning if the weather's good. If not, it's Sticks Pass from Thirlmere.

You picked the right night Andy_K – we were on the allotments having a BBQ and Skiddaw looked great from below. Like Stoney mentioned, arguably the best route down is Ullock Pike (cheeky and fun technical though) – although Stoney and the others might have found a new route last Sunday 😉

You should pop over on a Tuesday if you can for a KMB ride (6.30 at The Pedlar)

In their defence, they've been spot on with me regarding the server issues. This morning, I received confirmation that yesterday's order has been dispatched and the following:

    Hi there,

Firstly, I apologize for the problems you have been experiencing.

CRC is currently running a new server at present it is running in tandem with the old server as the address of the new version has not filtered through to everywhere yet.

As soon as all users on the old site have been removed then this will cease to be accessible, we will transfer the information held there to the new one.

The server swap is the reason you are having issues logging in or seeing orders in your account. The situation will be resolved when the information moves over.

Until then please bear with us, the improvement in speed and stability should be worth it.

Thanks for the update Andy. I'm the same – having placed an order this morning which is no longer visible when I log into my account. However, 'Caroline' has been really helpful via email so I'd recommend that route if anyone else is having problems (as long as I get my new rear mech by Saturday 🙂 )

I just picked up one of these on sale at CRC…

    http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=15340

…and it stood up 100% to the downpours during last night's ride 😀

It's a generous cut which should allow for a few extra layers come winter. However, the price was £49 when I purchased on Sunday – now it's up to £69 😕

Tom – if you come down on a Tuesday, have a word with Graham. He seems to have tested every bike KMB stock recently 😀 (he was out on a Cove Stiffee last night).

Even six years hadn't numbed the pain completely then 😀

I don't find Sticks Pass too bad as a route up. It's a steep carry initially but the top half is ridable. I usually just descend straight down the other side of Sticks, through Dockray, and back (to Keswick) via the Coach Rd.

Another fun route from Thirlmere is west, over the tops via Blea Tarn to pick up the Borrowdale Bash from Watendlath.
