There's a bench near the summit of Latrigg and under normal conditions you can see a couple of trails descend from there. Through the trees, and you pop out near the bottom of Spoony Green Lane – which is an ice rink at the moment 🙂

I think the person who managed to stay upright more than anyone was Dave who made the vid !

I took my loan out in '91 – currently, I need to earn over £27,050 to begin repaying and the interest rate is -0.4%. The loan is due to be wiped in 2016.

You'll be okay coming down the A66 from Penrith to Keswick – it's a bit crazy if you try to head further west though.

Yep – I just pulled one out last night. The left hand pad had worn out and the spring came out just like your pic.

I've just had a text from the mrs – the Greta has burst it's banks in Keswick again. It's just the park side at the moment but is close to the top of the flood bank at Crosthwaite rd, (and it's still raining) 🙁

How is it down your end Stoney – we've probably got some refugees from Crosthwaite Road coming to stay this evening. Poor buggers 🙁

Are they Avid's own pads ? I find that Avid's pads go in pretty easy whereas some other brands just won't 🙁

EDIT: sorry…there's the answer – I was busy typing ! If you succeed I'd be very interested in the technique !

Hells Bells, you might as well just order a complete unit from DX instead of just a battery pack!!!!

    Yep – that's what I'll be doing.

Had a response – they supply battery packs…

'…They are £48 + postage. This is about £3 depending on postage type…'

…and it sounds like they keep a stock – they said they would dispatch one upon receipt of my cheque.

I've just mailed them to see if they have any plans to sell the battery pack separately. I'll post their response.

Does smudge offer a battery / charger that would work with the DX light do you know – I'd be up for buying a spare battery 😀

Yep – my charger did exactly the same the second time I used it. DX replaced it; it took about six weeks from my first email to the charger arriving.

Edit – in fact…looking at your images again, the burn out was around that same resistor and capacitor.

You could take her out on the Brundholme road and up the shoulder of Latrigg – that's an easy one:

    http://www.bikehike.co.uk/mapview.php?id=24419

Once you're at the top, see how she feels. You could carry on to Skiddaw House or drop back down into town – or even head back the way you came and into Threlkeld for lunch, then back down the railway line. There are also plenty of tracks criss-crossing the front of Latrigg that you could explore; stick to double track stuff though – anything that's singletrack will probably get steep and might be a bit too techincal for her.

Yep – be very careful not to accidentally take that turn 😀

Might see you up there ChatsworthMusters – although I have to head out at about 8 a.m. tomorrow to get a ride in 😥

As you come off the first section of the North loop and hit the fire road, it's just on your right (on the bend).

It's tricking getting over to Lords Seat from Sale / Wythop Hall these days paulrockliffe – the best way I've found is to go cross country from behind Ling Fell onto Broom. Much more fun in the other direction though 😀

(seems a shame to me that the blue loop has a quite long fireroad descent (shortly after the start) rather than going through the foresty bit to the side – is it too boggy in there or something ?)

There's a cheeky shortcut by the lodges that takes you down to the bridleway to Thornthwaite (Seldom Seen) – you drop too far though and would end up having to ride up a similar amount of fireroad.

I don't find Whinlatter more slippy than anywhere else around here – I was on Dodd and Ullock on Sunday and it's the same root / slate. Just what you're used to I think – I'm rubbish on wet grass and am on my bum in under 30 secs.

Try 'Stalin' by Edvard Radzinsky. It covers the period approx 1900 to 1939 really well. Nicely written too..there's a paperback version as well:

What is frustrating is they are not responding to emails or their "send us a question" system. I am not happy, though it may be a glitch

Monty – my charger melted and died first time out. I have had a couple of responses from their customer service but they're very very slow (takes about three or four days to get a reply) Still no confirmation on a replacement charger being dispatched as yet (after four weeks 🙁 )

Are there any battery experts out there know where I might get hold of a suitable charger for the DX's lithium batteries ?

user-removed…you can take in most of the ascent of south loop then you're off the altura trail. It's not technical at all – grassy slopes mostly. Crossing the valley from Graystones to Ling Fell is a bit of a leap of faith as there are no tracks or paths – but as long as you fix on the 'bottom left' of the opposite (Ling) fell, you can't fail to hit the right bridleway eventually 🙂

Thinking about it – it might not be the best place to take your 'mincers' if you've already been around the red and blue routes. You could just drop off Broom Fell and go left at Widow Hause. Head into the woods and you can pick up the fireroads back down to Spout Force or Darling How.

Another alternative would be to carry straight on at the end of the long fireroad climb on the north loop. Take the right at the fork in the track, climb for a few minutes, over the fence and you're on the top of Lords Seat. You can then follow the tops to Graystones, cross the valley and do Ling and Sale Fells, then drop into Thornthwaite and back to the Royal Oak 😀

Cheers Dave – the 'other' charger is not lithium specific (came with a lead acid battery) so I'll not be plugging that in 🙂
