Not sure about Helvellyn, but the snow was waist deep on top of Skiddaw last Saturday. It's been a pretty sunny week though and the snow looks to be gradually receding towards the tops up here (Keswick).

Update Akira; your mail order colleagues have offered to dispatch an alternate set of guards right away and I don't have to pay the difference 😀

Morning anc – thanks for the update…I didn't head that way in the end, I thought I'd take advantage of the hard frost and went up to Blea Tarn / High Tove above Thirlmere – as it's usually such a bog I took the oppotunity to do a little exploring off the beaten track.

I haven't up Outerside / High Moss way since the floods and snow – we do seem to be coming across a wash out or land slide on every trail at the moment. Can't fight mother nature I guess 🙂

He'd be fine on the way up Skiddaw – it's coming down the other side you have to worry about 😉

😆 The only 'appeal' of Tumors is the fact that it's the last place to close ! (Well….let's not mention The Loft eh).

Hi mrvear – quite a few guys come over from your way / west coast to Keswick on a Tuesday evening. 18.30 at the Pedlar cafe on Bell Close car park if you fancy it.

There's also the climbing wall[/url] up past the Stone Circle.

If you're desperate for a drink after 11, ask for directions to the Queen's back bar or Rumours (known locally as Tumors); but only if you're desperate !

Ullock Pike – have you ever looked back at the top section off the summit and thought that in that rarest of ways, it looks even steeper from below? marvellous!

I always find it's the drop off to the right that's really distracting 🙂

Another plus 1 for the Hobcarton route off Grisedale Pike – we came down there last night funnily enough. Here's the route Sanny (the blue line):

Karnali – that's maybe Rigg Beck you're thinking of. Don't climb from there; the best route is up from Braithwaite, right at Barrow Door onto the path from Stoney Croft, up around the back of Causey then straight across to drop into Rigg Beck and down to (what was) the Purple House. Great descent but there's a lot of damage from the floods / snow 🙁

Good idea – after coming down Rigg Beck the other night, I have this craving to tool it down Gasgale Gill having not been down there for so long. Saying that, it's such a hike up from Braithwaite you've got to make the downhill count eh. I might have to make a detour left if the weather's on my side 😉

It's all clear of snow. There are a few bits of the bridleway going up from Manesty (just after the pink houses you'll see on your left heading back towards Keswick) that are a push since the floods washed debris down off Hause Gate. The terrace on the side of Catbells also has some flood damage to watch out for. Have fun 🙂
