thanks, I think splitting it would make sense, would probably get better money that way

To get a decent good condition bike at that price i would look at 26 inch wheels as there are some real bargains to be had. A Giant Anthem would be on my list.

These are high quality DT hubs and a very light wheelset
The only pair ever sold on ebay went for £186 plus post

I have the jawbreaker photochromics and they are so good I got rid of all my other glasses- not cheap, but if looked after will last a decade. I sold my 2003 M frames for £35 on ebay- this worked out as £4 a year in depreciation.
They often are included in wiggle spend and save sales, I bough standard one and a separate lens and sold the original lens on, making them work out as £85 on spend and save.

Damacsus- the tallboy 2 is the new 100mm travel frame, a few tweaks and a rear axle but not much else from the original. I ride xc and it doesnt come with tyres as I’m having a frame and building it up. Cheers

VCR version and full course 3 times for me (270k), its one to look back on with huge satisfaction. I think procycling compared to Etape to a sunday morning club run when comparing the toughness of Roubaix to other sportives. Big width tyres, run at lower pressure, bar gel and pain killers all essential. Completely agree 140k otherwise you wont get the experience and satisfaction.

Agree at that budget go for handbuilts for all the reasons already stated. The handbuilts on the hardly used second hand market via ebay and the like go cheap- I once saw a set of tune hubs on DT rims with sapim spokes go for just 311 quid and they had been used once.

I’m also think of a tallboy carbon (not LTC), with 100mm forks, for general xc/trail riding, would love to hear long term ownership experiences, and real down sides (ie low BB- ant ground strikes?), and whether getting a 2013 model with the rear axle would be worth it?
Does the unpainted carbon finish wear well or mark/damage really easily?
Any experiences shared would be great- thanks in advance

In 2004 they made a street-x model which was the bike with a headshok and discs, it had the same frame as the cyclocross bikes and was intender as a winter/commuter bike- put cannondale street x into google images.

A lot of 6 pack frames were white, seen a few dw 5 spot and flux front triangles, on youtube DT talks about the 2010(??) flux at interbike and its all white.

I am medically qualified- had a mate who is also a Dr who had the same issue after being set up by a bike shop in terms of his riding position, when he took up cycling- symptoms were exactly the same, developed on bike, ached for ages after, lateral (outside) aspect of both knees, and took at least a week to settle down each time.
I put his seat up, and moved saddle position slightly, meaning his legs went up and down in a straight line and not pushing outwards at the top of the pedal stroke, which essentially caused his ankles to supinate in compensation and stretch the lateral ligaments of his knee. Without looking at your position I cant diagnose or say for sure its the same issue but trying it is certainly free of charge!!

+1 for turtlewax car shampoo for general bike cleaning esp mtb. Completey agree avoid washing up liquid due to salt. Mucoff is great for cleaning ingrained road dirt of road wheel rims though- nothing comes close for me.

yes I was thinking of a f120 due to superb reliability Ive had in last 7 years of fox forks- I could always have spacers added if I change my mind

I have a 2005 HL 5 spot (5.3 inches travel) and a flux dw frame on order- I’ll keep you posted!! Obviously not exactly the same bike but I’ll be able to feed back red pedalling performance etc

I presume you are considering DW link frames only? If coming from a xc hardtail i would get a flux. The latest 5 spot is built around 140-160mm forks, designed with chain guides in mind, I for one would consider it far too cabable for me but still own a 2005 horst link 5 spot which I am very fond of and more suited to my riding.

    Hi Funky
Glad to hear you are getting better!
Make sure you get the follow up xray done, if there was still any residual shaddowing they may ask for a CT just to ensure they are not missing anything- unlikley as you are feeling better

Well said Hock! If wheel size is irrelevant we wouldn’t have 29ers in the first place.

I own the turner and have had no reliability issues in 3 years; apparently some 09 flux frames cracked and I heard they were all replaced by turner with new ones. Another plus for the turner would be the bushings and ease of maintaining them- running as well after 3 years as when new.

I agree Bowglie, this was a really good piece of advice and I had presumed that 29ers might all have a certain feel. Pity people like tazzymtb can’t keep away from posts others actually find quite helpful.

Zulu,he was telling me a lot more in the history than the words in front of you, but if you were not a doctor you wouldn’t realise that. I also didn’t ‘prescribe’ any treatment, that is for his own medical team, I offered advice on recovery, as have others, which is what he requested which has all been very sound. The reason I rarely bother to post on medical topics is that people need to see their Dr, and be properly examined, I posted solely to advise on recovery.
    Get well soon Funky.
