charging more and more for car use is just a way to extract cash and does little to reduce usage in situations where people have no alterntive. If the powers that be really wanted fewer cars on the road then they would provide alterntives that are more appealling, for example, lots of good cycle lanes, secure bike parking and showers per x number of staff. They would also encourage working from home.

the 2nd half when he going it alone – holy ****, how fast? My brain wouldn't work fast enought to process that, never mind the complete lack of skill.

cheers for posting that – excellent clip.

it is a disgrace, they can spend money on bombs and yet do nothing to give us a bit of respite from the crap climate.

that said – I think keeping the clocks on british summer time may make it slightly less bad than usual in Oct

I was looking at the boardman pro in halfords today while the mrs was buying a new roof box after smashing the last one into bits driving under a car park barrier.

Looked like a lot of bike for the £, light and fast.

with premium bonds you are gambling with the intrest, which u will not get back and stat wise, the return on premium bonds is quite low.

    Spread it by risk.

Put max amount in an instant access Isa (£5k cash now?)

Snag with shares is u need the money in 4 months, which makes it a gamble as u can't just wait until they go back up. Maybe put £10k in, watch like a hawk and don't get get greedy and/or panic.

When making espresso in a stovetop, how much espresso do I then water down to make a mug? Are we talking a shot glass? 50:50? Something else??

A typical espresso bassed drink will have 1 or 2 shots of coffee topped up with water/milk/milk froth. This is prob circa 10 – 20% of the total drink volume.

    Here's what i do –

stick the stove top pot (2 cup size) on the cooker

heat a mug of milk for 1 min in microwave

froth milk up with one of those cheap aerolatte hand held thingies

    pour in coffee

(or u can heat half a mug of milk and top up with boiling water)

Tastes as nice as anything I've had from a machine, with the exception of my mate rod who spent about a grand on brewing gear and is an expert in the field

I totally agree with the following statement

Insurance should follow the continental ( think )lead of the highest powered vehicle involved in a colision always being at fault.
I think that would concentrate the mind beautifully

Drivers won't like it but it will force them to give more vunerable road users a wide birth.

I predict a Coed y Brenin cafe stlye FC approach

Treat the existing cafe owers who were largely responsible for the success of the whole place like crap, while on the other hand trying to appear super ethical by installing non flush urinals etc in the new atmosphere vacuum service station style cafe.

That said, maybe the new place won't have one gruby bog for the +80% of male customers and several gleaming traps for the relatively much lower number of female visitors.

If she seems more gutted about breaking up with this guy rather than over what she's done then u have to leave her in my opinion. All this talk about u being partly at fault and having to stick at it because of the kids is bollocks, how much of a chance did she give your family before tapping off with this bloke who is 'the one'? All relationships go through ups and downs, but just getting involved with someone else before you try an hold your own family together is a lame/easy choice.

If you forgive her when she's not even looked for it, then you'll be a doormat and/or in a constant state of uncertainty for years to come.

Leave now. In time you may be able to sort it out but you cannot continue living with someone who has treated you like crap.

I've done a few of them from cheadle in the winter and really like them. They have a proper cycling atmosphere to them, with brews at the start, cafe stop(s) on way round and tea and cakes at the end in a church hall. Only cost a few quid as well. I always plot the route into a GPS as it saves messing about with the route card.

To answer you question about joining – I was in the CTC so that covered it, otherwise u can pay a couple more quid with entry for 3rd party insurance.

IME, I see more and more people looking really scruffy in suits, largely becasue they aren't able to dress themselves properly before they leave the house.

well at least we agree less people are wearing them, but a nice shirt/suit/shoes are hardly transformed into something scruffy due to lack of a tie.

Are you by any chance quite old and even wear a tie down the allotment?

[rant]I'd like to naively think people may take slightly less interest in football and footballers after the dire england effort in the world cup, but come 1st ten minutes of the new season everyone will be worshipping the ground that rooney, lampard etc walk on and they'll be collecting their ~£120k per week after enjoying a longer than expected summer break getting papped in a VIP retreat in the Caribbean.[/rant]

ties are like something from a bygone era, like frills around the cuffs of shirts or something from the 1800's that serve no functional purpose what so ever.

IME you see less and less office based people wearing ties and the ones that do just look stuck in the past.

I did work in one place that was basically a tin shed on an industrial estate. The AC went off one summer, it was roasting in the office and some pensioner director sent a message round to tell people to get their ties back on. FFS.

great course – shame I got two flats and even messed up pulling out due to not hanging around until the end. A frustrating learning exercise for me all of my own making.

BUT – at least the mrs didn't go into labour during the event or I would have been in big trouble 😯
