Lord Coe on Radio 4 this morning: “if the flame goes out we will relight it”

Presenter: “but then it won’t be a continuous flame carried all the way”

Lord Coe: “if it goes out, we will relight it and it will be a continuous flame”.

Presenter (in my mind): Lord Coe, you are a horrid tory slime ball.

Prince Charles has someone apply paste to his toothbrush and I think quite ****ing right, tax payers money should be spent on such important things as this otherwise all those looney lefties will blow it on health care and education for the dirty general public, even northerners in some cases.

Apparently, he would have clamped down on peaceful protesters because all the people on the exec board/top table are bankers.

In the same way that if he was high up in the US Republican party who claim to be so close to god, he would kill or let others die in order to progress his own wealth.

    Or not.

    1. My sister in law is a school teacher

She had never heard of the dalai lama and said “are you saying Dilemma?”

    2. Me and the Mrs went looking for a new car and I always try as be informed as possible.

Salesman: What type of car are you looking for?
    The mrs: a turbo-deedle

Use hand gel at work wash hands at home, take echinacea, try and get lots of sleep, drink water, careful to use separate towels etc

    Any more tips?

V Bored of it now and going to buy an NBC suit to wear at home as I’ve prob had one of my worst cycling years ever, not done a single event for the first time in about 10 years. I get the next cold before I’ve got over the previous one.

The STW consensus appears to be that the stone roses were actually crap and/or a reunion is a bad idea so all the bloody sheep start bleating about how they feel the same way. That’ll be why they (the stone roses) will sell out Heaton Park x2 in quarter of an hour at some vastly inflated price.

Sorry guys, but I can’t guarantee that I’ll make this as I won’t get back in UK until late Fri night. Best to scrap the idea of the longer ride at 10am. I may make the shorter one and I’m happy to lead the longer one next time.

    Cheers

If the next one is on for sat 1st october, then I’m happy to show people round the following route. It’s a fair bit longer than last time so not too much time for hanging about, but pace won’t be mental.

Plan is roughly start at the brewery again

    nangreaves
    warmersley golf course
    ‘the ridge’
over the reservoir to rowley moore road
MT loop down to waterfoot (or via lee quarry)
    through waterfoot
    ski slope
    haslingden
    peel tower
technical singletrack all the way back down to the pub

circa 25 miles with 3600ft climb

I’m out of the country all week, so not sure I’ll be able to check this much between now and then but if people are up for it, then we could meet at 10am and leave at 10.30am

Republicans seem to be particularly god fearing, yet very quick to support military action. Revenge seemed to be high on the agenda after 9/11 and I’m not quite sure how that sits with being religious.

possible bits to include next time:

the ridge over by walmersley (sp?) golf course
    pilgrims cross
    shooting range
cheeky dh on the front of holcombe hill

lots of variations to mix and match with what we’ve already done and maybe including lee and cragg quarry.

I’ve got the GPX file of todays route, if anyone wants it, post your email address.

Lets sort a date out for the next one as I have to get it booked with the mrs before she allocates that weekend to some other bobbins.

so in summary it’s 9:30 for a 10:00 start on saturday, meeting at the irwell works brewery?

please note, the neighbouring morrisons car park has a traffic warden on duty all the time and he will get you. If u get stuck for parking, it’s free by the station or in aldi. Re the former, make sure you park correctly in the bay (ie: no tyres on the line), or they charge you £60 for that as well.

No nbt, I am most def still on the waggon, but just trying to spread the real ale love with something a bit different for afterwards. I’d be happy with a brew.

I asked on here and a couple of people posted that it was an utterly brilliant trip. The riding will be technical with exposed sections. It’s vehicle assisted xc, so u do get more down than up, but def not a freeride or DH holiday. There is a day by day account on the above link gives me the expectation of very good riding through stunning terrain, somewhat of a cultural experience as well.

I’m going to get roasted for this, but in my view, alcohol is a horrible drug and shouldn’t be normalized for anyone. According to prof Nutt’s chart of drug harm, alcohol is quite high on the list to be thinking about giving it to kids, but then it’s a drug all wrapped up in adult culture, trips to the pub and fine wines, plus it’s within the law, so it must be ok.
