I used to work in a building with one of these….a patanosta lift. One side goes up, the other comes down. Constantly moves and has no doors. Urban myth in the office was the story of how someone stood on thier head in the bit going down and went upsidedown past some Japanese visitors waiting to get on at the next floor.

I did some road riding (on a road bike) on holiday last week and used a national cycle trail that turned into a gravel path, then a field, then a muddy field, then a swamp.

I’m typing this post from the afterlife.

Don’t mind any of the hassle of having kids as we love them to bits and it’s all part of it, with one exception:

Fixed school holidays are utter utter ****.

I think it’s essential that the person serving in the shop talks to you like a normal human, not looks down their nose at you because they are a ‘dude’ with a job in a bike shop.

Just being reliable, like if they say something will be ready by a certain time, it is or they phone you. Obviously, often things take longer than expected but I don’t have time to wait in the shop for an hour for the work to be finished every single time.

My mate is a gas fitter*. On one job he stuck his head through the floor boards to shout his mate to fetch something but couldn’t get it out. The family dog saw his head and made beautiful doggy love to it.

*Doesn’t live in Rammy. We struggled to find someone local, eventually got a guy from Summerseat but wasn’t great.

I have to renew my home insurance in the next week and have always gone with M&S for the £4k per item limit to cover the bikes. Got the info through the other day and can’t notice anything has changed with this, but heard whispers of otherwise…

    whats the deal?

endura windproof gloves – about £25 and great piece of kit. Ideal for when a summer full finger glove isn’t quite enough but full on winter glove is too much. I wear mine loads road/mtb and they been washed loads of times.

Depressingly regular news stories about the very real failing of the Tory party in the basic duty of government to protect the most needy in society, in fact appearing intent on hammering the sick/elderly/poor/young/disabled etc, while simultaneously stitching things up for themselves/mates.

It is this more than anything which has me blurting expletives at the inanimate object in the corner of the room.

Had various orbit/CC headsets in the past that were OK. All my bikes now have Hope headsets and work perfectly, the oldest being 9 years old and never been touched despite regular use.

It very much looks like the government procurement exercise has been a box ticking process that has gone to the lowest bidder with little or no account taken of the outcome almost certainly being rubbish.

Fixed school holidays and the mrs having a sister she wants to visit abroad has resulted in us only having half terms free until summer 2014.

Its the health visitors and district midwives you want to avoid. Bunch of under-educated quacks the lot of them. They “invite” themselves into your home and spout crap at you. Just tell them to ****off. You are not obliged to meet them.)

I found the absolute opposite to this. Having someone come to your home regularly when you have a new baby does two things (i) gives you the chance to ask questions and provide reassurance all is well (ii) allows them to ensure the baby is well cared for, which I’m sure isn’t required for most people on here, but is in the interest of many babies.

We did the antenatal class offered by the local PCT/NHS, which were good and useful to us both. The Mrs has met loads of friends through local groups and baby sessions (baby yoga, baby massage, baby kung-fu etc).

The NCT route works if you want to find middle class friends, but IMHO not worth paying for over PCT/NHS in terms of finding out information to help look after a baby.

    unsurprising seeing the organising company

To be fair to PE, general feedback on twitter has been that it was well organised. Be supportive of local events, spread the love man. You need a few days in the airing cupboard.

I did Pokhara to Kathmandu with KE about 10 years ago.

It was an ace trip and much more singletrack than some of the other holidays on offer at the time, which looked like multiday slogs on rough roads at high altitude.

I’ve done Manali to Leh on a bus and would not want to cycle that route.

I was supposed to be doing the 160km with notquitegingerRod who normally kicks my ass, so trained properly for 2 months, tapered down and then got a stomach bug on sat that lasted for 48 hours, so spent the day in bed.

Never mind, there will be plenty more chances to ride with a British TDF and Olympic gold medal winner just after they do the double.

    😐

The whole story is highly unusual and will no doubt be made into a good book/film in the future.

It is difficult to know whats happended here, but as someone who works with sensitive material, governments are technically within thier rights to come down hard on people who make public information of a senstive nature because it threatens the safety of individuals and property, no matter how morally wrong the content may be.

The timing of the Swedish case appears very suspect.

He is a bit weird though. And Australian. And good at maths. He apparently invented a complex maths puzzle which he was very good at. Never trust someone who invents their own maths puzzle and is then very good at it.

Ideally, all except the very rich in society will move to the North of England to work long hours in factories with few employment rights, poor education and no health service.

    I can’t stomach anything SIS or High5.

Torq energy I can drink all day at full strength no problem.

Zipvit gels are great, ~68g carbs in each and not a hint of stomach trouble.

I decided to be cautious and bought the tools, figured it would still be cost effective compared to paying a shop and safer. The frames aren’t cheap after all.

The exact conclusion I’ve come to.

One bearing is falling apart as it was put in the wrong way around. I’m guessing the SC tool pushes on the inner race, so in that case am I just going to end up try to get the otter race out with a screw driver and hammer?

I used to sit next to someone at work who’s Mrs knows Mrs Wiggins and their kids play together. That makes us blood brothers and the Cristmas card I’m expecting will take pride of place on the TV.

The athletes have dedicated years of their lives to win a medal for not only themselves, but Team GB, so all this talk of them lacking respect is utter bollocks spouted by people who are just looking for something to moan about.

I really couldn’t give a **** if they sing or not, these athletes have achieved what they set out to do, ie: win medals.

Watch x-factor if you wish to see amateurs singing.

The almost constant maintenance required on mountain bikes.

I’ve hardly done anything to my road bike in 8 years, yet it seems my MTBs have becomae as needy as a helicopter in terms of maintenance. The last few weeks I seem to spend as much time fixing as I do riding, which goes down really well with the Mrs and young kids.

I have 2 set of magura louise, one has a bleed port on the res cap, the other doesn’t. I’m used to bleeding the brakes by taking the res cap off, so do it that way on both sets.

Level the lever, remove res cap, level it perfectly using fluid as a guide and bleed away. Put lots of rags around the lever and pop the res cap back on so excess fluid comes over the top and into rags.

I’ve taken the lid off the reservoir and removed the bladder.

this confused me. Is the little bladder/membrane not attached to the res cap? It should be.
