Diesels don’t like lots of short trips.

9k miles per year is not massive, so questionable if there would be any savings.

less to go wrong on pertrol engine (V modern diesel) and cheaper to fix when it does.

I would go petrol in your situation.

I can lock the wheels out on my road bike in both dry and wet without any trouble.

Only reason I can see to move to discs on a road bike are aesthetics.

David Millar book is the best cycling biography I have read and am actually reading it for the 2nd time at the momment.

Laurent Fignon’s bio is also excellent.

I saw an advert for this KFC mess on the end of a bus stop recently and it made me think that basically, as humans, we are ****ed.

Broken road surface of Hardnott pass on the Fred Whitton after 100 miles in the rain had me walking even with a triple – this climb is the only thing I’ve ever had to walk up with the road bike. Mow cop is easy in comparison.

The ‘person’ the two officers tried to arrest turned himself in at a police station soon afterwards according to the BBC. So he resisted arrest to the extent two officers were killed, then gave himself up.

    An awesome individual.

On the assumption you couldn’t run or use a weapon, I reckon 10 angry regular chickens could do someone over.

The ice cream parlour/farm near us has these huge things. I reckon one of those could mug me for a mint choc chip without too much trouble. I’d worry for the effect on my young son though, seeing his Dad get a public kicking from a hen. It would be an unwinable battle from a human point of view, cos if you punched the hens lights out that wouldn’t go down well and actually be quite hard as they seem to be just a big ball off feathers and your fist would go through them while it pecked at your eyes.

Best to back down me thinks.

As Brant just said on Twitter..I also did the WHW once, one way, over 3 days. But there and back in one go? In that time? In those conditions?

    Like…WOW.

    A stunning achievement.

Massively impressed with my magic shine mj872 can be had for about £80

    +1 here

Got mine off ebay with a battery upgarde. Fitted the light unit with an £8 Hope bar QR and it is bloody brilliant. It’s like the sun coming up when you switch it on and I’ve struggled to actually run it right down as it automatically drops down a setting as the battery runs out.

I think there is a setting somewhere to select which signal it uses (ie: Uk or euro..something like that), make sure it’s set to the region closest to you. The instructions should say how to do it.

    Hope that helps.

The bit about the “non standard XT chain set” is a pathetic excuse to try and wriggle out of a valid warranty claim.

Very poor customer service from Specialized and OP is right to out them on FB after getting no where with them off line.

    another one for Torm.cc

I just bought some arm wamrers from them and very pleased with quality, fit and style.

£4.20 P&P a bit of a nasty sting at the end though.

    Bike related one..

years ago – Stopping after a section of down hill at Coed Y Brenin, this guy comes flying down on a really small full suss bike I I say “nice bike, really small and good for DH”, then he got off, stood upright and was about 4 foot 6 inches tall. Fist in mouth.

Last one – a mate’s other half asked “how do gliders get down”, to which he replied “they send planes up to tow them down”.

Looking at part of the taj mahal I said “it’s beautiful, it looks like hardboard”

In a tent full of Israelis in an expensive tea yurt in the Himalayas I said “how much?? Are you Jewish”

In an interview for a Saturday job at Next when I was 17 they asked “Does your Dad buy clothes here”, to which I replied “no, he tends to buy stuff that lasts”.

Hunt – As demonstrated by his behaviour earlier this year, he is morally weak and easily bought, so ideal to run the NHS while all those wealthy Tory supporting private healthcare providers are trying to bite chunks off it.

Still quite astonishing that someone who came under so much pressure to be sacked in thier last post can be given such an important job. He apparently co-authored a book calling the NHS a 60 year old mistake.

Honestly? No. It comes across as pitiful and spiteful carping from people who really should try harder to help themselves but would like to take a big fat slice of other people’s hard earned success because they’re too idle and feckless to make something of themselves.

whatever the context, this needs to be retracted as it’s deeply offensive.

Its an absolute disgrace that this shower of bastards have chosen the most vulnerable in society, and set out to demonise them as layabouts and scroungers, before cutting their benefits to the bone. The effects that this is having on people least able to cope should shame anyone with a shred of humanity. But then that the rub with these inhumane bastards isn’t it? Tories? I ****ing shit ’em!!!

    Child 1 – fine

Child 2 – tantrums, “no” to everything, hits/bites, refuses to do anything. If he times it correctly, eg: getting other child to school or trying to get back to car before getting a ticket, it can be quite testing. We got a tazer off eBay and that seems to have done the trick.

I’ve removed replaced the memory, as suggested.

Just to clarify..the bleeping noise just prior to failure doesn’t sound like a diagnostic code emitted from a sound card, the best way I can describe it is a bit like a fax machine…only happens for a few seconds deep inside the machine, then locks up.

So not sure if problem is fixed yet cos like I say, it runs fine for an hour or so before going tits up.

    I will report back.

Appreciate the help chaps…feedback as follows:

CPU and power supply fans both spin under own power when pc is on, quiet as well.

How about the processor heatsink is loose – lift off, check there’s some of that jizz still there and replace nice and snugly

Now thats an interesting one. In order to clean out the big CPU fan I had to remove a plastic shroud that goes around the heat sink and the two items came away together, exposing the CPU chip covered in a thin layer of ‘gunk’. Once all dust cleaned out, I put it all back together and the heat sink is firmly in place…but could it require some more of said gunk to make sure heat is tranferred from CPU, if so what is it and where from?
