I used to sell them back in the day – they needed the top-swing style mechs (where the band is below the cage rather than above).

In your pic where the chain is fouling the cage on the M785 mech (the correct type), isn’t that only an issue when you’re in 26/11 and the bike is unsagged? Should be fine in use when you have plenty sag, and you won’t be in that gear combo anyway?

Yeah I think so, my first full-sus so gonna give it a go with this anyway. Shifting with this mech is clunky, but I think thats due to it being worn than anything else.

Can you lower the original front mech frame clamp? That would then leave a gap between chain and mech…

It’s as low as it can go, but shifting is still not great. Strange really as its the same groups as the chains, but seems to be struggling with the 26038 difference.

Hmm, thanks for all the replies, I think this needs some thought

Looking at the newer options, they’re either direct mount or 11 speed.

Yeah I understand, but I live in Sierra de Nieves so thinking the area range is needed. It’s a second hand frame and came with the 785 on it, but a smaller chain rings rings on the front.

Would the M8000s be ok the 38-26 range?

This is the issue with the 785 mech.

It only happens in the front inner ring and higher gears, but I thought the other mech would resolve it.

Cable routing isn’t an problem though. Anyone with another option?

This on is M786, it had an M785 on which had the cable fix point the other side so no issues there, but the chain ran along the bottom of the mech in certain gear combinations. The crankset is M785 38-26, and there is a 34/11 on the back, puzzled…

I wondered how long it would take someone to suggest that :)

Not wanting to go 1x yet as I’ve only just got the bike nearly ready to ride and the wheel set is 10sp.

I’m not gonna tell you what you should get as it’s often personal preference, so in true STW fashion, this is what I have…

Tentipi Zircon 7 Tent, one pole, can stand up easily and good shape for wind difflection.

SnugPak 3-4 Season synthetic sleeping bags.

ExPed Synmat – Inflateable mats, but nice and thick at 75mm with self-contained pump.

    SnugPak – Travel pillows, a must…

Primus ETA Spider stove set – Good for lightweight travel and family use.

Tatonka Stainless Steel kettle pan set – 1/2.5/4 litres pans with lids usable as frying pans.

GSI Stainless Steel Kettle & Coffee Percolator

Enameled metal cups, plates and bowls for that authentic camping look :)

Lifeventure Stainless Steel cutlery sets – robust and well made, although for lightweight camping a titanium Spork is good

Mora Bushcraft Survival knife for general use, Light My Fire FireKnife for cooking uses

Gransfors Bruks Wildlife Hatchet and Outdoors Axe

Various lights/lanterns from Petzl and Alpkit

UCO Stormproof Torch (Lighter) and bottle opener

MSR TrailShot Water Purifier, mainly for solo use…

There is loads more but I’m bored. Also useful are games like chess, scrabble etc…

    Not for me it isn’t

Whatever your view, or indeed linked articles position, I certainly am more kinaesthetic and visual than I am auditory. VAK is a moot point and like Growth Mindset there will always be developments and differing views in teaching styles.

My point however was that homework is not a bad thing in itself, but how often is it that homework consists of hastily printed worksheets from the internet, completed by frustrated parents and marked by teachers over a bottle of wine or two ;)

    learning styles is bunk

Not for me it isn’t, and I’m aware of the reality of class sizes which is why I said resources aside…

Indeed, but my point is that an educator should know their students, and have the skills to be able to differentiate the curriculum to enable these to learn according to their individual styles. A large part of assessments either formal or informal (including homework) is for the benefit for the school rather than the student, to enable them to structure classes etc. Resources aside, a student led approach provide greater understanding of individual talents and how best to educate the staple subjects, yet still allow opportunity for self exploration and learning.

Aside from the very real issue of bullying, school age and achievement at this age are very much an arbitrary thing. A happy child will learn. Trying to standardise this through regimented systems will surely bring results, but these are likely to be the same as those before and allow little room for exploration and innovation. Homework in my view is not wrong per se, however we have supposed to have moved beyond education with assessments, yet I still see many educators defaulting to the chalk and talk style of teaching without truly endeavouring to inspire their students to learn for themselves.

I’m down the road in Marbella but the terrain is similar in the mountains along the coast. I have Scarpa SLs from years ago but trail running shoes or walking shoes are my preferred choice now as the lightness and breath-ability is better in the heat.

Why not aquire a number of bushes in containers and arrange them in a linier fashion creating the illusion of a hedge with the advantage of being able to regroup into less hedgy formations as required…

Sorry, I’ve no personal experience of the schools, but the beach and conditions are well suited to all abilities. There are many camping options also along the beach, with Playa de los Lances being the main break. The beach goes out in flat ledges and has a good offshore breeze picking up in the afternoon. Swell is rarely huge but clean and consistent.

It’s funny how some people are getting up tight telling me how there’s no tension in the UK 🤪

    palmer77

I’ve been on STW for many years and use it multiple times a day, but don’t always get involved with some threads, more an observer of sorts I guess…

Yes there are issues in Spain for sure, not least the ‘tension’ in Catalonia, however where I am in the south, and many of the people’s views from other areas of Spain I meet tends to be one of indifference to the matter.

My point was, there seems to be a more obvious level of tension arising in peoples lives in seemingly simple areas and somewhat trivial aspects, albeit subjective of course, eso es todo…

I still work and pay tax in the UK so am not being entirely alloof. I guess it’s all the road/school rage threads that highlighted it, just me perhaps?

Using my Park Tool torque wrench, achieving 40Nm was just a small (approx 1/8th turn) up from hand tight. It certainly didn’t feel excessive.

    palmer77

Thanks everyone :) I went for 40Nm, and used anti-sieze. Vaults don’t have a spanner face, just a 5mm hex. Incidentally, whats the protocol for fitting chains for a full suspension over a HT, is it still chain around big big plus two links?

No problem, there has also recently been a grey area concerning the BIOS required for certain systems to run the various ROMS/ISO/CUE&BIN files etc. A lot of the developers have now grouped together their efforts at Hakchi Resources, however, this has raised their respective profiles and subsequently a lot of the newer HMODS no longer have the BIOS built in. There is a new BIOS installer HMOD available, but you need to locate the BIOS yourself (as with ROMS) as sharing is illegal. According to the developers this is easy to locate online, but is also very easy to extract if you have the HMODS already installed. For example, if you open an HMOD from 3-22-18 or before with 7 Zip, you can locate the BIOS in the ‘System’ folder. More information on this here:

Aaah, that makes a bit more sense now. It’s a shame as I love the Havoc bar sand stem, and the Haven seems only available in 750mm, where as I am after 800mm

I would recommend using hakchi2_CE_ 1.0.1 as the newer version still has some bugs when uploading HMODS (the mods that allow you to play different consoles etc). To do this you have to enter development (FEL) mode when the system is plugged into your computer, by holding down reset when turning the system on. I would suggest only adding multiple batches of the smaller ones, and the larger ones MAME etc one by one, otherwise the system struggles. MAME2003 will work for many of the games, but you may need to add FBA2012/16. You will need to change the command line as well, but take a look at the guides online.

    Kyland K

    Patton Plays

EDIT: I forgot to say, you can use the Wii Classic or Pro controllers with the system as they have the same plug, have analogue controls and work great :)

If you get an OTG to run USB-HOST you can also plug in USB controllers/keyboards/mouse etc..

Its basic, but functional. The instructions are fairly easy, and once you have flashed a custom kernel you can either add games to the internal memory (230Mb) or use a USB stick with an On The Go through adapter. I’m using a 256Gb Sandisc with mine and have about 550 games on it. There loads of guides on YouTube, with Kyland K and Patten Plays the most helpful IMHO. If you decide to do it and are not happy with it it’s very easy to return it to standard configuration, but it’s extremely addictive getting retro games to work. The SNES mini form factor, controls and GUI are also very well thought out.

You can have all you wish for and more on the SNES mini, I currently have it running Game Boy/Color/Advance, Game Gear, Master System, Mega Drive/CD/32X, Neo Geo/Pocket, PC Engine/Duo-R, PlayStation plus all MAME arcade games…
