That was my concern really, I’ve seen quite a few XTR pedals come off the spindles, and it doesn’t look fun.
But XTs are so.heavy! But I suppose XTR isn’t really any lighter.

With that in mind, anyone tried Ritchey pedals?

At the Cornwall national XC round a few weeks ago.

First my chain dropped off on the 2nd lap when I was sitting in 6th, and a few people that I knew I could beat came past. So I got all annoyed and pushed too hard on the descent, and put a hole in my rear tyre. So I blasted some gas in it, which got me around to the tech area, where I changed the wheel. My other wheels had heavier, tougher tyres on, so I thought I’d be alright from then on.
But I punctured again, in the same sodding place, going through a bit of water with some submerged rocks. I decided to put a tube in that time, as I only had one gas canister left. The time that this took threw any hope of a good result out of the window, but at least I’d be able to finish the race.
Nope. I hadn’t managed to get enough pressure in the tube, and pinch flatted the bastard. So I kind of gave up there, and ran back to the finish, coming in second last.

I just don’t think that anyone needs more than one chainring on the front (except for some mad extreme marathon fatbike event in the Himalayas or some shit) with the wide range cassettes that are available now. So that point that people might need a granny ring isn’t really valid anymore (in my opinion).

Out of interest, where was the course? :-)

    mr nick craig.

Who said something along the lines of Well if you werent so obsesed with weight over functionality you would have just used your granny ring.

And Nick is now running 1×11. Funny that…

I rode these (well, the skills loop) a few weeks ago when me and a few others went down to do some filming for the press release (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n4teiqn6Fuc).
For the terrain they’ve got, it’s pretty good, although the skills loop is all a bit crammed in, and there was a drop that none of us tried – 2 large(ish) drops immediately followed by the boundary fence! I think it was a different set of people who built the trails to who put the posts and fences in!
Looks promising, and I’ll be down once it opens to have a go on the rest of it.

I was as well! My first national in junior, and it didn’t go too badly, apart from the terrible start, dropped chain, forgetting to drink, and crash on the start straight while eating a gel. Still, got 8th though, and the legs felt good, so I’ll be on the front row in Cornwall – somewhat essential if the start is anything like last year.
Getting up for college today was harder than the actual race – I’m ruined!
