I want a bare rough aluminium finish

Then just strip the frame and leave it bare. It will develop a thin layer of oxidisation which will protect it. That is what Intense do with their bare frames I believe.
To strip it your could do it yourself with a chemical stripper or get it done professionally.

I have tried quite a few different elbow pads for my 4 year old son and the best ones by far are the Fox PeeWee ones (supposed to be for motocross I think).

I’d be surprised if there wasn’t some work around in a big city like that.
Best thing to do is brush up the CV and get it to a few agents quick – they’ll soon sniff out interviews for you if there’s anything about.
    Good luck.

the deceased was the nurse on reception, not the one who gave out confidential information.

Surely it’s the one on reception who was responsible though anyway? The nurse who gave out the details would have assumed that reception had ensured the call was authentic.

I wouldn’t have thought it would make a noticeable difference to rear end stiffness would it?

the fugly dropouts seem to be doing their job

Fair enough Mike – function over fashion is the way it should be.

While we are asking questions I have another: is there a functional reason why the seat stays join the seat tube above the top tube junction rather than in line with it? Or is it just a visual thing? Seems like quite a few bikes seem to have that style these days.

Still the nicest dropouts in the bizzniss

I guess it’s a marmite thing… personally the only reason I wouldn’t buy a PA is the dropouts are so fugly…

Apparently the film was originally planned by Mann to be over 3 hours long, but the studio released their own 2 hour hatchet job which pretty much makes no sense at all.
There has been talk of a directors cut for a long time but it has not happened yet… fingers crossed it will as it would be a great film if it made sense!

Is this the most boring thread ever?

It is a little repetitive I’ll give you that… 🙂

The results are interesting though. I was mildly surprised by just how much Shimano are dominating the STW crank scene. And also that the split between 1/2/3 chainrings seems to be so even.

    Thanks again all.

Thanks very much for the great response everyone.

Here is a summary of the info so far:

This is great info – thanks all.
I will summarise results so far when we get to two pages of posts…

No, cos it doesn’t do what I’m looking for. I want a tensioner that will take up the slack on a full suspension SS bike, AND applies constant force through its stroke.

Is it possible for a tensioner which uses a coiled spring to apply a constant force throughout it’s stroke? I’m not sure it is, and I can’t think of how else a BB mounted tensioner could work.

Shimano SLX with massively filed down chainring tabs to fit my old e*thirteen device

Why did you have to file them? Was it because the bashring was too chunky around the chainring bolt area?

If you can come up with a BB-mounted spring-loaded chain-device that applies a constant force through its movement I’ll have one.

Not what I am working on, but have you tried the Yess ETR-B ? I had one and thought it was great.

I am Packer and I’m doing research for myself. Don’t work for a bike company or anything like that.

    why?

I’m toying with a prototype chain device and want to test it with different cranks. I’m thinking I will test it on the 3 or 4 most popular and see if I run into any compatibility problems. Have not had any luck finding sales figures for cranks though so thought I would just ask people.
Thanks for the replies so far – keep them coming!

Order a load of spares from CRC, then return the ones you don’t use when you get back.

    Done.
I think this is a great idea by the way.
Who is doing your development? I doubt a graphic design student would have the required skills to do this.
If your graphic designer lets you down or gets out of his depth then drop me a line – I am a software user interface designer and would be interested in working on a project like this.

Be wary of the Anglian Windows conmen salesmen.

Same goes for Crystal (the people who operate in Homebase and places like that).

a good fitter will do a good job a bad fitter will do a bad job

This is definitely true – you need a good fitter.
However there is definitely a wide range of qualities of upvc windows available from different manufacturers/suppliers, some of which are excellent and others which are terrible.
As with most things you get what you pay for.

All the recent 10% discounts are only when you spend over £100, which is a pretty poor offer really.

Does that include “line rental” or are you still paying BT for that as well?
If it includes it then I’d say it’s a pretty good price.

Michel Roux Jr says the same thing about eating at La Gavroche, what’s your point caller?

Surely the Michel Roux Jr quote reinforces the fact that this has nothing to do with snobbery towards McD?
Put simply, some foods are more unhealthy than others and as such should be eaten less often.
Some unhealthy foods are cheap and some are expensive but that is not really relevant.

I don’t think that saying McD has little nutritional value is “snobbery”.
I’m no expert but it seems like common knowledge to me that processed fast-foods like McD contain less “goodness” than fresh foods. What do I mean by “goodness”? I don’t know really but I guess vitamins, minerals, and fibre spring to mind.
The fact that people (including McD themselves) recommend eating it as only part of your diet would also seem to support that.

I personally eat McD once or twice a month on average and so do my young children. I don’t think it’s any worse than any other fast food.

Regardless of the red marks and calories, I would imagine your lunch actually has some nutritional value. I doubt the big mac meal does.

You can pick up the XX1 groupset for under £900 from the German mail order websites now. Not too bad at that price, although as others have said I would live in fear of smashing the rear mech!

If you are going to be riding it mainly at the BMX track I would say 24″ is your best bet.

There are lots of options at that price point, or you could get a very nice spec one if you spent that on a second hand bike.

    Check these out:
