If the ticket has been issued by a private enforcement company, how could they possibly enforce it?
They can’t find out who you are and where you live from your number plate, surely?

I think the Charge and the Genesis are the only complete MTBs which are available with the Alfine hubs. Both are available in 11-speed for 2011.

SO, back on topic, has anyone got any pictures of this post in the wild? I would like to see them too.

What I don’t understand is why frame numbers of new bikes are not added to the Immobilise website (or some other centralised database) at the point of sale – i.e. by the shops that sell them.

Surely that would solve the problem of police not being able to trace stolen bikes once and for all?

That’s not such a good idea on steel frames though, where water getting in is more of an issue.

If you ordered from Wiggle fairly early on then I guess that’s a good indicator that they haven’t received any yet at all.
And I suppose if Wiggle don’t have any then it’s unlikely that anyone else does either.
Looks like we’re all waiting until next year for them then… 🙁

Yeah, I was following that thread. Last post was two weeks ago though and I think the initial shipment may have arrived since then, but if so I have yet to determine which shops they went to.

BB mounted tensioners are a great alternative:

You really think Chris Kovarik and Matti Lehikoinen will be happy to go from riding Intense to riding Nuke Proof?
Regardless of how good the bikes are, they have their CVs to think of and Intense are a very big name to lose.

I think there’s a very good chance they will both leave the team. We’ll see soon I guess.

Personally I hope the team stays as it is as I’d like to see Nuke Proof do well.

I think it is a “brave” move as it could well prompt their top riders to switch teams (perhaps to a new Intense factory team?), leaving Team CRC with pretty much nothing except a good manager.

The Niner EBB is another alternative design to consider:

Think it’s only for 68mm shells though.

Yeah, they are not cheap. Although remember it does include the bottom bracket. If a Shimano HT2 BB costs you £40 and a chain tensioner costs £20 then you are already over half way to the cost of it.

Lots of people are doing this already with no problems.
Quite a few threads about it on here and also over on mtbr.com

If you don’t want to run a chain tensioner take a look at these:

what do you mean by broken?

V8_shin_print – great work with that bracket! You should make another.

Are they referring to the frame being an alu/carbon hybrid? As they also do/did that frame in all alu and all carbon too I think.

The Croix De Fer will be available as a frame and fork only option in a couple of weekes. Frame is £279.99 and fork is £59.99

Is this definitely true? The new Genesis website just went live but there is no mention of it on there. Hope so!

Don’t think there is anything out there other than things like the one you’ve pictured. I use a Crud Guard which is the same basic design as that and does what it’s supposed too, but I’ve always thought it was bigger and flimsier than I would like it to be…

Sand in an innertube or something similar tied round the hub?

Sounds like a good idea to me – let us know if you try it.

Note that the shifter on the 11-speed Alfine will work in the other direction to the current 8-speed one. i.e. it will work the “right” way round.

You should reconsider the TransWales – it’s a great event.

If it was a similar price and weight to a Rohloff I would be interested, providing I could also buy a frame for it that I liked at a reasonable price.

Weight is not such an issue when it’s at the centre of the bike and set low in the frame.
The rear wheel will be nice and light and that counts for a lot.

I think this is thefirst bike to feature it:

Apparently the new skinny duster frames are significantly more pricey than the previous ones. Frame retail price was £330 before but I think the new ones are going to be closer to £500 once they are available separately.
Hence the completes have gone up too.

Great looking bike though – if I was looking for a new bike this would be on my short-list.

I’ve seen a few brand new ones go for around £300 on eBay.

Wiggle have updated their status on the Alfine 11 hub. It’s no longer saying “late september”. It’s now saying “mid october” for some models and “2-7 days” for others.

I just spoke to a shop about the Alfine 11, and they said they were originally expecting to receive them on 20th September but they have since spoken to Madison who told them it’s been put back by 3 weeks…

Another one that won’t be available in 27.2mm … 🙁

    packer

    1) Get a new saddle
    2) Remove frame graphics
    3) Spray the rear rims braking surface black

    Job done.

Wiggle is still saying late September…

I read on another forum that some shops in Australia now have them in stock so they can’t be far away.

Brant – can you tell us if yours is likely to be available in 27.2 or will it just be the larger sizes?

I've done it, it's actually not that difficult to cut if you use a brand new scalpel. I think you'd struggle with anything less though.

I am sure Versa or someone else will do a drop bar shifter for it later this year if you can hang on.
You're never going to get an Alfine 11 bike for under a grand I'm afraid, the hub is too pricey for that.
I would like to see a close-ratio version too, would be great for commuting even if it was just 8-speed.

Regarding complete bikes with the Alfine 11 on, the only ones I have hard about so far are the Charge Duster 11, Charge Mixer 11, and Genesis iOiD 11

    packer

"There is virtually no difference in overall weight (less than 100g from memory), between a duster 8 and equivalent priced duster with conventional gearing."

and since the Alfine 11 is around 100g lighter than the Alfine 8 that should mean there is no weight difference at all.

Ah – thanks! What have I won?? 🙂
