I am currently lusting after one of these:
    http://www.gtbicycles.com/2013/bikes/bmx/26-inch/interceptor-26

Unfortunately not officially available in the UK though. Could mail order one from the US though.

You sure you wouldn’t consider a 24″ wheel? Lots of choice in those.

I think what you have described is pretty much the standard situation for those with a young family.
    It certainly is for me.
I just keep telling myself two things; the situation will improve as the kids get older, and life isn’t about what I want any more it’s about the kids.

Yeah I think I will test it on a small area first.
If it doesn’t go well I will get the pros in (or live with the dirt).
    Thanks for all the replies.

Yes the yellow bricks do seem quite fragile. Perhaps I am better off with a strong detergent rather than anything acid based…?

    Thanks for the replies.
Don’t want to use a pressure washer or wire brush as I am concerned about damaging the bricks and mortar (house probably needs to be re-pointed really but that’s another story).
Hence I was thinking of using brick acid or similar and a soft brush and rinsing off with a watering can.
I suppose I should just give it a go and see if it works.
Thanks for the safety tip though – will be sure to get suited up!

If the bike is locked up with two decent D-locks then it’s unlikely to get nicked.

I have very narrow feet too and I’ve tried lots of different boots over the years… best fit for narrow feet I’ve found by far are Northwave boots.
I’ve had a couple of pairs now and I love them, would not buy another brand.
Also they are not bulky so I have no problem using a standard width board with my size 11 feet.

I am short sighted so I can manage without glasses at lunch or when taking a break. If I wasn’t I guess I would take my regular glasses in a pocket though.

I tried a few different over-the-glasses types but found that the reality is it’s bloody annoying wearing goggles over glasses full stop.
In the end I went for some goggles with clip-in prescription inserts.
There are a few on the market but I found the Adidas ones to be the best looking and functioning.
I bought the Adidas goggles second hand on eBay for £30 (think that are around £70 new), then paid £35 for the prescription insert and £40 to have lenses put in it. So all in I spent approx £100.
I am extremely happy with them – would not use anything else now.

End result looks great – well done.

I would like to sand the floorboards in one of my bedrooms. The thing is the boards each have a pretty big gap between them, approx 2-5mm between each board. What should I do about that?
The gaps are too big for filler.
I have heard of people using wood strips to fill big gaps, but that seems a lot of work when it has to be done every board.
Seems like I could lift all the boards completely, relay them and probably fit in another whole board. Again lots of work though.
    Any advice?

I think it will work fine. If you are using a shimano hollowtech BB or similar then there is space between that and the bb shell for the hose, and if you route it behind the axle then it can exit the shell at a nice shallow angle towards the front (if the hole is drilled at that angle).

I might alternatively drill the hole in the front of the seat tube about an inch or two from the bottom if it was a steel frame, but probably wouldn’t risk that in aluminium.

Don’t even think about starting a family until her drink problem is well and truly behind her.
Having kids is majorly stressful and could very well make her problem worse.

Would love it if you would share your designs when they are ready, if you want to.
So, will you be inviting Kevin round before you get started too? 🙂

My wife makes stuff and sells it through Not On The Highstreet (www.noths.com)
I wouldn’t recommend it as a place to sell, mainly because it’s way too crowded with products but also their entry fees are extremely high.

Here are the things I am looking forward to in IOS6:
    – Turn by turn navigation
    – Vector maps
    – Maps flyover view (although not sure how much of UK is covered)
    – Shared photo streams
    – Decline calls with message
    – iCloud stored browser tabs
    – Offline web page reading
    – Full screen web pages

Ransos – with that logic I think I’m gonna go for some 20 inch wheels… 🙂

I think Schwalbe are already doing their entire range in 650b aren’t they?

Assuming the balance bike has 12 inch wheels (most do) then the easiest transition is to a 12 inch wheel pedal bike.
The only problem with this approach is they will soon be too big for the 12 inch wheel bike and will need to go up to 14 or 16 inch wheels.
Not a problem if you are prepared to buy second hand bikes and then sell them on as you can usually do this at little or no cost.
I can recommend the Specialized Hotrock 12 inch (and the 16 inch after that).

Testing the pressure releases air from the tyre. That could well account for most of your 1psi loss.
