Yesterday my boss told me he couldn’t watch the Paralympics because it makes him feel “weird” and “awkward”. Cretin.

Co-op (Smile) for 10+ years. No complaints. They have always been fair and reasonable when problems have arisen. …and i’m not easily pleased!

I’ve had one 2 years. It’s saved my bacon many times whilst out on the trails & enduro-ing so i shouldn’t speak ill of it but…it took me forever to get a tolerable cockpit set-up. It’s very much a ‘sit on’ bike and i prefer to ‘sit in’. I did demo the bike before buying but obviously not for long enough to get a proper feel.

Only significant problem i’ve had was bashing the grease nipples on the lower linkage (under BB), but SC replaced the whole link with no quibbles.

Wife dragged me to see it yesterday. Can’t tolerate Christian Bale for a second. On the upside – cinema very comfy so slept through most of it. :)

I reckon you’ll always have a challenge finding something that’s right on AND off road. I ride 32:16 off road and i find that perfect. I took up SSing last year and bought a few alternative rear cogs but have never once considered moving away from 32:16 for off road. Very little to lose from trialling a 15 or 14 on the back but i suspect you may find those challenging off road. I can dig out my surplus unused cogs and check the sizes if you’re interested in having them off me at cost?

Riding in Phoenix Knights with chiefgrooveguru and very likely running up the hills carrying the singlespeed.

Rode Stanmer for an hour or so last night. Flippin awful conditions. Deep puddles with lords knows how much mud underneath the water. There were even puddles on the side that usually dries quick. Great fun if i’m honest..but guilty pleasure because it just felt like vandalism : /

2 x slices of fresh thick white bread, both liberally covered in mayonnaise
    plenty of honey roast ham
    1 x bag of Skips

Combine for the ultimate crisp sandwich.

Probably my all time favourite snack. :D

@P7rich: Well I spend half my commute to work balancing on kerbs and sprinting and hopping and the other half wheelieing, and half the commute home manualling and the other half going over jumps with the odd diversion to some more jumps, so it seems the ideal low maintenance singlespeed commuter! And apparently getting good on a 20 makes you much better on a 26. Plus I’d rather take a £200 bike to the shops than a £2000 one..

Sounds perfectly reasonable! Not convinced you need a strategy for MTB improvement though, you’re pretty handy already. :)

Thermostat? My thermostat went kaput, but the opposite happened – it would not stop heating. Was dead easy to repair by using parts from eBay (i’m not technical). Guess a faulty thermostat could stop it heating properly as well?

Can’t believe we’ve not had this one yet:

I have ridden Fox for years and built a bike with QR SID RLTs last year. Love ’em. Fit and forget. I regularly fiddle with my 150mm Fox’s as they are never quite ‘right’. The thought of tweaking the SIDs has never crossed my mind. Rode the same stuff as the Fox’s and don’t even notice the loss of travel on the way down. Would recommend.

i love sb8s and agree with Northwind ref the surprising grip on muddy roots. Only downside i’ve experienced is they puncture a lot – maybe that’s normal with such a shallow tread?

No need. I REMOVE as much branding as i can from my bikes. 2 out of 3 are completely blank except the odd bit of component branding.

Watch out for compound. Some premium/sports tyres = softer compound = more grip = quicker wear rate.

Read the site. Stage 2 null and void.

Guru – Stage 2 explanation from the site:

“Full race report to follow tomorrow but read this first.

Sorry, stage two has not been counted although we will publish them in a couple of day’s time just so you can compare. The Army lads did a great job but unfortunately did not manage to control you well enough to place you in a start position after you had dabbed. Lack of time to train them to blame so not their fault and also it does not alter the standings as the leaders all went clear. The clears and one or two dab people will be correct but the maximum penalty people will not be.

The teams have been placed in order of how they faired on the day but for the ones which have no series points next to them they have either had too many riders changed from the original team or started with only three riders so their placing’s do not go forward to the series points which is a shame but it is all about team work and team commitment at the end of the day.

So for the series points the correct placing’s are as follows along with the scores from the special test they had to undertake which has been deducted from their final score already. I have to say there were some exceptional teams and individuals who took control of the task so special mention goes to both Sandhurst teams and to Brighton MTB!

1st Fetish Bike Company 10 sec special test bonus

2nd Sketchy Scorchers 20 sec special test bonus

3rd Sketchy B 20 sec special test bonus

4th Sandhurst A 20 sec special test bonus

5th Sandhurst B 20 sec special test bonus

6th Brighton MTB 20 sec special test bonus

7th 26 Engineers Regiment 10 sec special test bonus

MBR mag 10sec special test bonus

Stoned fish 10 sec special test bonus

Sledgehammer 10 sec special test bonus

Sussex MTB 10 sec special test bonus”

There’s some Avon product – ‘Skin So Soft’ i believe – the forces use. It’s reputed to be the best deterrent you can get. Job done.

I reckon it’s either faulty or just a bit rubbish. Ho-hum. I may contact Garmin to get their take in my experience…

Thanks druid. I tried those settings and, when setting it to ‘pause when i stop’ it kept pausing at just low speeds. “Custom Speed” just does the same but raises the threshold. It’s set to record/time all the time (Autopause off) so not sure those settings are relevant?

Had my SS Whippet for 6 months and on the whole I love it. Only downside is the creaking – it creaks from pretty much every frame/component interface…and has just developed a really loud new one at the seat post/tube junction.

People have recommended these to me.

PS. I have been running a Shimano press-fit in my Whippet for 6 months with very little fuss (if you ignore the creaking, which is suspect it caused by the frame cups. Smooth-as.).
