    Have a look here:

    http://www.rega.co.uk

Rega are turntable specialists and highly regarded. You can spend as much or a little as you want on a Rega. I own a P3 and it’s excellent. They look nice as well…which is nice.

Best thing to do if you have cash in your pocket is get down your local indy hi fi shop. It’s perfectly normal to spend ages in these places taking advice, listening to different pieces of kit, etc. If you tell us where you are someone might recommend somewhere.

I can vouch for Porthmadog. I have been there hundreds of times over many years and have NEVER experienced even a hint of anti-English attitude there….or anywhere else in Wales for that matter. Bit bemused by all the above.

I’m keen to get some insight on this. CYB, Marin, etc could be an alternative if the Antur Stioniog uplift is cancelled. Also keen to know about conditions at Nany Yr Arian…

I’ve been in touch with them. Very swift and helpful response saying they are appraising the situation and will be in touch. Can’t say fairer than that.

ha ha! what a chore! I loved it.

3 & 4 got a bit silly and by the time i got to them (132nd rider) they looked like someone had been round with a six foot wide rotavator…i kid you not! Technique to get through these was via a vaguely controlled fall down the hillside whilst trying to hang onto your bike.

Carving down stage 5 ski-style was a blast and all in all i’m chuffed i made the effort after doing a couple last year. Massive respect to all the volunteers for making (most of it) happen and to Carlos for making it happen at all. So she do we get live timing Carlos?

See you all again at FOD. :D

I have just consigned myself to the ranks of dropper post malfunction victims.

I’ve had the post in pieces and have ascertained the kevlar thread is still fixed fine and everything between the lever and the little nipple on the bottom (under the end cap) is all operating correctly so fault is somewhere in the proper internals. LBS where i bought it have been consulted and it’s going back next week for repair or replacement. Majorly peeved today as racing is the main reason i bought it. Especially as i’ve only ridden it 5-6 times. Slowly coming to terms.

Now where did I put the Thomson it replaced…?

Removed pressure and still won’t compress. I suspect the inner cable has slipped inside the post as the lever was a bit ‘sticky’ this morning…but can’t for the life of me get the end cap off the post to check. Any tips how to do this without a strap wrench??

Take your time and be prepared to walk away for at least 30 min’s if you get near to either blood, sweat or tears.

I’ve been running the plastic Shimano on my Whippet for about 18 months. All was good (except lots of creaking in the early days which eventually settled down) until recently when a few mm of play quickly developed in the cranks. Seems the bearing housing on the drive side has degraded somewhat – not surprising as its been taking single speed abuse all its life.

Anyhoo – yesterday i replaced it with a lovely alloy KCNC one same as this:

Going out for a few hours for first time today and will report back…

All fine. 17 (sunny) miles later and nothing adverse to report. Not even a squeak from it and felt smooth-as. Let’s see if it has staying power.

PS. I actually liked the Shimano one and it felt like it was almost ‘not there’ – which i reckon is high praise for a BB. Shame it made such a frustrating racket in the early days and had a removal problem with its drive-side bearing mating with the crank axle, forcing me to spend ages drifting it off.

Incredible the ‘lift’ they manage, seem to stay airborne forever. Sure it’s loads more the the last batch of wingsuit nutters i saw. Presumably the suits are getting better technically?

Nice choice. My Whippet (carbon Inbred) is a wonderful SS bike. Enjoy.

(PS. No plans to sacrifice my 100mm SIDs (or wrists) for rigid forks)

It’s very unlikely that you’ll have the correct size cable installed for a 10.5kW shower.
The current require to operate the shower is 45.7 amps. You will DEFINITELY need a 39mA RCD protected 10mm supply cable for the shower.
A shower is in a special location and as such must be installed, tested and certified by a suitably qualified electrician.

Thanks Jerry. Yep, first job on the list (assuming there’s some benefit in more kWs) is to get an electrician round.

I went from a 7.2 or so to an 8.4 IIRC – not a life changing difference but it went from hot & a bit piddly to hot and reasonable on cold days – definitely worth it

    Interesting. Thanks.

I think the heat exchanger is blocked up and needs descaling.

unlikely, it was new a couple of months ago (like for like replacement when the old one went kaput)

Its a gainsborough my parents have that i think is garbage.

My mira is like night and day compared to theirs despite being lower power.

Thanks. Could your parents have lower mains pressure though?

Makes perfect sense ref worse in winter but ours is poor all year round :|

Excellent. Thanks. Yes, pressure is good, i.e. massive when cold. Flow rate is indeed what i’m referring to. Any idea if same rating will give better flow across diff manufacturers? Current 8.5kw model is a Gainsborough and after quick bit of googling their showers seem quite cheap. Worth considering a diff manufacturer to increase the 10% estimate?

No crimping or other issues, deffo just a rubbish shower. Anyone know how much diff changing to a 10.5 would make?

Not in the least bit surprised. I buy shedloads of music but rarely anything from HMV, despite visiting regularly. Generally too expensive and very narrow range.

Re fit for a proper FF (not about the Urge-type ones)….a bit of internet research suggests what might seem a bit too tight (at first) is probably about right. There shouldn’t be any space to move. After a ride or two the padding will mould a bit and it won’t feel so tight.

I haven’t read all this but it might be helpful…?

I was in the same position as you a month ago. I went for this from CRC (Bell Drop):

…after using the manufacturers size guide as help and reading a few reviews. Maybe I was lucky but it fitted like a glove and rode my first Uplift in it last weekend. All good.
