These are good value from CTBM

Just bought a set. Arrived next day. Look nice. Not sure how they compare to my stock CdF Shimano anchors, but i reckon they’re circa half the weight!

    How many people ?

    Just me.

Ooh. Hadn’t thought about keeping a back seat. Could be handy.

Did 20 miles round Surrey Hills since replacing the bushes at the back with the ones CRC sent me. No creaks. Yet. But i have also now greased every pivot in the process of chasing the creak. Hopefully it’s sorted but lets wait and see.

@svalgis. You’l love it. I replaced a Santa Cruz with my TR and it’s 10x better. Best bike i’ve owned. Mine did not creak out of the box. Took at least 100 miles to develop the worst creak.

Ah, that makes sense. I had my 2013 TR in pieces today, to grease the pivots and try to sort the creaking. In the pivot just above the BB there are 2 thick (plastic i think?) washers either side of the frame/seattube. They sit between the frame and bearings set in the end of the chain stay, in a recess. I thought it was odd they’re above half the size of the recess they sit in.

Guess they’ll just send out the correct size washers. Easy job to fit. Hope that sorts it, the creaking/cracking noise is getting louder on mine each ride.

Ignore that. CRC have told me NP don’t recognise any issues with the pivot just above the BB. They have sent me the bush kit linked above. Fitted it today (it’s for the pivots at the back, near the dropouts, where the seat stays meet the chain stays) and was pretty straightforward. Looked pretty much identical to the stuff i took out. Maybe the thickness on the top hats were a little big different?? Can’t be sure.

I have now greased every pivot too. Back out on it tomorrow. Fingers crossed. Effin fantastic bike. Just wish it would quieten down!

Just hope CRC can sort the issue with my very noisy shock too!

9sp + NW ring here too. Hope Retainer 32T, 11-32 cassette and XT Shadow (non clutch) mech. One drop in 140 miles, and that was in a relatively innocuous situation. Stayed put in much worse. Chain pretty tight too, but still some spring left in mech when on biggest cog.

Cheers Dean. Sounds like a remedy might be straightforward. Helpful to know in case CRC fanny about.

MY 2013 TR creaks too. Happens when i plonk down on the saddle, compressing the suspension quickly. Need to grease and see if that helps, but not tried it yet.

I’ve owned several straight six petrols and they’ve all been faultless. Do 200k+ easily if you look after them.

Just bought a twin turbo straight six 335i Touring and love it. :D

I have just used CRCCQQ8FSZQ. Cheers Antares. :)

BTW – Seems you can now use discount codes AND gift vouchers in the same transactional CRC. Never been able to before.

Had a 4 slice Dualit for 10+ years and still operates like its brand new. Cant remember what it cost bit i guess it was less than 10 years of cheap toasters. Also makes excellent toast so you dont need to suffer shi+ toast for 10 years! :)

Very good windchill protection. I use mine on the moped in all weathers and they’re great…and i get cold v easily. I use liners when its sub zero.

I had a scoot around the Nikwax site and there was zilch reference to restoring Windstopper properties, just waterproofing.

Love my CdF. Never even owned a road bike before, but had this since spring 2013 and it’s been excellent. I’m a mountain biker but haven’t been on the trails for weeks. They’re readily ava everywhere of £750. There’s a nearly new example on ebay for £675: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Genesis-CdF-Cyclocross-Bike-/331104937277?pt=UK_Bikes_GL&hash=item4d1764653d

don’t dismiss it, the gravel bits just ferry you between the mahoosif rocky bits of the mountain that will be challenging for anyone. I’m not a downhiller but within a month of visiting AS i had bought a 200mm bouncer and am having a whale of a time.

NYA is excellent. Did it last year and was good. Not much of it as i recall though. If you’re in the area a few days you really can’t miss Antur Stiniog. Meets all your criteria. I also second Climachx, one of my favourite trails – watch out for the 90-left near the end!

P7rich – which contis did you have ?

The cross version of the Speed King tread.

PS. I also replaced the rear cassette with a 32 so i dont have to snap my knees on offroad climbs. Just had to add some links to the chain.

Is your chain too long? Happened to me before and shortening fixed it. Fact it’s happening on the smaller ring suggests it could be your problem?

I’d ditch the Conti’s. I bought a CdF in the spring and suffered them for ages before slashing one and replacing both with Smart Sams. Very happy with the SSs. Wish i’d done it sooner.

I got one for nowt after smashing my Feature. I’ve had it a few months but not really got on with it very well. Gives me headaches when it presses on my skull in the wrong places. Just ordered another Feature.
