The 455 and whippet are rather different in intended uses… What sort of riding do you do?

Trail/singletrack riding mostly, with all the usual small jumps, obstacles, etc that come with that territory. Also a smattering of general XC. I’m very aware the Whippet is designed as an XC frame but was hoping it could still handle the twisty stuff and i don’t needs loads of travel.

    Thanks guys.

Mr Diggy – presumably you’re referring to the 456?

Any happy/sad, short/tall Whippet owners out there?

phone ’em if you wanna be certain. I ordered my Hoops from them a while back. Ended up speaking to a bod’ in the warehouse who told me exactly what was what.

Look up KETTLING. You have a circulation issue, could be air, could be blockage, could be leak, etc. As the water is not circulating quickly enough the water is boiling in the boiler, i.e. not passing through quick enough, and that causes the noise.

Having the same issues myself. Have used Fernox as a temporary fix but will likely need to do something more radical if we’re lucky enough to make it through another winter.

Do you have buildings insurance? Had cracks at mine so called my insurer. They sent someone round in double quick time to inspect and diagnose. Didn’t cost me a penny.

Had a Truvativ on my P7 and was completely knackered in just under a year. Fitted Hope BB 18 months ago (inc adaptor) and still running smooth-as. My crankset is also Firex and I ride 30-40 miles a week.

I pulled something in my knee recently and bought a neoprene Vulkan support for about £20 for riding. Worked perfectly and you don’t even know it’s there. They do a few different types.

Glad you’ve fixed up Si. Can’t believe i’ve gone from worried sick it might rain torrents (again) to scrabbling around to find some glasses to keep the dust out my eyes!

    Bring it on. :D

You’ll see me bumbling around on a white P7, doing my best not to let down the side, eh Alex? Don’t forget to shout as you pass.

PS. I’ve seen her in the flesh and she’s a thing of beauty. Deffo grey though ;)

I bought the xc build. Have hammered it round Glentress, Innerleithen, Coed Y Brenin, Llandegla and Machynleth in last 6 months and it’s never even flinched. Only changes i have made from stock is a shorter stem and proper tyres ( mine came with Larsens on). Do it.

    V12s all the way.

Had mine for 10 years..briefly diverted to Blackspire Sub4s (rubbish ’cause no grip)…before going back to the old V12s.

Just bought some Vaults but can’t comment yet.

Stand your ground with CRC. They initially only offered to act as a gobetween and file a warranty claim with SDG. However, as the retailer they are obliged to take resppnsibility if their goods are unfit for purpose. Took me 2 emails and a few paragraphs ( + mentikn of the Sale of Goods Act) before they quickly about-turned and refunded.

Left my Nano on top of South Downs for a week in wet stormy winter. Didn’t turn it on, just put it in airing cupboard for two weeks. Still works today.

AVOID the layback version. Had mine for a month or so before the section on top of the post bent making it impossible to attach the saddle. Returned to CRC post haste. Unfit for purpose in my opinion.

Loads of great advice. Looks like you’re sorted. I’ll echo the tyre choice advice – pick a front tyre (dpesn’t have to match the back) with a pronounced knobbly shoulder. Paired with the right pressure it’ll be nigh-on impossible to wash out.

    Click. Buy. Wait. Fit. Ride.

Had them on both bikes for ages. Good diameter, no sore hands, good feel, etc, etc.

I run Flows with tubes. Just be careful with the pressures – you can’t have them too high or the tyres pop off. Check rim or Stans site for exact guidance.

I’m been running a Kenda Dred Tread on the front for a few weeks (sb8 on back). Lots of confidence boosting shoulder tread and have been mucho carving recently with no washouts. Low pressure though (20ish) but never had a pinch flat.

£30 looks like a good price and i’d echo the ‘good grip’ praise but…i’ve run some for a couple of hundred miles and one has just developed play in the axle and creaks in the wet. Haven’t had it off to investigate yet.
